I have or had a LRP Sphere Comp esc(2 race old). I shipped it back 8-9 weeks ago & have had multiple conversations with employees of LRP. (1) We have no esc's in stock to replace yours. (2) We have had a trade show in Germany & will have them next week.(3)We still have no stock but will send you a original sphere.(4) we shipped your Sphere-comp replacement 03-09-06 (5) We have shipped your Sphere comp replacement 03/09/06.(6) sorry I left out were moving & have them all packed up! Well it's now the 16th & I still have no ESC! If you have had the same poor customer support from LRP keep it in mind when you are looking to make another purchase. Tim Jeffers

My LRP COMP lasted about 5 or 6 months before it burned up. I'm waiting on a replacement too. I sent mine back about 5 weeks ago.
I'm all Novak now.

were they LRP'07's ?, and what motor were you using? Do you all check your temps coming off the track? these would be good things to know, thanks :drunk: ed

I was using a 13.5. Temps were always below 135F.
Mine was not the '07 COMP.

I don't know for sure, but I think they may have worked out the bugs with the '07.

Good Luck. Keep us posted. I am not confident with the LRP's.

13.5 all the way to 180 deg (motor temp)original LRP Sphere NO problems over a year old.

4300 all the way to 175 deg (motor temp)original LRP Sphere NO problems 6 months old.

Set on the modified setting hole shots very nice.

Must be something in the comp.

I have a GTB 6 months old looks and works like new havent used in two months I would trade for a 07 Sphere in perferct shape even has the bigboytoys machined alum top on it and a extra new on and off switch.

Jake,
Depending on when/what/if I get something back from LRP, maybe we can work something out. No clue on when my LRP will be back though.

Inside flat carpet.Runline is 135 to 140. Rollout in the 2.70s.Record so far is 82 5.01.And I think I have the fast lap at 3.577.

rolling in the 2.50's last week and temp was 108 degrees, with a sentered rotor. (13.5)

JDW

These numbers are with the stock rotor we try to stick with the BRL rules since some of the guys run in the BRL.So the temp would probely be in the 130s deg with a sintered rotor.

Did they ship you a new '07 COMP?

I'm curious what I may get out of them. When my COMP went south it was rather uneventful so I thought they may fix it or something.

Hi Guys,

I jusy bought a sphere comp 07 and wired up my 10.5 motor. Everything set up fine but when I tested it out in the street it would shut down after 3 seconds at full throttle. I tried re-soldering the motor, resetting the speedo, checking the connection of the sensor wire, and even gearing down a few teeth and installing the heat sink. It happens so fast the motor doesn't even get a chance to get hot.

Anyone have any other suggestions for me? Thanks.

Tonyp,

You sure it's the motor shutting down and not maybe a spektrum type receiver?

I've had my spektrum shut down under heavy loads and go into failsafe.

I have a regular 27 band FM receiver. Thanks anyway. The wierd thing is I can still steer so it has to be either the motor or the speedo. :(

4-cell pack?

Maybe it is set for a 2S LiPo low voltage cutoff.

This was a common problem experienced by Sphere Comp (previous version) users.

Ta Man is correct. I went to the track and everyine knew what my problem was. Thanks guys!

I don't recall a specific setting for low voltage cutoff. I believe if you use the NiMh/LiPo setting you will get the low voltage cutoff automatically.

If you are NOT using LiPo's, make POSITIVE you are in the NiMh race mode.

I found it. It's like the first mode. You can choose LiPo or "normal". Glad I read the instructions before hitting the track...or wall. -P

No shortage. "Apparently" they have been stuck in customs.

I have been in contact with Associated via the phone once or twice a week for the last month. I've been waiting to get my COMP back since early February.

Originally, they said they were going to send me a brand new '07 speedo. The shipment was stuck in customs because one of the boxes was broken open. That makes for a very prolonged clearance situation as far as customs goes. Then, about 10 days later they called me wanting $58 for repair and shipping on my old COMP which was still under warranty! At least it was when they received it in February. It has since expired. I refused to pay and they agreed to "overlook" the warranty expiration thing and would ship my speedo the next day. Another week passes and I call them wondering what is going on. They claim to be waiting for "paperwork" to clear before they can ship. It is supposed to be here sometime next week. Yeah.... right.

I am SOOO done with AE and LRP.

Speedo SHUTTING DOWN

I tried running my LRP B/L control this weekend in Phoenix, and it would shut down...sometimes on the first lap, sometimes maybe the 4th or 5th...a couple times over 25 laps into a run. After a few seconds...all would fire up again, sometimes it would run ok for a couple laps...sometimes it would just cut right off again when I pulled the trigger...

ANY IDEAS?

were you running a spektrum system?? If so try a receiver pack, or the spektrum cap...

Maybe it was in LiPo cutoff mode. It seems that is the factory default.

That sounds exactly like what mine was doing.
I messed around for a long time trying to figure out what was going on. I replaced RX's, Servo's, Motor's. Finally the ESC just quit and let out the "Factory Smoke". It was dead.
I sent it in [back in February]and they replaced one of the FET boards. I have not ran it yet, I just got it back last week. Yes, it took over 2 months to get it back.
In the meantime I started running a GTB. No shut down or glitching problems whatsoever.

swtour-

I think that was one of the problems with the older version that was fixed with the 07 update. Not 100% sure, but I think someone explained that to me a snowbirds. I would also try what burbs said if that is the case with your setup.

I had so may "service" problems when I ran an LRP with brushed motors that I switched to NOVAK and NEVER looked back. When I did have a problem with NOVAK (once) it was promptly replaced NO questions asked. Cannot beat NOVAK for customer service.....IMO Ralf

.I'm going to try resetting the ESC...it appears the BLUE light is burnt out or not working...and I did reset it after the last race...I may have gotten it switched into the LIPO mode, that would make sense based on how it was acting.

Thanks guys

Has anyone run the LRP 07 edition with a spec 4 cell, and spec motor? I tried this past weekend, and it was fast up front, but then died about 45 sec into the run. I could run the whole race, but very slow. Just checking to see if this modle would run with the older batts. They are not Nimh cells, and the instructions only say stuff about nihm and lipo.
Thanks

I think the problem you are experiencing is the fault of your older batteries, not the ESC. Sounds like you have a bad cell.
It should not make any difference wether you are running NiMh's or NiCd's as far as the ESC is concerned. As long as they are good packs.

I set it up on my chasis dyno...and adjusted it until it would work...sent it in this week to get the LED repaired
