I have an original T-Maxx (bouth in 2001 I think)that I dug out of the garage for the first time in 3 or 4 years. It's got a Megatech 16 engine in it (1 hp). Anyway, after squirting WD-40 in the carburetor and the glow plug hole I was able to turn the engine again. Amazingly after about 20 seconds of pulling the pull start she fired right up! Well after about 2.5 tanks of fuel and fun I stripped something in the transmission. Not sure what it is yet, but my question is: are the new T-Maxx transmissions a direct bolt up to the old T-Maxx, and are they better, or should I just try to fix the old tranny?

Also, I have a Futaba radio and Futaba servos on the T-Maxx. The steering servo can not turn the tires unless it’s moving (almost all the parts are aluminum so it’s heavy). Would this be normal or should I get a beefier steering servo?

Thanks for any help, it’s been awhile and a lot has changed since the last time I was into R/C

On a side note, both I and the wife got the new electric Traxxas Stampedes. They are a blast. It feels good to be able to get back into the R/C hobby!

The trannys are still the same. Take it apart and replace only what is stripped. upgrade to a JR 9000t servo for steering and get a reciever pack to juice it. put your old steering servo as throttle/brake for better brakes, but be sure to set the end point correct so you don't rip off the carb!
Welcome back!

Here a shot of the engine. I don't think you can by this engine any more but, so far it's been good to me.

go back to the stock header and the traxxas tuned pipe (possibly for the old 4tec) and that engine will work great! try an 18 tooth clutch bell and you'll love it!

Have fun!

Thanks for tip nitrojeff. If I can find the old header and pipe then I'll give it a try. Bought a traxxas hump pack from the bay and man what a big diference that makes on the seering servo. I installed a better servo for the steering and put the old one where the trottle servo is. I should have it back together tonight. Hopfully I'll be able to give it a test run. Thanks again for your help.

glad to help! I have a fleet and I can't get enough of the Maxx! the 18 tooth clutch bell requires new bearings, but it is the best mod. even a 19 tooth is better and uses the same bearings.
have fun
