View Full Version : money race in Catskill / monthly ?
Team21 03-08-2007, 12:01 PM The track is in Catskill NY, small dirt oval. I am looking for interest in doing a monthly money race[ $50 ] . I am hopeing to get some replies about interest, and what night most feel would be good. Fri nights are out cause we race 358 mod's at Accord. I would need someone with a scoring system. The track is already wired to attach to computer. Lights are set up for night racing if need be. Sponsors are very welcome so maybe top 3 in A main will recieve awards. I would like to start in May. E-mail me at Team21@mhonline.net
make subject RC Race so I don't spam you out.
Thanks Team21 Speedway

Team21 03-14-2007, 09:56 AM Come on Guys, no replies ????? You mean to tell me no one is interested in racing ? I thought a money payoff would have sparked an interest here.
Bill
Dirtydrc 03-16-2007, 05:39 AM Is this the old Cobleskil track? If not, where exactly is the track?
Thanks.
Team21 03-16-2007, 09:54 AM Dirty , NO , it's not the old track in Cobleskill. CDRCSCC , has come down several times at the end of each dirt season to to include this track as part of their quad serieis. 4 diff tracks.
I am in the town of Catskill NY on Rte. 23A. Near the old Catskill Game Farm.
Everyone loves this little clay oval [ 72 ft. groove ] Todd Putnam, Chris Lorett, Vic, Mike Watson, The Hauenstiens, Kirt Coonrad, and many others have all come to play and love the track. It's a driver track that doesn't require lots of HP.
Hope this helps.
Bill
Dirtydrc 03-17-2007, 08:59 AM Oh. OK. Would you run weekly as well, or just monthly money races?
What cars work good? Our track in New Milford CT. runs all converted buggies EDM. Ths smaller the track is, the better. I hate big tracks that are just a 4 minute dyno test of motors & batteries.
Team21 03-18-2007, 01:18 PM Dirty
This would be monthly only because I own 2 358 dirt modifieds that eat up all my time. EDM buggies are fine, but the terminators and custom works work very well. We usually run 5 min heats and could pick a number of laps for the mains. Fri nights are out for me because that's the night we race 358's. I am waiting for some input to try and find out what day or night is best for all.
Bill
Todd Putnam 03-18-2007, 07:10 PM Bill,
You could count me in, as long as I get my annual pit space...
You'll probably get a bigger response once the weather gets nice and people shelf their carpet cars for the summer.
-TP
Rocket9D 03-21-2007, 12:24 PM bill, Cant wait to see you at accord. Trying to get Barry D's car ready for 358 racing. how far is your place from accord?
Team21 03-22-2007, 09:57 AM Todd
I think your right, I'm hoping the weather will help out to let me hear from true dirt racers. Come on now $50 big ones. Who has the lamb chops to show what they got ?
I also have raffle tickets from Woodstock Harley for a 2008 Road King. $10 per ticket, 3600 tickets will be sold. Gotta be in it to win it, just like the money race.
Pit space can be worked out as usual, plenty of room in the neighbors house. I am still working on a scoring system. I asked Kirt, but haven't heard back yet. Anyone know of a working system cheap? remember my brother and I own 2 358 mod's, that's where all the $$$ is spent. still looking for the best day of each month to have these races. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW ? Let me hear some input please.
Todd, will the new house car be ready to compete for the monthly race's ? I got a new body for it but can't mount it till I have it. Any question's give me a call on my cell 518-821-3544
Thanks Bill
Team21 03-22-2007, 10:11 AM Rocket
Not sure who you are, but good to hear from you. Yeh, we are just about ready for Accord as a 2 ar team. Bill Papula will drive our 99 Teo and John Lutes Jr. will wheel the 2002 Teo. Not much time left to get ready, but we'll make it. Lots of late nights since it's just john and I doing all the work. Jr has now been helping when he can.
Catskill is about a 45 min ride from Accord by car. E- mail me at Team21@mhonline.net
What are you running for a RC. We run converted buggies [ B3's , custom works , Putnam pro's, Terminators ] all electric. We will be only tooo happy to help you out if your interesrted.
I live only min'sfrom the Catskill Game Farm if you ever been there.
Bill
Rocket9D 03-22-2007, 04:23 PM bill, right now i am runing carpet oval at marshall's hilltop hobbies in honesdale, pa. im running 4cell stock. getting a custom works edm though.
Team21 03-23-2007, 10:26 AM Rocket
Cool, how long you been RC'ing ? Stop over at the track and say hey.
Take a look at Putnampropulsion.com, Todd makes a very competitive EDM.
Bill
Rocket9D 03-23-2007, 12:34 PM Bill, i have been in the hobby almost 12 years now. My friend Mike Senecal drove for you on a one night deal for accord two years ago. when mark flach left. how big is the track you have?
Team21 03-23-2007, 05:15 PM Rocket
The track is small but fast. 72 ft. race groove. We run 5 min heats. Any lay down brush stock motor, again Todd Putnam is the man for power plants. 6 cell 3300 and up.I live in a mobile home park and the track is next to the house. I do have lights that light it up just fine in the event of night racing. The clay is very good high bite clay. Foams work best. I am still running 15 yr old foam. I run B frt's and A rears. I think they are diff compounds now, ask Todd or someone else for this info. I only play when some of you guys want to come over and do it up. Get some buddies together for a sunday and we'll play. I have 2 house cars that get around fine I lend out. NOT TO BREAK.
Bill
Bonzai 04-03-2007, 06:27 PM Ill try it. I live in new rochelle ny and its a long ride to red neck, radio hill ,bumps and jumps etc. I think your a lot closer.
Team21 04-04-2007, 11:50 AM Bonzi
It would be nice to have you. All are welcome. Please keep the post coming as I am trying to figure out which will be the best day to try for. I am still looking for a used scoring system that works at a fair price, so if anyone knows of a system with transponders please let me know. The system must be in working condition. 518-678-9653
Bill
balistic 04-05-2007, 09:03 AM Bill
why dont you call Howie from latham maybe he will loan you his scoring system.as far as i know there not using theirs and the charging of the transponders would prob do them good.
Bob H
Team21 04-05-2007, 12:17 PM Bob
Thanks, I'll give him a call. Can't hurt. Anymore info on a score system greatly apprec'd.

Bonzai 04-10-2007, 04:03 PM Is anyone going to run sprint cars? How about mod edm?
Team21 04-10-2007, 05:06 PM Bonzai
I haven't heard anyone asking about sprints[ great class ] I lost the last one I had in a fire last Dec. EDM is the money class at this point. I will however, find time or a spot to run any sprints that want to come and play. ALL WELCOME !!!
Which day is perferred ? Sat or Sun. ? Race start at 2;00 pm
Bill
Madball 04-10-2007, 07:55 PM What would be a good setup.
NASCR3 04-11-2007, 10:42 AM Unfortunately for me by the time I drive down & back from Saratoga I will spend more than what I could win on gas in my truck, so I guess I'm not gonna make it.
Sorry,
John
Team21 04-11-2007, 12:39 PM Madball
I am not the guy to tell you a good set up as I run some old school stuff. I'm sure if you ask Todd Putnam or Balistic [Bob ] or many others you will get some great info on what they recomend. The track is high bite clay at 72 ft. groove.
Bill
Nascr3
Sorry you can't make it.
Bonzai 04-12-2007, 09:35 PM Ill be there, I love to race no matter what the gas costs.Ill bring my sprint just in case others show up.
Big_Mike 04-13-2007, 07:27 AM Hey Bill.....I've heard alot of good things about the "LUTES BULL RING" It'll be hard for me to make it down because we race on my track every Saturday and my wife works on Sundays. But if you decide to run on Sundays I will try too get there at least once this summer even if i have to bring the kids with me.
Team21 04-17-2007, 01:29 PM Mike
You are most certainly welcome. Bring the kids anyway, they'll have just as much fun. I am still undecited whether it will be Sat or Sun. We may run Glenridge on some Sun's but not each week so a Sun isn't out of the question. Hope you can make it, the wife makes burgers, dogs and a salad, so no running to burger king is required.
I spoke to Howie about a score system but he wants $2000 for it.
Maybe hand clickers at this point.
Bonzai 04-20-2007, 02:25 PM Are you guys racing this weekend?
Team21 04-25-2007, 01:07 PM Bonzai
Sorry I missed your post, busy on the race cars. The track is available for anyone to practice , call 1st 518 678 9653 or 821 3544cell. I am shooting for Sat 19th or Sun 20th for the money race. I haven't been hearing any replies as to which will be the better so I'll make the call soon.

disruptor10 04-25-2007, 05:17 PM Hey Billy when's the first night of action ?
Team21 04-27-2007, 10:59 AM Dave
Hope you and Bob will make it. I am still going with Sat. 19th or Sun 20th. at 2 pm. I am still waiting for input as which is better for everyone, but if not I'll make the call myself by 1st week of May. I hope everyone has their rides all tuned up and race ready. The track is great and will be real fast for a bull ring, some say it's the action track. I should prob mention that all need to bring a fold table so as to have a work space.
If you should happen to see Todd P. , I kinda need my ride to enjoy the fun. Ask him to call my cell 821 3544. Thanks
Bill
Team21 05-01-2007, 11:19 AM OK, Sun the 20th is the season opener.. I have not had any luck with a score system so I guess it will be hand counters. Practice at 2:00 pm. $50 big ones to the A main winner. Food and drink available.
NASCR3 05-01-2007, 11:41 PM Hey Bill you might want to re-think that that plan. That weekend the WDRA is having two races one at the track in Latham on Saturday 19th & the other is at Kirt's track the Pine Bowl on Sunday the 20th. Just an FYI so you can get the best car count possible.
John
Team21 05-02-2007, 01:49 PM John
Thanks.... Oh well, I have been asking for this info right along, but as usual now that the decision has been made I start hearing why it's not good. Everyone has been asked, and it's alittle too late. If this doesn't happen after all my hard work , I will cancel any further activities the rest of the season. I said right along my time is too valuable with owning 2 dirt mods. All it would have taken is some input that was asked for since the first post. Time will tell.
Thanks again Bill
Team21 05-22-2007, 08:55 AM WOW...What a week end of of super racing, the pay off was Greatly Apprec'd. $50 BIG ONES... Fantastic.
As was expected the track was high bite and very smooth and super fast for a small action track. Competition was the most competitive it good be. The weather was rough at first and than the clouds opened up for a sunny day of fender bending, body bashing , wheel rubbing, paint swapping event. I will be cleaning donuts off the car for awhile. I told Cathy to go easy on me...She don't listen.
I didn't have the new ride from Todd to try out so I went back in to the time capsule and pulled out a 30 year old classic RC10. Boy it still can go...
We had way toooo much fun. I can't thank Cathy enough for the wheel job she did with her Terminator against my antique RC10. We battled for hours. Melted many a pack, and had stomach aches from laughing so hard. We really needed a day like that.
After all the exciting heat races the A main was ready. We lined them up as they qualified, NO invert. 20 min main. It was the Greatest time ever. The track did lose just a bit grip as the sun did what it does, but the cure was to wet the nearby grass with the hose and do a drive through to get the tires wet for some traction. Cathy thinks of everything.....By the time we were so dizzy that we couldn't stand we called the event and counted the total laps for the pay off.
A main
Cathy Lutes # 21... Terminator .... 958 laps finished in the runner up spot, 2nd. Congrads to my loving bride... What a wheel.
And the A main WINNER !!!
Bill Lutes # 21... Antique RC10....959 laps.. Winner of $50 BUCKS... YAHOOOOO !
we took the payoff and jumped in the car and went out to dinner and a movie. We ate Chineese , and saw spiderman 3. By the time we got home we finished the night up doing the naughty nick nick thing. Being real close to the big 50, I'm not sure how many more of these kind of days are left in me ?
We are having a birthday 50 th and playing on the track again May 27th at 2:00. Food , beer , soda, racing , all the fun sstuff. This time I think I'll race from outside the infield.
Big_Mike 05-23-2007, 07:35 AM Billy...Did you have a good turn out?? and how many.
Team21 05-23-2007, 09:02 AM Good morning Mr. Mike
We had a no show, so we made it a family day of pure fun. The wife had lots of pitty on me after all the work, so she decided she would grab the wheel by the foam. I have 3 house cars left after the fire, and John fissler was more than kind enough to donate some left over 3300 batt packs. Thanks a bunch John, had nothing to use for power. They work great for us. I ran an old fiberglass RC10 chassis with the trans locked up for possi. A neighbor ran my B-3 and Cathy used her old terminator.
We BBQ'd , played had good tunes playing and just had way toooo much fun. I was kinda pissed at first that no one showed but bottom line is I do it cause I enjoy it. No one wants to play, so be it. The pay off went to a good cause, Dinner and a movie.
I didn't have any luck with a score system either, but I think people mean well. I made a honest attempt to pull it all together but it just wasn't meant to be.
Mike ... I had Dave L. get a body from you, for a Putnam ride, can you cut me some vinyl so I can letter it up ? The car is Red with white inner pannels. I run the 21L #'s and want LUTES FAMILY RACING on the rear sail panels. Bill Lutes on the roof.
Drop me an e-mail if you can help me out and let me know how $$$.
Thanks Bill
disruptor10 05-23-2007, 04:52 PM Yeah really suks that our weather was all rain and yours was good , see ya sunday .................................................. .........................................
.................................................. .................................................. ........
.................................................. .................................................. ......./
Team21 05-24-2007, 08:46 AM Dave
I know it sucks ....I'm just a ray of sunshine.
Bring your ride people will be playing with the hse. cars. They are novice !!!!!, so they kick my backside....
Bring a table and chair, cathy took mine to set up for food and eats.
I spent hours last night again preping the track , I don't think you can improve on perfection though. A car did hit a pole and take out the elect., so I couldn't soak it with the hose as I wanted, but got up 6 this morn and took care of it. Boy was I tempted to get out a hot rod and see how hot I could make the nimi's.
Cathy already gave me notice she hung up her radio for a spatchula... the thing to flip burgers.. a burger turner over thing ????
We had to rebuild the eng in the 959 mod, found metal in the oil ??? Not off to a good start this year with either car. I'll be at Accord fri night, Early Sat morn off to the Am Jam on the bike, and come home Sun to celebrate 50 years of birth. WOW never thought I live this long... go figure. Thanks be to God. I entered the bike in the bike show, last year I got 2nd with it.
See ya Sun for food , fun, drink, look at babes, and RC. I'll have to tape the bucket back on the tree, it claimed a A arm last Sun. Ouchhhh !!!
disruptor10 05-24-2007, 10:38 AM Hey Billy any intrest in a Tire truer ? New Integy automatic with tire arbors for CW and pan cars $200 , i will have table and chair and powercords
Team21 05-25-2007, 08:57 AM OK..The week end is here, and I'm just plain pooopped !! I got both poarches painted, hung tarps, dragged and raked the track , got grill gas, fixed track lights, serviced house cars, serviced tractor, cleaned and polished bike, worked on both race cars, went to work ea. day, and made the wife smile, if you know what I mean, and that was all in my spare time. So we are ready for a day of whatever. food , tunes, beer, soda, coffee, water, company,ETC, you get the pic, it's called a party.
There will be RC racing, I hope, if we have enogh show up. All are welcome, but tables and chairs a must.
Still no score system, so you must be able to multi task, drive and count at the same time, I myself will let my Grandaughter of 5 do all my counting, I'm always a Winner in her eyes. My daughter Brittany is back from Paris and will be on hand. Maybe we can get her to grab a radio. Can you believe she is 23 already. OH BOY !!!!
Hope all have a safe and happy Mem week end.
Bill
Team21 06-29-2007, 01:46 PM anyone interested in an adult river party ? Drop a reply for the info..
Party is Sat. July 14th till Sun. Boat pick up available at Coxsackie boat launch.
This is put on by Lutes Family Racing each year, lots of bikers also attend. Not a party for sissies or whimps.
disruptor10 07-10-2007, 03:16 PM Hey Billy empty your e mail box , says over quota !!
Team21 07-18-2007, 10:02 AM Dave
Sorry about the prob with my e-mail, I have to get in touch with my server and find out what the prob is, and have them step me through. I am real busy with the mod's. I am building a 400 block for the 959 to compete against the big blocks at Accord.
Hope all are well and the club and it's members are all having way too much fun, I miss it. The eye's continue to get worse, or should I say eye is getting worse. Cataracts, bla ,bla, bla...
the Dr. put me on a new med for my kidney, but it's not agreeing with me, making me sick. I spent Sun on the river RALPHING......and don't drink.....
Goood luck and have fun racing.
If you talk to Todd ask him if I have any chance of getting a hot rod before snow flies...
Bill
