What is an easy way to make body mounts for AF/X style bodies?
I have "adjusted" the nose on an Auto World Superbird and now I want to dump the body into the weeds.....

Hey Scott!

Here is what I do, eh! (wish I had pics. might help) you will need modelers clay and 5 minute epoxy.

I shave out the old mounts. Upper pins only. (nearest roof) You will want the lowers in place.

Use an old bare roller chassis, set up with wheels you will use on the slammer.

Place a small wad of clay into the chassis, high enough that it must be squashed a bit to settle the bod where you want it. (practice the part of squashing the bod down, eh)

Lightly oil the chassis tabs (VERY LIGHTLY!) and set bod into final position. (take care that no oil gets on body) If you have enough clay, chassis and bod should grip together.

Mix some 5 minute epoxy and flip (squashed) bod and chassis upside down.

Float epoxy around chassis tabs, taking care to float some around the remaining lower body mounts. Be patient and only do 1 side at a time. (trust me on this, hey!) When it has set (5 minutes, not so long to wait, yeah?) mix a bit more epoxy and do the other side. When it has completely set, (I wait an hour or more, eh) remove chassis as per normal.

Clean up bod and dress new mounts with a file if needed.

You now have a sweetly slammed body! :thumbsup:

Great method Joe. This one will go in the bag-o-tricks. Probably works good for adapting other bodies to the basket "handle chassis".

I like both methods, schlobbering up some "Joezgoo" and Coaches method of firing up the whizzer and flinging parts across the room at terminal velocity. Some times I do both at the same time :p

I have lowered a bunch of JL Xtracs using the epoxy method. I use JB weld though, just because it sets up harder. Some epoxies can be rubbery after curing.... Not that it matters. Any epoxy should work.

I have lowered a a couple by trimming the top of the mounts then adding a small piece of styrene plastic on the lower part to take up the slack. I can use super glue to get the pieces in place and then follow up with some JB Weld to make sure they stay in place. Have had great sucess and i don't have to do much trimming to get them down. :thumbsup: rr

This is the method I use. Thanks for saving me the trouble of having to spell it out!

I do just as RR does.. But every one has some wonderful ideas ..all will work..

Joez, I need some bodies sacrified but won't fit in the box right..lol
