View Full Version : Banked Tracks
Dale Epp 02-27-2007, 04:41 PM I'm trying to get a more accurate overview of what's going on in oval racing in 2007.
QUESTION: Do you race at a banked oval?
QUESTION: Is it carpet or paved?
QUESTION: Where is it?
QUESTION: Do you know of a thriving active banked oval track(s) program somewhere in the USA? (not including velodrome racing)
Any and all information is much appreciated!

huffrcman 02-28-2007, 06:39 PM At our velodrome the spec class does not use high speed bodies. The 2000 Monte Carlo and Taurus are highly sought after by them.So if there is a new low downforce body made it will be the one to get.
aracefan3 02-28-2007, 11:56 PM Classic Hobbies in Akron Ohio has a beautiful carpet banked track.

erock1331 03-01-2007, 01:40 PM Classic Hobbies in Akron Ohio has a beautiful carpet banked track.
185 ft runline i think.
Also Classic has a 268' Slightly banked Asphalt Oval where a Lower DF body works well. A PF 2000 Taurus was always money on that track as well as the indoor track.

This is a great track. Are they still running there??
any chance of a Concrete Oval Championship race again??
Danielle 03-02-2007, 09:23 AM But of course ! K & N Speedway stafford springs,ct. 190ft carpeted banked oval.
Yes it's still there i believe you were there a few times yourself.

How about you come (Dale) to the Spring Sizzler in May and judge for yourself! lol. Your friend Rick Stockhaus will be there for certain - and we'd love to have you!!!
98Ron 03-02-2007, 10:08 AM Wade, since the hurricanes a couple years ago and the park having been taken over by FEMA for nearly a year, then Bob the concrete champs moved to TX, them a state oval series(flat ashpalt) got started, not much racing on the banking has been done, the dirt folks are still going strong, in fact they have a state race there next week. I don't think anyone down there has the skill set or time to take on promoting an event like the concrete champs.
Dale Epp 03-02-2007, 10:54 AM THANKS for the great responce guys. Guess there's more banked ovals out there than I thought. It helps me to figure out how I'm going to do things when you guys help expand my understanding of what's out there and what's needed.
Danielle: thanks for the invitation to K&N. I went to the Winter Blast a few times back in the the 90's. Great memories indeed! Awsome racing, great entertainment (provided by Steve Fiume  ) and the best clam chowder I've ever had. I sure would love to get out there for a race again.

I want to know too... Is Mill Pond Park track stil there??
Fl Flash 03-03-2007, 09:43 AM Still there, just needs a promotor ( Bobs work took him to Texas ) and some racers. Sweet High banked, Fast and smooth concrete track, I thought it was closer to 300" runline?
I thought the run line at mill pond was closer to 300" also.
Lee you going to make Branford this Sunday ??
David Butts 03-04-2007, 02:55 PM Dont forget the 350+ asphalt Hobby World track in Jax Fl. Foam tires exclusively but still fast, Only enough banking to see but you don't really use it.
www.racewayathobbyworld.tk/ (http://www.racewayathobbyworld.tk/)
You'll have to turn off the pop up blockers to view it but this place is fast and the FOCARS series has run here all three years of it's existance. It's known as the Monster. Protoform bodies have all the oval records with the exception of 12th scale but that is is a psuedo protoform(aero1)body also.
ptown20 03-04-2007, 08:11 PM The Hobby Stop Raceway in Seaford, De. 355' asphalt tri-oval with medium banking. Home of the Custom Works/Delaware Paved Oval Championships.

Erich Reichert 03-25-2007, 01:21 AM From what I understood, SoCal runs oval once in a blue moon (banked asphalt). Maybe SWTour can tell me if I need to be corrrrected.
