Macs_Little_Car 02-23-2007, 02:46 PM I bid $50.00
Lpgeoteacher 02-23-2007, 02:47 PM $55.00
Mark Hosaflook 02-23-2007, 03:23 PM Since this is a door slammer style drag race car the name format will be slightly different this time. ADDWC will again award the Driver's name in a contest of their choice in house. That name along with this auction winning name as the "Mechanic" will be placed on the front fender corner along with two sponsor names that will be assigned to "Paint by" and "Engine built by". This is because some of our sponsors do not have a company logo associated with them yet should be recognized the same way those who do have a logo are. It also keeps the car from having just random names placed on and about it. Just wanted everyone to know that we are trying to keep with the theme of the car yet make it "special" for that winning person.
Let's use Gerald our beloved HT Mod as an example. Gerald is the sponsor last year of the ET gravity racing track. Gerald is also a sponsor this year as well but has no direct affiliation with a company logo or a die-cast concern other than being a great guy so Gerald can be perhaps the painter of the car or the engine builder. It keeps the theme on track and doesn't look silly with a random name of a person spliced strangely on a body panel somewhere.
Visualize this
Driver - ADDWC appointed
Mechanic - Joe Diecast (high bid auction winner)
Paint by - Gerald Endres
Engine by - Dixie the Dachsund
placed on the fender like you see on other vintage race cars.
Does that better explain it?:)
Kmcardle 02-23-2007, 03:28 PM I bid $75.00
Mr.Stubbs 02-23-2007, 04:13 PM Is there a limit on the number of characters allowed?
Macs_Little_Car 02-23-2007, 04:31 PM 8
Just Kidding

Well if you have a name like Mark VonHosaflook it could be an issue but from one stubburn Dutchman to another, what did you have in mind Bert? Hey, if you name is Clem Kadiddlehopper IV and you win and that's what you want on there then that's what you get!
The only thing we will not allow is poor taste or vulgarity.
A child's name perhaps might look pretty cool on that car ehh Bert? Hint hint, nudge nudge!

That's what I had in mind Mark! Is 19 Characters including spaces doable?
Mr.Stubbs 02-23-2007, 04:45 PM Oh yeah! ............ $90

I think so I mean look at the meaning and all. What a way to send a message to somebody you care about. It helps the cause, the charity is without question and it's a touching way to honor somebody. In a couple years at show and tell some kid shows off his toy car. Your kid is next and he pulls out a memorial with his name on it that helped a cause. Yep, not hard to picture is it?
Gee Bert no pressure on you now, huh?:p
GeraldE61 02-23-2007, 05:44 PM You plan sounds great, this car is going to rock!
VWowner 02-23-2007, 06:31 PM GOIRISHBEATOHIOSATE.....SOMETIME...ANYTIME....

Lpgeoteacher 02-24-2007, 06:54 PM Engine by - Dixie the Dachsund?:
Is this car in the Cat in the Hat Series? I thought that was the only cars that Dixie wanted to see run!  :jest:
Macs_Little_Car 02-25-2007, 02:54 PM WoW!!! $145 from Mr Stubbs... looksl like somebody is going to owe daddy later in life!!
ViperMan 02-25-2007, 03:01 PM Man if I owned a shop I would pay out the ears for this Imagine a shop owner giving these to his top customers showing them that he is such a good mechanic that the diecast companies use him as the mechanic!
I wish my pockets were deeper!
Lpgeoteacher 02-25-2007, 03:26 PM I wish my pockets were deeper!
I feel the same way!
Mark Hosaflook 02-26-2007, 12:48 PM Wow, this is going great!!!
2manetoys 02-26-2007, 12:51 PM I'll go $175.
Mark Hosaflook 02-26-2007, 01:58 PM What happened to the thread and guy who wanted to do something for Bud Burelson? He wanted to try and win the bid last Friday and I offered up a solution to continue the legacy. Now it's gone or i can't find it and I got no e-mail discussing it?
Mark Hosaflook 02-26-2007, 03:45 PM I didn't like the suggestion. I removed my posts to keep my idea from sparking any conflicts.
If we went the route I was suggesting I bet we would have at least double what the bid is now and Bud's name would be where it deserves to be and not as a sponsored name.
I guess I'm confused by this reply, where does it deserve to be? Did you think the winning bidder no matter who it was, would automatically place Bud's name on the car rather than perhaps their own idea or name? Isn't that quite an assumption and peer pressure? I also felt many would be pressured into not bidding because they perhaps would feel bad about bidding against a legacy? When you offered up the idea the bid was already past 100.00 and I offered to grant your suggestion, place his name in honor for the 50.00 fee. Somehow that was viewed as a slight? Please explain by private e-mail. Would you feel better if I charged you the winning bid fee? I really am confused.

Mark Hosaflook 02-26-2007, 04:04 PM My first post merely suggested that, for those that wanted, band together and collect a lump sum to place 1 huge bid. I would have loved to bid on my own but I do not have the deep pockets that a lot of other collectors have. It may have discouraged others from bidding but we as a group would have probably been able to place 1 bid.
I am not trying to pressure the winnig bidder to have that name placed on the car either. That is why I removed my original posts. You brought it up publicly so I replied publicly.
Actually, the way you run it discourages the collectors with the same monitary situation as mine to be able to win such a sweet prize.
I bet if you had a raffle to win that honor you would probably raise moer loot as well because those that may not be able to afford $300.00 or more would probably buy a couple of $5.00 chances.
I brought it up because I thought I had a solution on Friday to come back to nothing and was concerned.
Mr.Stubbs 02-26-2007, 06:18 PM $185
2manetoys 02-27-2007, 08:35 AM I'll take it to $200.
If I'm outbid, then I'll contribute to a "collective fund" bid to put Bud's Name on the car. Either way, the $200 stands.
Mr.Stubbs 02-27-2007, 07:14 PM Oh goody! A bidding war
$200.01
GeraldE61 02-28-2007, 10:14 AM One Cent? You can do better then that!
Mark Hosaflook 02-28-2007, 10:30 AM Last time I tried to settle something like this it fell apart on me but really this is a community effort and if you both are agreeable and there is no other snipe bid out there I'll gladly work both names on the car for that 200.00 fee.
If agreeable one can be the "Mechanic" and the other can be "Crew Chief" as the Driver's name is locked in for the ADDWC gang to use as they want. Just an offer. Both parties can e-mail me in private to voice concerns or thoughts.
Mark:)
2manetoys 02-28-2007, 12:13 PM Although I didn't know Bud personally, from what I have seen here I think it's fitting that his name be on the car somewhere. The location isn't important to me. If Mr. Stubbs wants the Mechanics spot, that's fine.
Since I'm not a NASCAR fan, where is the Crew Cheif's name normally placed?

See page one, thread 4 for deatils. We can do "paint by" or add "crew chief"
These are pegged to be on the front fender. A fitting tribute I might add!
Nomad 02-28-2007, 08:42 PM I will bid $225.00
Nomad 02-28-2007, 10:17 PM btw Since this is for charity, it would be nice to see bid increments in the 9-10% range.
