I was pleasantly surprised to find Urgh:A Music War on INHD tonight, the print they had was better than the one I sat thru in Midnight Movies about a dozen times in the eighties. Sounded pretty good too.

I've been enjoying the recording of King Kong I made from HBOHD because I can fast-forward to all the good parts. Whatever else you want to say about the movie, it's gorgeous to look at and Jackson hit it right out of the ballpark with the final Empire State Building sequence. Tis' a thing of beauty.

Watched Urgh! recently and got a particular kick out of some of the more "dated" acts - Klaus Nomi. Gary Numan, The Go-Gos, and Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark come to mind.

It's definately dated, but I was surprised how good it looked, I remember it looking much murkier back in the day.'Course, that may have had something to do with the pot.

I recently purchased Mad Dogs and Englishmen on DVD. It's much improved too. Yeah, those Late Shows had a certain haziness about them for sure.:p

A Clockwork Orange was on one of the HD Channels last night. Can't say it looked any better than my SD DVD. I believe the term "High Definition" is being used rather loosely in some cases and what we are often seeing with older movies is just Anamorphic SD through an HD "spigot". I'm sure this will change as more and more older titles are truly re-mastered.

ShowHD is running the cult 90's film Thursday, this black comedy is worth catching for some good early work by Thomas Jane and Aaron Eckhart, and a great supporting cast including Mickey Rourke, Michael Jeter, and James LeGros and Paula Porizkova as a couple of hitmen who really enjoy their work. Looks great, and the movie's hard to see since the DVD is oop and outrageously expensive on the secondary market.
