Hi I have a 4 cycle engine that has a fuel shuf off, in order for me to start it after siitting for a few months i have to crank it with the shut off turned off, then I open it and it starts and runs. If I just try to start it with the shut off open as normal it will not start.

Anyone know what is happening here?? I heard long time ago that a this can be done with vice grips on the gas line also then releasing it and the engine will start.

Any help explaining would help

Thanks

Possibly your carburetor is flooding fuel into the throat of the carb. Shutting off the fuel may prevent excess fuel from entering the carburetor and allowing your engine to start, then of course once running turning on the fuel fuel keeps it running as the engine may be using it at a faster rate then the carburetor is leaking it out.

At least thats my guess.
