I was watching "JAWS" last week on Sci-Fi. In the scene where Brody goes into a shop to buy supplies to paint the warning signs, a Testors enamel model paint rack is clearly (but briefly) seen in front of him. Since we don't have it on DVD I was wondering if you catch a glimpse of any other 1970's era model kits or supplies...

Been hankering to watch that flick for awhile, will want to keep an eye out.

Similar: where can I find positive ID on the kits seen in the original Salem's Lot? I know it's long been figured out but haven't been around when it's mentioned.

I seem to recall seeing that very familiar sight of Testor's paints in Jaws. It can really bring back the memories of a time when brick and mortar hobby shops were around.

There are some great old Aurora kits in Salem's Lot. I remember recognizing every one of them I saw. Never thought to freeze frame the DVD and see what all is there, however.

Have you noticed the Aurora-like model kits in The Incredibles?

Aurora Monster kits make an appearance in Matinee as well.

Anybody own these films that could post a screen capture?

Darn. I just watched Jaws in HD a couple of weeks ago. I remeber the scene, but I don't remember seeing any paints or models.

Unfortunately, Matinee is OOP and has been for some time or I would own a copy. HDNET has been running it recently though so it may be due for re-release.

In Fright Night you can see some Aurora Monsters on the Shelf in Evil Ed's bedroom.
In Pee Wee's Big Adventure,An Aurora T-Rex is on a window sil along w/ Godzilla and some other dinosaurs.
In the Horror Comedy House, there are some Aurora models in one of the bedrooms.
In Galaxy Quest, Justin is building a plastic model of the Protector and you can see some McFarlane figures in his room.
In the 40 year old Virgin, there are a bunch of PL, Mego and other toys all over the place.
In Friday the 13-The Final Chapter, Corey Feldman has some Aurora models in his bedroom.
And I think there are some models in Gremlins and Poltergeist.

Found a VHS copy last year and haven't yet watched it...two snow days in a row now so I may have to toss it in.

I remember seeing the models in Salem's Lot but that was years ago...a couple were obvious but there was one or two that looked like kitbashes...some vampire recoiling from a large (to him) cross or something...

Anyone else note the obscure Aurora nod in that Simpsons episode where Homer thinks Bart is gay? THAT shows the signs of a true Aurora geek!

And while we're still somewhat off-topic....

In the TV Movie adaptation of "'Salem's Lot" (1979), the character of Mark Petrie has a number of model kits on his work bench, to include some sort of graveyard scene. I'm not that big in to figure models so can't really comment beyond that.

Watched it on vhs last night - couldn't freeze anything (dog has "misplaced" remote, AGAIN) but on the back wall by the door there are several figures; I think the original Dr. J is visible but that's about all I could make out. Then Mark is holding the MotM Frank.

Later, modeling bigot Dad comes in to ride him about his horror stuff and kitbuilding - I guess Dad would prefer he be out smoking weed and knocking up girls - while Mark works on the MotM Dr. J. Original Mummy seen in foreground. Dad later meets Kurt Barlow and becomes a believer. Briefly.

Then, in the famous window scene, the crucifix diorama is seen in closeup. These figures are excellently done from what I could see; since they remain unID'd I figure they're someone's custom job on loan for the shot...maybe the director's? Who knows.

BTW: I detected three distinct musical "quotes" (lifts) in the score: From The Night Stalker, from Frankenstein: The True Story and, I think, from Jaws. All of which would have been well-known recent vintage horror at the time SL was made. Listen close next time and you'll spot them.

PS Wasn't there a closing scene in Mexico or something where the guy and the boy were followed by the vamp girl? Wasn't on this tape but swear I've seen it.
