Hi,

I have an old snowblower with a Tecumseh HM80-155322M Ser:73080.
When the temperature get down to -15c (5 Farenheit) it won't start.

It ignites a couple of strokes, almost so I think it is going to work, but dies immidiately
That is with full choke and a couple of pushes on the primer.

When it's warmer outside I have no problem starting it on the first or second pull and it runs fine.

Anyone knows what this can indicate?

Thanks for a great forum you with the "know how"!

/Anders

Is the unit kept in a heated storage area, if not it could be the oil is very thick at that low temperature and the engine just has a hard time pulling its own weight until it warms up and the oil thins out some.

Thank's for the quick response!

No, It's kept in a cold shed so I guess you are right. I'm probably not able to get the engine spinning fast enough when it's that cold.

I'll try to get a grip on what I need in order to fit at electric starter on it, that should solve the problem I guess.

Does anyone have a "rule of thumb" on when it's too cold to start these types of engines? I'm thinking of the risk of damaging the engine, for instance due to lack of lubrication.
