View Full Version : Att: Tony M. and PRS gears
burbs 01-26-2007, 08:34 AM Ihave not seen a post in a while, so i did not know how to contact you otherwise..
I know you have a good place with PRS, so i figured i would ask you.. If you have been following brushles racing, you know its getting huge, and it wil be the future.. Along with brushless racing comes the need to run very large pinions.. On my car at the last race i ran a 120 52 pinion, on a med size track in 13.5 but with HD pod plates... anyway...here is my question/ concern,,]
The asociated pod plates dont allow a huge amount of gear options due to motor movement.. My guess is when we go from carpet to our 365 back track, the gearing needed might not fit on the ae style pod plates.. The other reasoning is velodrome racing.. i have not seen anyone make a spur gear under 88 teeth, sing the old robinsons, back in the day.. they had gears in the 68-75 tooth range if i remeber right.. Is it possible to get PRS to start making some small spurs in this range< or at least one? mabye even someything in the 75-80 range.. anyhoo i would have emailed you but i dont have your email..
Mike here's Tony's e-mail tony@precisionracingsystems.com

huffrcman 01-26-2007, 06:23 PM I asked this question last year, no reply...
erock1331 01-27-2007, 12:46 AM Burbs just put 2 60t pinions on there, lol
Tornado_Racing 01-27-2007, 07:06 AM Keep the interest coming guys so post your thoughts. I will tell you this, we can only go so small before teeth start getting in the way of diff ball holes.
smojoe 01-27-2007, 12:17 PM I would love something in the 75-80 tooth range done by PRS. 44/88 just doesn't fit well :freak:

It would probably end up being a 8 diff ball spur.. I still use quite a few spurs, with only 8 diff bal holes, and they work just fine.. Plus being a smaller gear. it wouldnt need the 12 ball holes..
I have an old robinson one, that i can send you tony, so you can see what im talking about better,, The teeth arent the best, but its enough to get the gist.. lemme know
huffrcman 01-27-2007, 02:45 PM Robinson makes 78,81 &85.I like the PRS pinions just would like to see a couple of spurs smaller than 88.With brushless 4300 running at the velodrome next year just wondering how much gear they will need.
swtour 01-27-2007, 06:31 PM A couple of our drome racers have in their collection some very small spurs...don't remember who's they are but they are quite a bit smaller than my 88's.
Thankfully PRS makes the HUGE pinions, that has helped a bunch on the VELO's already.
SJacquez 01-27-2007, 06:37 PM Robinson made a 73 tooth 64 pitch spur, that was the smallest they made. Robinson also made a 78 and 81 tooth spur.
huffrcman 01-27-2007, 09:03 PM I have on that is in the 60's, haven't taken time to count the teeth.
swtour 01-27-2007, 09:13 PM This is from the Robinson's web site
Part # Description Price
4178 Super 64 Pitch 78 Teeth machined spur gear $6.95
4181 Super 64 Pitch 81 Teeth machined spur gear $6.95
4185 Super 64 Pitch 85 Teeth machined spur gear $6.95
JH Racing 01-27-2007, 10:51 PM After all these years Associated should be looking at all the other pan car manufactures and redesign the motor plate so you can get some gear on thats what turns me off about the cars they work great you just can't get any gear on. thats my two cents .
swtour 01-27-2007, 11:59 PM JH Racing,
Try Jake's Performance Hobbies to see if they still have any of the IRS Extended Pod Plates avail. He was selling them for about 25 bucks for the black annodized ones.
JH Associated says there is no market for pancars anymore I bet they never come out with a L5o or any kind of up grades for the L4o.
Jake
There is a market, but it's a niche market.
JH Racing 01-28-2007, 08:55 AM May be Not for the L4.
huffrcman 01-28-2007, 09:13 AM Silva pod plates will take care of the gear problem. You could probably say that the X-factor is the L5O.
JH Racing 01-28-2007, 09:17 AM yea you could say that.
David Butts 01-28-2007, 11:49 AM JH Racing,

I'll tell ya you can get some huge gears on the Associated podded cars with the IRS extended plates. My 04 Maverick has them and up until a couple weeks ago it was my 4300 car. On our local track here, I've run as much as a 60 108 on it. So the smaller spurs would be no problem. Call Jake, You won't be sorry.
burbs 01-29-2007, 05:45 PM the extended plates make the pod longer.. this greatley changes the way the car handles..Unless the car is designed to use the long pod plates, your better off sticking to the normal length.. Just look at how many people over the last few years bought them, then sold them shortley after.. you wont find many people at all who really like the long pod plates..
Tornado_Racing 03-19-2007, 01:46 PM 2007 NEW PRODUCTS
You brushless guys have requested, well we listened. We will be introducing a few new spur gears to the Pro-Lite Oval line within the next few weeks.
PLO-6484 84 tooth Pro-Lite Oval
PLO-6480 80 tooth Pro-Lite Oval
A 76 tooth maybe added later on down the road but for now look for the 84 and 80 tooth to hit the local hobbyshops very soon.
Barry at MSA will be the first to stock these smaller spurs. As soon as they ship to him I will post letting ya'll know so your local hobbyshops can order.

swtour 03-20-2007, 09:09 PM Don,
I've been running the PRS Spurs, especially the BIG Ones..for quite some time...and you are right I do love them.
I had a HUGE assortment of Jay's spurs though...so I haven't bought any of those in years...but seeing NEW Sizes excites me...and should really kick VELO Speeds through the ROOF~
