Yep, I'm in a good sprint for my WonderFest build! I'm doing that classic kit of yore when they slapped a SW logo on anything & it sold! Yes, it's the R2-D2 van!!

Last night I finished one more step in the build of the van itself. I finished painting the dome that goes on top. I also added a clear eye for the main sensor. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, though I may throw in a bit of weathering. Here's two pics- one of the mods that I did, then the final paint job.

And thanks to Mango's help during last year's WF with taking some pics, I got a nifty dio planned that should actually be done by this year's WF!

Nice job on the mods to R2

Since it's a seventies van, what color shag carpeting do you plan to use on the interior?

Looking good so far. You need to dump the shag carpeting and go straight for the faux fur!

Why paint it, it is molded in color? :p

Looking real good!

Thanks! After I finished them, I wasn't quite sure if they'd look good painted, but I was quite happy with how they turned out. The blue is a mix I did since the store didn't have what I wanted. The wife thought I was nuts cutting out the front of a "googly eye" to make the main eye. I got that "head shake"... you know the one.

Hmmm... now you got me thinking! Frack. I already got the wood flooring laid down. Maybe on the walls?

Don't get me wrong, though it would definantly be funny, it would be out of place with the way I'm portraying the van in the dio. It's more of a transport/ cargo van. Maybe I'll get the Luke van & do it that way! Luke woiuld definantly have the fur!! Oooo!! And a waterbed in the back!

Wood floor? It's not a pickup! Maybe Redneck version.

Yea, but I wanted to do a bit of mixed media with this one- paint, plastic, metal, wood... I dunno, it turned out pretty good to my eyes!

And check it out! I even got my Astromech parts all finished! Dunno if he'll be R2-D2 or not. Maybe another 'mech...?

Thanks, Lloyd! :)
I'm starting to like using mixed media in my builds. Gives it a bit more "texture" & is more interesting to look at, IMO.

The word you need to use is ...unique. Now,when I build a model, I try to change or enchance it, so it is mine.

'Fer sure, Fluke! I'll be there! Did you see the other thread that has other progress pics?

I was working on the tailgate tonight as a friend & I were watching "I, Robot". I think I have the hinge system worked out & now have to finish it, then it's on to the... er... what do you call the glass part that flips upward, opposite of the tailgate flipping down? The "lift gate"? I have to make the little pistons & hinges that will hold up that part. Oh, there's so much to do!

Now on to searching Google Earth!
