i have windows xp media center, and everytime i log off/shut down i get error 1517. which says :Windows saved user %1 registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

i have no idea what to do, windows refered me to the microsoft help page which tells you to do nothing. even if you can do nothing is there a way to get rid of the error message?

disable Norton and see if the error comes up.

try typing in "chkdisk /f" in command prompt

.... or ditch Norton :p

yeah I know... I noticed the day after, so more than likely he tried chkdisk and it didn't work, and probably didn't know its actually chkdsk, so I wanted to make that clear so he can re-try. ;)
