I just wish I knew what we're really doing in Iraq. Are we trying to spend al-Qaeda under the table? Or, incite Muslims to self-destruction, through sectarian civil war?

We're certainly not building a nation. What we're building, is a huge Iraqi funeral pyre.

Speaking of Star Trek and Iraq, I think it's a shame DS9 was ten years too early. The episodes that dealt with the horror of war and the terrible price paid by soldiers was a high point in Trek history IMHO.
I think the reason the Trek franchise has foundered is because the shows became socially irrelevant. Where the original series dealt with current events and moral questions using a sci-fi premise, shows during the B & B era became (with a few exceptions) 45 minute blocks of technobabble(or time travel).

I think the reason BSG is so popular now is because, like TOS Trek, they are asking the hard questions that we have to face in modern times. We can watch, and then ask ourselves, 'what would I do?' The New Caprica arc was better than anything I've seen in years.

Let's hope if Trek ever does make it back on the air (thank God for the demise of UPN...) the producers will remember Trek's roots.

Seem's last night was "TOS cast members weigh in" night, anybody catch last night's episode of Boston Legal, Denny vs The Dept of Homeland Security?

Pretty funny episode, too bad our politicians (and board members) can't discuss things as intelligently and civilly as right-wing Denny and lefty Allan do at the end of the episode.

Wow. Wu, Wu, Wu. Oy.

Maybe later in the week he'll wear his Star Fleet uniform on the floor and address the members in Klingon. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Too bad the fellow undermined his argument with the Star Trek analogies (no one takes us seriously :( ). I'm sure his mini-speech was quickly dismissed.

Hear, hear.

I'm with you, but ironically, there are people who didn't like the NC arc in BSG.

Hey, there's a lot of old bombs still in inventory. You have to use them up every ten years or they go bad, you know.

WWII, Korea, Vietnam, still vietnam, several invasions, middle east, middle east part 2. Every ten years or so.

Star Trek uber-geeks! How else would you classify a great number of us here? :p

No, unless you walk around in your Starfleet uniform, spew technobabble like gangsta rap, pretend you are from the future (or think there are Starfleet agents from the future among us) and expect to be taken seriously, no you are not a Star Trek ubergeek. I've seen them in real life. Some think the Bible prophesized Star Trek while others have multiple personality disorders where their "true selves" only come out when they're in uniform... but they're all scary.

The worst people can accuse most of us of is taking a TV show a little too seriously.
