anyone have pics of ... how this solders up correctly? does the tube go on the side of the tab with the indent part top or bottom (duh).

The cutout (I am guessing you are talking about this as the "indent") in the tube is where the wire of the plug fits into so the plug will go further into the tube and also holds the wire in that direction. So it is soldered in whatever direction you want so the wire is directed in the direction you want. Hope that is understandable.
