He was 81. The Batman 01-09-2007, 08:30 PM Ruh Roh! Actually, I heard this on the radio this morning. I'm sure he was a talented fellow. It's sad to hear he's passed on. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mean to diminish any accomplishment that he may have made in warming the hearts of youngsters everywhere through this incredibly popular pop-culture icon but... Scooby Doo has always struck me as being pretty UN-original. He was so very derivitive of Astro - the Jetson's pet dog, who was around years before Scooby. Did Iwao Takamoto likewise have a hand in Astro's creation? Or did he just adapt an already existing concept to another cartoon dog character? - GJS GaresDesigns 01-09-2007, 11:58 PM I met him at a Warner Brothers Store signing in 1998. He was a very nice guy. I shook his hand, said hello and thank you, he then signed my 24" Scooby-Doo WB Store Statue. My wife has told me that since yesterday that one of our cats has been staring at the signed statue, pretty weird. Sorry to hear about his passing. spe130 01-10-2007, 01:58 AM Ruh Roh! I'm fairly sure it said that he created Astro, as well as several other Hanna-Barbera characters. "At the Hanna-Barbera studio, Mr. Takamoto spent four decades creating television cartoons. Besides 'Scooby-Doo,' he created the parasol-waving, sports car-driving Penelope Pitstop, as well as the Jetsons’ family dog Astro and Atom Ant of 'The Secret Squirrel Show.'" http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/10/arts/television/10takamoto.html GaresDesigns 01-10-2007, 02:04 AM That is true. He also got the name of Scooby-Doo from a Frank Sinatra song. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
