Howdy Maverick bretheren. I haven't touched a car since the early part of November and I'm starting to get the itch again. Or maybe thats just that nasty rash cropping up again. Either way I'll scratch that itch soon.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a nice holiday and are ready for some great racing in 2007!

Here's some updates from the shop ...

Yes, I've been working on a new Mini Mav. I'm on the 3rd, and final, version of the prototype. I'm hoping the one I just cut will be the same as the production chassis and parts! I'll be running it in two weeks, so I'll have a better idea then. I've made some cool changes on the #3 setup, 1/12 scale guys should really like this one.

Brian is borrowing the prior version of the prototype to run next weekend in Florida. He gets a loaner for the weekend. It's the in-between chassis that I've had great luck with. It's a lively little car, I hope he can tame it! :)

But, I'm not sure if they will be ready for the 'Birds :( The downside is the problem with the cutter and carbon. I'm seeing machining quality issues as well now, as I cut prototype parts. It has absolutely nothing to do with structural integrity, just finish.

I've been talking with other sources for cutting and for carbon. I've got some test sheets here and other options if my guy cannot make headway in the next week or two. I'm still very low on parts, and have no kits at the moment. I know this has been going on a long time, and it frustrates me very much. I hope to have something figured out by February.

Ok, onto the 1/10 scale car ... Nothing earth shattering here. We've been testing some new front end geometry, but other than that I'm still very happy with our chassis and pod. I've got some crazy stuff to test in '07, but I'm not saying much about that until it's programmed, cut and run .... :)

Racing stuff and replies:

When is the next BRL race? Good luck to the Maverick pilots who are attending!

Katfish: Thanks for starting the '07 thread!

Scott: Have you guys gotten with Joe and figured out a SWT date yet??

Mr. Butts: Scratch that itch! :)

Rich: Really looking forward to seeing you guys next month ... Guess I should make the reservations now!

Jimmy: I haven't decided on classes yet. 1/12 for sure, but I'm undecided on brushless or 19???

jflack,

I'll be ready for the 'Birds. I'm going to be running 1/10th stock, 1/10th 4300 B/L, and 1/12th 19 turn. Good luck to everyone that's headed to FL. I'm glad to hear about a new 1/12th scale car! From the thread on the SW Tour board, it looks like we will have a decent sized 1/12th scale group at all of the non-velodrome races.

TQ'd and finished 2nd in the A main at Carolina's RC for the first race of 07. If it wasn't for the traffic in the main I would have had 1st. Finished .3s behind 1st.

Hey Jim,

Glad to see a Maverick pilot at the Carolina R/C track. I'm from Greenville, SC originally. I was back there last October and it was good seeing everyone. I'm trying to get Cory Craig setup and running a Maverick regularly at Carolina R/C. Congrats on the second place finish! That's a very competitive oval crowd!

I will probably continue to run at Easley and get ready for the big races they are having this year. Definitely not going to run spec. I will probably stick with super spec.

Congrats to Chuck. Qualified 2nd and finished 2nd in 13.5 at the "Rumble in the Jungle" BRL Race in Cincinnati last weekend. His car was fast every race.

I qualified 4th and finished 6th in the A-main. I need to figure out how to keep the car free as the track gets sticky.

Kelm use bannas under the wheels it will keeper real free !!!! Well since you neglected to say how i finished. Was sick sat. with montazumas revenge, ran second in the e main i 4300, finished second in mod. not bad since i only had about 6 runs total on the track for the weekend and my head was spinning by the end of the runs. mike call me i think i might have an idea on how to keep it free for the whole run. Good run chuck, when you gonna come down and race in springfield with us?

Thanks guys, the 13.5 car was a blast to drive, and while I'll take some of the credit my crew chief also gets alot this weekend for making me keep pushing the envelope on setup. It was good to see Mike in the A where he belongs, and good to know Kevin survived the night. I do have to get down to Springfield, but my travel schedule is a bit jacked up so we'll just have to wait and see. As always Matt and Mark seemed to lead the way us in 4300, although we all got to spend some time scratching our heads this weekend.

For those who might wonder, I was running a black LF, 50/50 gray/silver on the RF, a gray LR, and a black RR. It's slightly psychodic, but we make it work.

PS - Sweden's cold...it must be my payment for going to the Birds...

Just got back into racing after five years off and it's been about ten years since I've raced carpet. I've been running 1/12 onroad and oval for about a month.

I just got an 05 slider and ran it for the first time today at Walt's Hobby in Syracuse, NY. Qualified 3rd and finished 2nd with a qualifying run that would have put me high in the B or at the bottom of the A at a special race last week.

Car ran great all day even though I'm not 100% sure what the setup on it is. I basically left it the way that it was bought. There is a lot of speed left in it. Tried something motorwise the first round and never quite got the gearing right for my good motor. There aren't many Mavericks around here and I almost everyone asked what kind of car it was.

I'm going to have time to go through the car before my next race and had a couple of questions. The track is flat looped carpet that is about as smooth as you are going to find. It has about 110' racing line and probably 65' of that is corner.

If I wanted to put an offset T-Plate in it, can I use any offset plate, or is there a certain one that I have to use? My LHS only carries the KSG one and when I lined it up with the holes on the pod the holes for the pivot balls were about an 1/8" to the left of the offset pivot ball holes in the chassis.

The car I got has offset bearing carriers in it. Do these come with the car? Right now I have the wheelbase set to the longest setting with the carriers set to move the axle forward. This is about equal to the medium wheelbase if the car had standard carriers.

I'm putting a new body on the car and was wondering where I could buy some Maverick stickers, or if anyone knows what font was used for the Maverick logo so I can cut some out.

Thanks!

Hey Haager weclome to the Maverick Nation. I would not off set the pod in anyway for 4 cell stock class, it just makes the car push off the corner. Center t-plate, center pod works great. If your buying a body I would get the Protoform Charger, very good carpet body in stock and 19turn/4300 classes.

The offset bearing carriers, replace them with IRS bearing carrriers. Run the rear pod in the long position and frontend short.

wassup rock?

jake took home the win in 4300 at the birds warm up race. also took home a track record! only 4300 car to ever go 61 laps! wooooooooo

now when i get to the birds i'm confident i will make the C main!

Good run Katfish.
If you go by past years, the 19 turn class was about a lap slower at the Bird than the Greeneville, TN track. Track record in the 4300 BL class at greeneville is 63 4:03. So, to make the A-main at the bird my bet is 61 4:01.....TQ 62 something and I'm sure that will be Frank Ulbrik. I have alot of work to do with my 4300 car.

katf1sh
01-15-2007, 08:26 PM
oh i fully expect a very fast 62 lap run from a couple of those guys at the birds! i hate the birds! lol as you know their is always someone faster!

see you at the birds and all we can do is try our best.

Hey all!

I've been runing my OPC in Spec truck for a few weeks now & doing very well with it.(Gotta love cost controlled racing) Seems I can do no wrong with this car, no matter what I change. It's very forgiving, not to mention fast!

My "home" track (Freddie's Hobbies, Ravena OH) had their 2nd annual Winter Championship Race. I managed the TQ spot by about 1 & 1/2 laps, and won the main, laping everyone but 2nd place, and was only a straight away from getting him. Missed the track record in the 2nd heat by about 1 second (2 seconds in the main), had to let off several times to get thru traffic.

I love this car! Just bought another OPC roller to replace my non-turning brand x chassis for Spec Brushless. Cant wait to get that one goin!

Good luck to all the Maverick Pilots at the 'Birds!

Well I finally scratched that itch this past weekend at the official Birds warm up/ Florida carpet cup race in Largo Fl. Turned my best times and count so far on this surface, Which strangely enough is the same size as Da'Birds. Imagine that? I ran the 05.5 in Pro-Busch(pro stock) and qualified third and finished second. Heres a couple pics of the car as raced.

the trophy table butts! your car fell from your hands and landed on it very hard. wink wink

Oh that table issue? :( I was not a happy camper at that very moment in time. After practicing with a track full of faster class cars for almost 4 minutes and working with everyone of them without so much as a close call, A racer who will remain un named, Throws down a much faster car and proceeds to punt my car off the track into the wall locker at the end of the back stretch at full throttle.

This was after I moved waaaaaay up out of the line as I had with all the other cars on the track at that time because I knew he was coming. It totally destroyed the right front suspension and tweaked the T-plate and pod assembly. Once I took a look at the car while walking from the track I realized that what, Only seconds before was a near perfect working car now needed a lot of work.

I'll admit that I hit the table with the car but I didn't realize at the time that it would send all the neatly lined up trophy's scurrying like the little plastic players on an electric football game. Hollow tables make a big boom too as apparently everyone in the whole place heard it and saw that I was the culprit.

Oh well, The usually mild mannered David Butts has a temper too. I got over it, Worked on the car and made it bettter and got a second out of it. End-O-Story. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
