Remember all those here who said this would never happen, was not going to happen now, it was all hot air rumors, etc?

I sure do, and I think the crow population is going to take a big hit.

:)

Enjoy.

I don't doubt Hot Wheels will roll out Barris Batmobiles, but that pic could easily be a counterfeit.

Not to sidetrack the thread, but has anyone ever sold a resin conversion to make the Futura kit into the Batmobile?

Griffworks

Don't take this as the gospel, but I seem to recall seeing a conversion kit at some point in the past. I might well be wrong, tho. I want to say I saw the ad in FSM some years ago, but can't recall for certain.

I'm sure there were.

Are the other Batmobiles on that page already out?

Further down that page are Wrath of Khan figures. Pretty accurate. Khhhaaaannnnn!!

This is pretty old news for Hobbytalk.

Geoff Boaz
01-06-2007, 02:44 PM
Not really.

The "old" news was the news that it was happening. And that many believed that it would never happen. Months back.

The new "news" is that it's happened. And that there is now a picture to show it has. (1st carded pic that I know of.)

Actually, Skyhook Models made a damn nice resin conversion kit for the Futura. Sadly it's no longer available. Too bad because it was cheap and did a great job of morphing the Futura into the Batmobile.

I will be more than happy to have the die-cast versions, especially the 1/18.

I can't answer your question. However, I'm curious: would you actually prefer a plastic model? Is this about kit collecting?

I've done Hot Wheels conversion work, and it's a lot of fun. Plus, the paint can be baked on the metal parts, for a nice, hard, professional finish.

Yup, we're mainly plastic kit modelers here.

But I like a good die cast of a movie car now and then too.

Me, too. I'll be picking up the '66 as well as the old 70's blue cartoon Batmobile. I got some nice memories in that one as well.

I saw George Barris on Spike TV today. He said it is coming so it must be so. He was standing beside one of the full scale 'models'.

I like to build plastic kits, but I also love to have a beautiful complete replica that I don't have to work on, and that in a lot of cases will look better than something I spent hours working on--I built car kits as my first models as a kid and later abandoned them and military kits for sci fi models. I do sometimes build sci fi car subjects like Nemo's car from League of Extraordinary Gentleman, but in most cases since these beautiful 1/18 die casts are being produced of things like the Batmobiles, the Mach 5, etc., I would rather just buy them and have them--and I can't wait for the big 66 Batmobile.

It takes a lot of time and money to make the dies, punch out the cars, assemble them, paint them, package them and deliver to the wholesalers/retailers. Considering that we saw a picture of a carded example, clearly almost all of these steps have been done and are probably being readied for distribution for sale soon. I'm wait for the 1/18 scale myself.

Geoff Boaz

That wasn't an impression, it was a sound effect for a crow, relating to the all the crow you're eating as of now.

But... I in fact do a few mean impressions, my best are of Barney Rubble, Yogi Bear and the Ardvark from the Ant & the Ardvark 'toon.

How about you? You do any other impressions other than an ostrich?

What is WRONG with you? All anyone has said here, and in the other thread, is that they'd love to have a good Batmobile model. Some have doubted the Mattel ones would actually be made, or if they were, they might be disappointing, as were some previous models.

As for the carded model you showed, it is NO proof. Those who make Hot Wheels customs often put them on contemporaneous-production header cards. And, Hot Wheels has been making other Batmobiles, with header cards featuring the Batman indicia.

If it IS legit, I must say that I am disappointed that Mattel used common five-spoke wheels, instead of prototypically-correct wheels.

They have to use wheels that fit the Hot Wheels track. Their Tumbler only has 2 back wheels for the same reason. {i wish I bought that Tumbler Christmas decoration at Target. It was more accurate.}

Aw, c'mon! The Batmobile wheels could easily be made to fit the track. And, since the Indy car series of 1969, many HWs don't run on any, or all, tracked sets, anyway.

Also, since HW is not using thier trademark redline-style wheel, it is not an issue of brand identity. No, apparently, HW simply didn't want to pay for the special Batwheel tooling, which would only be usable on Batmobiles.

The carded photo is of the one that is due out next month for the general market, so yes: it is a more "generic" '66, with standard wheels, stubbier features, etc.

The Batmobiles (1/64, 1/43, & 1/18) based on the scans taken of the #1 will not hit stores until fall, and are supposed to feature much better detailing and more accurate proportions.

Details are still subject to change, but as of right now that seems to be Mattel's game plan.

Grown men talking about tiny toy cars.

3 steps of discussion.
1.whine that they don't make a replica of something.
2. whine that they now made it, but not perfectly.
3. whine that they don't make it anymore.

Pre-builts.
I have a couple thousand kits to build, I don't mind buying something built once in a while, like an action figure or a die cast car. Saves time. :)

Yep. As a matter of fact somebody did produce a Batmobile resin kit (it's out of production) but the conversion kit is still available. Got 2 of those Batmobiles (1 built the other is not) and a conversion kit for the Futura. But I can't mention the name here , don't want to enable the anti-caster thing again.

Orne Montgomery (Rebellion Creations) is still making his Batura kit, I believe. And I know there's another one out there, I just can't recall the name. I HAVE one and I can't recall the name  Ah middle age.

Yup, and they still do. This used to be Magnetic Models, but they changed their name for some reason. Anyway, these guys have all the stuff you need to convert a Futura into a Batmobile.

Gee I'm REALLY surprised that the anti-caster thing didn't get triggered...

That's where I got my stuff. It's the only Batmobile (if I remember correctly) that actually had a turbine engine under the hood. Here's mine in semi-gloss black version.

I don't know what information you have, but I would expect all the Hot Wheels versions, including the one from the basic line, to feature the correct lines.

For the basic line version, HW should use the prototype batwheels. Or, the original 60s Cragar-style Hot Wheels. With, or without, the red stripe. Any other choice is non-authentic, to me.

Whine THAT.

Turbine engine is under the hood. Mobile Bat-computer is located in the trunk.

This was what I have:

Close enough for a mainline, but not nearly as accurate as it will be once the scanned Batmobile is developed :)
