I'm just getting into HO slot cars, and wondering what basic tune-up or maintenance parts I should purchase to have on hand, related to the cars.

My first cars will be the ones that come with the various Tomy track sets I will be buying, and I am wondering what parts I should get to start filling up this Plano pit box I bought. Replacement tires, shoes, etc.

Where is a good place to go to get a handful of these items?

Are there some special (and hopefully inexpensive) tools I should get?

I'm not looking at doing anything major right of the bat - but just looking to learn more about parts related to the cars, and getting some parts woudl help me learn about them.

Thank you.

Well Scafremon,
First off you'll need some of the the basic stuff. The key here is what chassis you're running. For the most part, they'll all need some or all of the following; pickup shoes, brushes, silicone tires, lube and that's just where it starts. If you want to get really fast, then special wheels, axles, chassis, lexan bodies, balanced arms......

As far as sites, launch Google for HO Slot cars and read away.

I would start with pickup shoes and springs, and also some decent replacement slip on silcone tires. Also find yourself some oil for lubrication. Tools, I find I use my wheel puller and gear press/puller more than anything else in my box, along with my jewelers screwdrivers and a pair of tweezers.

As for where to find them, these should get you going pretty well....

I think that should be a decent start, I will add more as I think about it. Welcome to the hobby!

You'll also want to get yourself a little dremel. They are excellent for cleaning pickup shoes, and come in handy if you need to customize a body, or removing excess plastic on a rim.
Check any home improvement store, one may have a sale on them.
