Has anyone took 22Racer offer on the bulletproof tranny? $25 for a bulletproof tranny sounds good to me. If anyone took his offer please let me know. Or 22Racer if you are still doing it can you please let me know.

TIA,

hydro_gin,
It is a clear Evader ST body from Tower. There are no window masks supplied or overspray film. I bought Duratrax window mask and did it myself and just taped off the outside of the body to prevent any overspray. I used pin stripe to tape off the black area (roof)and paint and then painted the red. Everything else is decals. Did the samething with the Harvick body. They both turned out real nice. This last one is better. They get easier and better with each one.

Aznjunkie - are you thinking about getting a Novak BL??? (if not why would you need a bulletproof tranny?)

azn - i haven't heard anything about 22racers deal except for the one post he put up, and frankly I don't even understand what he means. but it seems like a reasonable pricre and such, if it is nearly as good as the jeprc parts you got the goods.

He takes 2 29 tooth pinions and machines them to take place of the stock plastic idler gear.He also recommends the use of an Associated B3 diff gear and rings.

orbitron - I still want the Novak BL. I don't know if the evader can handle the Novak. If I can make my tranny bulletproof for a reasonable price I would do it. I still want the evader to handle more power. Stock speed is cool, but I rather have raw power if I can get it.

2nd Gear - I can careless if the diff would be any smoother. I want my BL dang it. Call me crazy, creative, or whatever. I will make my evader a BL Evader.

For the record, he email me back. He’s willing to buy everything and ship it to me for $30. Not a bad price IMO.

/me is a dumb arse :p

EDIT: Hydro is that your car. Thing did a flip and landed on all fours. Great vid. Thanks for sharing.

neither one have many at the moment. all that i have ssen are by duratrax. many were thinking that the 3rd party parts would start showing up after the truck has been around a while. but i do not think it will happen, or not to the degree that the losi/ae trucks. the st has more cross over parts noted from the xxt. haven't heard of the bx an xx trade parts, yet. :) but i still like my evader for what it is. a stadium truck.:D

Alot of work and money will go into modding a ST/BX,You have to do your research and make good judgement on what works.I have a RPM gear cover on mine,Which I may be the only one with a RPM gear cover on a Evader.Just use your imagination,You come up with something new.

here is a link to my slipper cover..

Speaking of third-party (non-Duratrax) parts/hop-ups for the Evader, I only knew about JEP's (F/R braces, F. skid) ... then I did a search on Ebay and found someone's making billet hub carriers for the Evader:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3114862346&category=34063

This guy's Ebay ID is "jagaaa" (Mick Jagger fan?) and he apparently makes billet parts for Tmax and RC10's as well.

Some of Dave Crescenzi's RC10GT hop ups might work on an Evader, I'm thinking about his tranny savers and his shock covers. The diff outdrives on the Evader are a little bigger in diameter than the stealth's. Just ordered some and will post if they fit. If not, I think JEP or someone else should make some, doesn't look difficult:

http://www.rc10gthobby.com/tranny_parts.htm

ps. The insane 360 flip video I posted is *not* me. But I wish it was :D

Wow, I'm off the board for a few days and it explodes. Go to the "Let's See Your Rides" post to see where I've been.

Man, Jep R/C rocks. I guess I'm behind the curve in getting his parts, but I put the front brace and bumper in late Friday. Still need to do the tranny brace. Went to the track Sat and let my daughter race the Evader in Novice (and I mean novice). This child's nickname when she was little was "Two Speed", and that's how she drives. The only thing she tore up was a bent hub carrier kingpin, and that happened when she hit the wall at the end of the long straight head on. Without Jep's brace I'd have been re-building the Evader's front end today instead of finishing my RC10GT. That truck went through more abuse in one night than in the year I've been driving it, and it held up. Kudos to Jep R/C.

Well I've busted 5 front hub carriers in the last 2 days racing. Has anyone installed the new aluminum front hub carriers and if you have, what is the next most common thing that breaks? How do you like the aluminum hub carriers?

spreckenzy
02-17-2003, 09:59 AM
i have got the al hub carriers, knuckle arms, and rear hubs. if you are breaking the hub carriers i would get the al. ones and knuckle arms. the next most frequently broken part for me is the front shock tower. I bought a cnced al one from ebay. It stiffened up the suspension and it wont break. if i were you i would get the al front and rear hubs and knuckle arms.

You just have to open the hole on the slipper hub.It is simple. You know what side.Youll need either a set of stock bushings for the slipper or the associated ones it doesnt matter but one stock slipper bushing isnt enough it is to thin by a mm or 2.

Mavrick just use losi xxt front hub carriers they're pretty tough. I don't believe in all that alum. stuff for weight reasons(for racing). Losi front shock tower is one of the only things that is a direct bolt on without drilling.

Mavrick
02-17-2003, 04:07 PM
Thanks guys,

If I use the Losi hub carrier, do I need to do any drilling? I know you do for the arms. Haven't broken any arms yet anyway. Don't care about saving weight (alum), just want it to be a little tougher.

The Classic is a big race, you'd have been hard pressed to keep up. And some of the more uptight racers dislike having to drive around newbies because the stakes are higher than usual... your best bet is club racing. SRS as I remember it was a nice big place, but that was years ago and I haven't been there in a while. But I'm sure they have a novice class if you need it.

When I lived in Phoenix, I raced at a place called R/C Sports Mania. It was in a nasty part of Phoenix, 35th ave between Thomas and Indian School. I've no idea if it's still there. They had a big combination track, a dirt oval with an offroad course inside it.

How do you remove the most inner slipper clutch plate so that the tranny can come free from the motor heatsink?
Thanks.

Hey zoomi welcome to the forum.

As for taking off the inner slipper plate. What I do is use a flat head screw drive. Put it in between the slipper plate and tranny box. Then gently wiggle the slipper plate off.

Thanks aznjunkie.

Is az for Arizona by chance?
I am from Chandler, Arizona.

I tried prying it before but was fear of bending the plate. But with your confirmation, I tried a bit harder and it came right off, thanks.

Now one last thing that holding the tranny together is the spring pin in the top shaft. Is there a trick to remove it or just push it from one end and then pull the rest of the way with needle nose plier?

aznjunkie
02-21-2003, 01:34 AM
No problem. Sorry I don't live in AZ, no where near AZ. Here in FL (Florida).

Here's the meaning of my name. Azn is short for Asian. Junkie, ah cause I'm a junkie :D

As for the pin in the top shaft. You are correct. Just push on one end then use a plier and yank that bad boy out.

Zoomi -

I agree the pin can be pulled out of the topshaft, but I've never had to do that just to pull apart my tranny. The topshaft will separate from the left half of the tranny case if you just tug on the case a bit. If I remember correctly, the topshaft tapers down in diameter and then simply inserts into a bearing (again, on the left side looking from the rear). When you pull, the bearing may come out too, but that's not a problem. Good luck.

Has anyone tried a asc. diff spring? I have losi thrust bearings, asc. diff rings and balls. The only thing I haven't tried is the spring. The Evader diff shouldn't be so rough, I know alot of people complain about it, it's my newest mission I guess. (will it actually make someone go faster, probably not)Any Ideas?

I have used the Losi thrust bearing as well.I dont think the Assoc. diff spring is going to fix the notchiness. Most of the time when you feel your diff being notchy it is thr thrust bearing not the acctual diff rings. On my next rebuild I will "try" the assoc. diff spring.Id bet it "could" be softer by a tad and make tuning the diff easier maybe. This is one of those things where it sounds like a good idea but you have to keep your fingers crossed.
Ive found normally when you change something on the Evader with another manufacturer it seems to do better.

If you are referring to the Scottsdale R/C Speedway, then I live about 15 miles away in Chandler. I tried to make time to go there to watch and practice because it has the only dirt track that I am aware of.

To other: Thanks for the help with openning the tranny. I finally got it open by pulling the spring pin out but it is good to know that I do not have to do that the next time. The good news was all the gears and balls are in good working order.

Next: Any suggestion for rebuilding and tuning the shocks. Oil weight? Mounting positions(lots of holes to choose)? Where to set the spring collars? The car seems to be bouncy at the rear and somewhat nose first on landing.

Thanks.

for my set up i adjust the shock collars so that when i push the truck down all the way and release the suspension arms are paralell to the surface of the groun/table.

as for the nose diveing stay on the throttle in the air this will heip. if it doesnt move the battery to the rear postion by removing the foam block and putting it toward the front of the car.

Z -

I'm running the softer white springs w. 30 wt (the stock is 20 I believe). I've heard of some using 32.5 wt in the fronts. I've also shifted the battery towards the rear. All this seems to be a popular setup to get the nose up and make the truck less bouncy.

During the early days of this thread (1,000 posts ago?), there was a parallel thread that split off from this one called "Jerrits Evader ST FAQ". The info on shocks and other stuff is in there:

http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28696

There, you will also see the beginnings of JEP's popular braces.

ps. Ugh, bent a shock shaft this morning on a bad landing. Gotta go scrounge some shock oil.
