View Full Version : Dirt oval in West Michigan
Duke Bradshaw 01-02-2007, 09:48 PM Any one up for dirt oval in West Michigan?
Proscale R/C Raceplex is the place.
Located 3 mi. east of the Lakes Mall at 4405 E. Sternberg RD
Fruitport, MI 49415
The track is a baby smooth clay oval, 220' racing line and slightly banked.
The drivers stand is 7' high and we have the AMB R/C system this year for scoring. We ran a Trophy race under the lights that turned out awsome and will be doing more of that!
The classes that we have been running are 1/10 scale,
Nitro Stadium Truck
Nitro Sprint car
Nitro 4 wheel drive Outlaw Late Model (the most popular at this time)
I will be posting race dates and pics soon!
Duke Bradshaw,
Proscale R/C.
one18thscalerac 01-03-2007, 02:56 PM sounds great im packing now
KevinBahr 01-09-2007, 08:47 PM Duke,
When you racing? Is Randy Erb still racing with you there? I used to race with him doing 1/4 scales
Randy Erb 01-11-2007, 11:23 PM Hi Kevin
I'm Still Kickin
Duke Bradshaw 01-17-2007, 09:49 PM Kevin,
Not only is he still kickin... he is the Man to beat, period!!! I don't know anyone who can beat him on the oval and one of the best guys you could ever race with.
Duke
KevinBahr 01-20-2007, 06:07 PM Duke,
could i come out and check the track out sometime?
Kevin
Duke Bradshaw 01-28-2007, 08:18 PM Yes!!! please do! Feel free. I's under snow now but you can get the idea on the size and shape. This oval is sweet. Nothing more fun than oval racing period!!!
Duke.
smitymike11 01-29-2007, 02:18 PM What chassis are you guys running there? I am thinking about buying one to race there. I was out there once during the summer, I ran my LST2 on the off road track, and saw the dirt oval and thought it looked fun. I do have a XXX-NT that I could convert but where do I get the parts or a good car? I would be willing to buy a used one if the price is right.
Duke Bradshaw 02-05-2007, 09:47 PM A xxx-nt will work great on the oval, some adjustments to the shocks, maybe a spring change and a taped pair of Proline or Losi step pins rear tires is all you need. We have about 7 guys running Nitro Truck Oval and are looking for more. It is a hoot running on the oval, nothing like it!!! Our largest class on the oval is 4WD Outlaw Late Model, we take Associated NTC3'3 shaft drive on road cars, make a spring change, some minor adjustments, foam tires and add one Late Model body from McAllister (which are sweet by the way) put what we call a fence down the left side of the car and hang on!
I have several NTC3's for sale, (new or used) several bodys and parts to get you up and going on the dirt. The NTC3's are bullit proof, are a blast to drive and do not cost alot to get into.
Give me a call If you want to talk in more detail. Cell 750-1181. After 4pm.
Thanks,
Duke.
Duke Bradshaw 02-05-2007, 09:58 PM Randy Erb,
Would you like to add anything that I might have left out.
To All:
Randy is our Resident Dirt Oval Expert, the guy we go to for help in getting the cars to hook up better and the guy we are all trying to beat!
Duke.
smitymike11 02-07-2007, 08:51 PM What are you allowing on the trucks? Can I run oval shock towers? What bodies could I run? Aer foam tires allowed? What can't I run?
Duke Bradshaw 02-08-2007, 07:54 PM To keep the cost down we have been running the trucks stock with step pin tires (they work the best on the 2WD trucks) and on the 4WD Late Models we run foams they hook up well but you can run HPI rally type tires on them also. The 4WD cars are very forgiving.
Duke. We tried to run foams on several 2WD's but they don't hook up on the clay.
sheldon 525 02-09-2007, 10:29 PM who is this randy erb guy anyway . i will call tony stewart with his custom works cars and come whip his butt .lol.is this that oval that erb is always trying to get us to go there with are losi trucks and kline nitro sprints what about the big hpi baja5b 1/5 scale buggy do you guys run these there need to rip this thing up and my brushless mini T.AND LOSI ADAM DRAKE.WHATS UP RANDY.can you turn up the heat please and melt the snow
Randy Erb 02-10-2007, 04:21 PM Hi Harry
Just six more weeks and the dirt will be flying. You need to ad a nitro tc-3 to your fleet. All is needed is a Mcallister body w/side dam, single speed conversion, set of foam tires, 26/50 gears and hang on. The track has a 225 ft drive line and we are getting around it in the high 5 second range sideways. As much as I love racing quarter scales, this is just as much fun.
You will have to come up and let you pilot one of these rockets. And we need more sprinters as well.
Talk to you later
Randy  :dude:

curt garrett 02-11-2007, 08:38 PM Do you guys race every weekend in the summer?
Randy Erb 02-11-2007, 08:57 PM Hi Curt
Last year we run every other week end, but I think we will have more events this year. The schedule is being worked on and should be completed in a couple weeks. Keep in touch!!!!!
Thank-you
Randy
Randy Erb 02-11-2007, 09:13 PM Hi Harry
There will be two classes of late model. One will be standard ntc-3 with ready to run .15 or any 3 port .12. The other class will be outlaw class where you can run a wider and longer wheel base car with any small block. Sprint cars will be any rtr .15 or any 3 port .12. We have bodies, tires, side dams, single speed conversions. If you want a car, give me a call at 231-834-7707 after 5 pm. Between Duke and I , we have about a dozen cars, so one of us can get rid of one. Give me a call some time this week cause this is way to much chicken plucking for me on this key board. Talk to you later
Randy
smitymike11 02-12-2007, 03:15 PM Why don't you guys run Elect.? You could allow brushless to run with the Nitro. Aso why don't you guys run the Modifieds or a open outlaw class where anything goes. I have the XXX-NT but wanted to make it more oval friendly, I was thinking about the oval shock towers, the slipper elimanator and the Factory Works Probe body but there would be no class for it. If you run Elect. you could cut the cost that way with a stock motor class, I can get elect. mods for cheep. I have been offered some on here for $150 and cannot find a nitro car under $300.
Randy Erb 02-12-2007, 08:25 PM Hi
I would love to run electric. I have a fleet of electric dominators, intimidators, enforcers, trucks ect. Duke an I both have them. We run 4.5 in our dominators, and its a blast. We just need the electric guys to show, and we will run them. As for your xxxnt, if you want to convert it to a all out oval truck, bring it out, we won't turn anybody down to race. We just need more guys who want to run that class. The more exposure of that style truck is what we need. Most of the guys that run oval truck can just use their offroad truck and don't need two of them. Just come on out and have fun!!!!!.
That is what it is all about
Stay in touch!!!!!!!!
Thank-you
Randy
smitymike11 02-13-2007, 12:30 PM Cool. I will try to make it out there when you guys start racing. I am not sure what all I will do to the truck, might just run it as is to check things out at first but I never know. I don't work in the winter so I never know what I will be doing, if I have the time and money I might do a couple of thing to my truck and let people see how much of a difference it makes. Sounds like fun.
Duke Bradshaw 02-14-2007, 09:11 PM Harry,
You will wan't to run a shaft drive car for the oval. The belt drive cars do not like the clay at all, it gets in to the teeth on the pully's then the belts get so tight that the cars won't roll, every things all bound up.
Like Randy said get a TC3 and hang on, I don't think there is any thing more fun on the oval! We are running .12's on the oval by the way. We are running the Pro Series rules pretty much.
Duke
Duke Bradshaw 02-14-2007, 09:32 PM smitymike11,
Give me a call, I might be able to point you in the right direction on what you wan't to do with an oval nitro truck. Cell 750-1181. Call any time. If I can't help' a friend of mine who is a Losi guy can for sure.
You let all the electric guys you know we have a great place for them to race. Not to mention a awsome off road too!
We have added the AMB RC transponder and Lapsfree scoreing system for this year, should be an awsome season. We will have at least 4 trophy races, night races and a couple pay back races also.
Like I said call me, we are in the same town. We will be having a RC night comming up in my RC shop in the next couple weeks, it will be on a saturday night, you should come.
Duke
sheldon 525 02-14-2007, 11:17 PM duke or randy how much for car ready to go body spoilers engine dont matter i have lots of new motors but if one comes with it thats cool is single speed like the ones that came with some of the tc3s or different do you have any new cars ready to go or used ones may bee you can give me different prices for each thanks harry. you can email me so you dont have to say prices on here. beerman525@sbcglobal.net email me thanks.duke or randy
smitymike11 02-15-2007, 11:26 AM Duke what rc shop are you talking about, do you own one? Who owns the track and does all the maintence on it? What is the rc night? I don't really like talking on the phone to much thats why I ask here.
Fred Knapp 02-21-2007, 10:22 AM Hey Randy,
Whats up my friend? This sounds like loads of fun.
Andrew and I are thinking of couming out this summer.
All we have at the moment are TC3's to works with.
-Fred Knapp
Randy Erb 02-22-2007, 07:05 PM Hi Fred
Yes you will have to come out. If the electric tc3's run any thing close to the ntc3's you will have a blast. I was thinking of getting one to see how they compare to our dominators. The tracks lanes are 18 ft wide so there is side by side racing, slide jobs, ect. So bring some friends along, come out and we will have a blast. Keep in touch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Randy
curt garrett 02-23-2007, 11:45 AM So will my xxx-nt with an .18 be illegal for the oval truck class or the off road? Also, what does the off road look like? Will there be any trophy races for it? Is it loose dirt or clay? I mostly run off road but thinking about trying the oval.
Duke Bradshaw 02-24-2007, 10:23 AM Curt,
Loose dirt and some clay here and there mixed in with it. We will be adding more clay to it in some places. Clay/dirt mix has it's good and bad points you need to becareful where you put it. We have a sprinkler system to keep the track damp it works sweet!
Lots of traction.
The track is fast, not a ton of jumps but we are adding some. We will keep it more on the fast side than the " To many jumps, to hard to drive" side it's more fun that way, who wants to go slow any way!
As for the .18 engine, we do not have a truck class for that engine on the oval or off road at this time, with that said, I will add that we would not turn anyone away if thats what they are running for the first few races. I have many new and used engines for sale and I don't sell junk.
We will have at least 5 trophy races this year. We ran a oval night race at that one and it was awesome, under the lights, it's like your on another planet. We will be running several classes on the oval, nitro and electric! YES, you should try it!
Duke
bustedparts 02-24-2007, 06:42 PM Sup duke.Is there got to be any 1/5 scle races on the offroad? There's 12 of us now. That should make a good race!
Duke Bradshaw 02-25-2007, 06:40 PM Busted,
That would be awesome to have 12 1/5 guys show up to race. Have you been to my track? I have been thinking about it and I would like to talk to the group of guys that have them. At this point it is NOT out of the question that we will have 1/5 races out here. I think they are sweet and they put on a good show.
Lets talk more about this!
Duke.
bustedparts 02-25-2007, 08:09 PM Yha I have been to the track befor.Quite a few times as a matter of fact.I had to see all my rc stuff to buy a house.Well the house thing is done so I am back in!Can you guess who I am? I cant wait for the weather to break!!
Fred Knapp 02-27-2007, 12:02 PM Yha I have been to the track befor.Quite a few times as a matter of fact.I had to see all my rc stuff to buy a house.Well the house thing is done so I am back in!Can you guess who I am? I cant wait for the weather to break!!
Rich Winkleman?
02CooperS 02-27-2007, 01:33 PM I'd be another guy looking to run some electric as well. I have a Trinity Reflex and Cobra Nemisis Sprint car converted over to late model that have been sitting in a box in the basement for way too many years now. What kind of tires would you run on the electric 2wd late models? Can you get away with foams? Keep us posted on dates.
Andy
Randy Erb 02-27-2007, 08:32 PM Hi Andy
You need to turn that nemisis back into a sprinter and run the reflex as a late model. I would like to run my electic cars also. I have an intimidator and enforcer I would like to blow the dust off of. As far as tires, I know step pins work, but at night when the moisture comes up out of the track, and the nitro late models with the foam tires run, the track gets a groove and gets tacky and we need a little more time on the two wheel drive cars to see if there is a better choice. I would like to see you come out. Keep in touch
Randy
Scott b#111 02-27-2007, 09:00 PM what day or night do you run dirt oval on I have sprint that's in need of some dirt on it I like to play in the dirt too
Duke Bradshaw 02-28-2007, 07:11 PM Most of the Oval races will be in the late afternoon to dark. The track is the best later on in the day. Racing at night under the lights is a rush! It spoils ya! Also most of the races will be saturday. I plan on have a couple of special "Friday Night under the Lights" cash pay out races, at least two of these to see how this would go over with the oval guys.
What do ya think! (Feed back on this please!)
Duke.
Scott b#111 02-28-2007, 09:06 PM I like saturday night races under light friday would be hard to make. I got two sprint cars and a east coast mod with truck tires on it. just looking for fun this summer will have to make the trip up to see
Duke Bradshaw 02-28-2007, 09:30 PM Most will be Saturday races. Where are you comming from. We will start the oval racing around 5pm or so, after the off road is done. It's quite a day if you run both tracks. You never run out of fun out here.
Duke
Scott b#111 03-01-2007, 05:23 AM I would be coming from hartford, MI. Its only about a hourand ahalf to you give or take. I don't have any off road stuff right now, may get new some time but for now just looking for ovals to run on. When will you open for testing, as soon as the weather clears up? I will keep looking on her to see I cant wait to sling dirt agin, and may have other racers come with if I can pull them from work. lol.
curt garrett 03-01-2007, 02:02 PM My racing buddy works 2nd shift so both races on SAT. would work out very well for us. Is there any electricity for soldering and charging ?
Duke Bradshaw 03-01-2007, 07:04 PM Curt,
We have electric and are in the process of up grading it as well. The rain this spring will decide when we will start running. I'm hopefull it will be the first of May. We are talking oval. The off road will start the middle of April.
Duke.
Scott b#111 03-01-2007, 08:02 PM will we be able to test and tune if the rain is not to bad I need to get my cars back to dirt ready they have been indoor to long
sheldon 525 03-01-2007, 08:46 PM duke whats up with car i wanted price with servos installed everthing set up ready to go with out motor but i havent heard back from you or randy thanks HARRY SHELDON
GrandRiverNitro 03-01-2007, 09:15 PM What do guys think of a Nitro 4tec 3.3 running dirt oval. I have the terre haute late model bodies getting ready to paint right now.
Randy Erb 03-02-2007, 08:14 PM duke whats up with car i wanted price with servos installed everthing set up ready to go with out motor but i havent heard back from you or randy thanks HARRY SHELDON
For the third time, CALL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
231-834-7707 Or e-mail me your ph #
Randy
Duke Bradshaw 03-04-2007, 12:29 PM Harry I sent you a e-mail on the cost of the Late Model.
Duke.
Duke Bradshaw 03-04-2007, 12:34 PM Grandriver,
You could run the car in the Late Model Open class, any chassis, any engine!
The Late Model Stock class is OEM chassis and .12 size and 3 port engines only.
Duke.
smitymike11 03-06-2007, 09:30 PM I am getting my XXX-NT readt for the Oval. I have a oval track shock tower for the rear and some TC3 shocks on the way. What rules are there for the Stadium Truck class, mostly motor size? I have the RTR with the .15 in it. Also what classes do you run on the off road? I might have to get my LST2 ready for that.
Duke Bradshaw 03-07-2007, 08:50 PM All the guys are running OEM shocks and towers right now but I would like to see some trucks come out with an oval conversion like you are talking about. We would like to see a stock OEM class (like we have now) and an all out oval, after mkt. oval truck body the works type class. You bring it, we'll run it! RTR .15 is fine. If it's an RTR OEM engine.
Off road, talking the nitro class, 1/10 truck, 1/8 buggy, Truggy, and Monster Trucks!
Electrics on the off road, TBD. Have only had 2 show up. Gave the nitro boys and girls a run for their money, I was great!
Duke
