Tim Mc 02-21-2007, 01:05 PM I was concerned about the stockcar chassis handling on dirt. Sounds like they do pretty good.
I spent several years racing dirt in full sized cars. No matter what you do there is no way to stop dust from building up and getting into the air flow system. We built shaker screens for the front, filter boxes for the air intake....ect. If you race dirt this is something you learn to deal with.
Todays g/n bodies would need to go under the knife (lexan scissors). I think they could still be used. Cut out the back & windows except the front. Put 'em on a diet!...lol.
big maestro 02-21-2007, 03:28 PM I race full size dirt cars now. We dont have a dust problem at all, we do have to deal with mud for sure. As far as dust I know you have some dust but it should'nt be to the piont as to cause a problem. Put a outerwear on the pull start and air filter and your problem areas are fixed. The mud biuld up is a different story. I use babyoil to coat inside the body and rollcage of the full size car so it does'nt stick as easy. It will build up but not like it would if you did'nt use anything. If the cars would handle in there current design then I would be happy to run a wedge style car class. Any chance of an exibition race during this nationals at shaffer? :)
Man I would love to run dirt late models, I drove full size dirt late models for years. almost finished with one sprint building a few sets of aluminum wings now waiting on the second Pro 1 car for my son. cant wait til April to run on dirt! :) Tony
IN2RACIN 02-21-2007, 04:44 PM Sorry, This race is for Sprint cars only. However, I don't see a problem (IF we have time) letting some Late Models turn some practice laps on Friday.
I run outwears over top of my Amsoil POD foam (lightly oiled) Air filter. I also run a full length belly pan, and full length side panels too. You gotta keep the dust / dirt off of the top of the carbs. It will bind up otherwise.
Last year at the other track, If you didn't run a outwear cover you needed to clean or replace your air filter every run. We ran pattie hoes at first, but then switched to the outwears. Much better.
sprint2b 02-21-2007, 05:22 PM Where do you get the outerware for over the pull cord? I'm with ya TM I could get into running lates if we can comeup with some kool bodies. You could count my Big boss in on them also. I seen those in austrailia and they look like they have trouble hooking them up. It might be the sedan body that aint producing any down force..

Sprint,
I have one but I can only get it to play on my work laptop. On my home pc there is no sound with the video. I would like to have a copy that can be played on any DVD player.
Thanks,
Tim

sprint2b 02-23-2007, 10:26 PM Belf28 I have a WCM sprint what all must be changed to lay the motors over like you did in your sprint??
Belf28 02-23-2007, 10:36 PM hey sprint2b ...i mount my motor with mounts that are upright, not to a motor plate on the bottom of the car, im sure someone makes mounts that could be used with the motor plate thats welded in your car maybe cat5 mounts?

Sonny B 02-25-2007, 11:14 PM hehe ...you never know lol ,good job down the snow birds sonny i heard your name alot on the webcast
Thanks I have a good time helping Doc out with the radio show. Just about ready for the Indoor season to be over. Can't wait to go play with the big cars again.
big maestro 02-25-2007, 11:26 PM Jamie, cars lookin good. I can't wait to get mine. :) I like seeing the jacobs ladder in there. They havent had them on sprinters for sometime now. I still love those red hiems though. I wonder if anyone has any that are not aluminum but are different colors. Oh well keep up the good work can't wait to see that thing in final powder and paint.
Belf28 02-25-2007, 11:34 PM im leaning toward flouresent orange chassis with a silver body with orange graphics i think lol
big maestro 02-25-2007, 11:42 PM No man, flourescent green :p You can't go wrong with any flour. colors. I wish they still had the chrome plastic wheels. I don't know why they don't have them anymore, especially for the sprinters. How many sprintcars have you seen in real life with black wheels? Anyway they would be cool on the sprint cars but I guess we will have to imagine them.
Tim Mc 02-26-2007, 07:35 AM I like the chrome wheels myself. My wife tells me I live in the past. Moma don't take my coated chrome away!!! :)
big maestro 02-26-2007, 06:20 PM Nothing wrong with living in the past. My wife says the same thing. Those were good times. If you did'nt have anything to look back on then you would really have issues.
I just dont understand why they can chrome them anymore. It can't be that much money to get them chromed. I just think the sprinters would look ALOT more realistic if they had them.
IN2RACIN 02-26-2007, 06:46 PM Hi big maestro- Are you heading North in May for the QSAC Sprint Dirt National?
Scott
big maestro 02-26-2007, 09:53 PM Unless something like a hurricane or tornado just sweeps me away I'll be there. :) I called jim about a car, he said he would have some this month coming up. So I am buying servo's and stuff for it so i'll have it when it gets here. I'm getting the new tires from Todd when he gets them ready. I am really excited but I don't know what to expect because it will be the first time I ever run a sprinter on dirt.

U will LOVE it. With a Pro-1 U will not have any problems beleve me.That's a GREAT car...
Never used Toddd's new tiers but the street tred worked at Naugles just fine. Make the chassis as free as U can and hang on...Scott will help U not a better set up man around..
big maestro 02-27-2007, 02:07 PM I'm sure it will be a blast.
On another subject. We were talking about chrome wheels. If I could get some chromed who would get some. I am not looking to make any money just want to get an avenue for people to get them if they want to. I talked to a company that is really sure they could do them but he wants to see a wheel first to test them to see if the chrome will not have a reaction to the plastic.
Give me an idea of how many you would want and tell all your friends. I may just try to hook todd up with them to see if he can just start offering chrome wheels, so I dont have to buy 200 halves and then sell them to people that have to send them to todd for tires.
I just want the option I dont know about everyone else.
What do you think? All ideas please. I know I havent thought of everything.
Belf28 02-27-2007, 02:33 PM im planning on running wheel covers like a real dirt car on the right side anyway but i like the chrome idea also
fish4check 02-27-2007, 02:35 PM I don't even have my cars ordered yet. LOL.. But I'm in. And I'm sure other's here at Timberline would be too.
I'm thinking Pro1 and Todd are going to be busier soon!!!
We have a big race here at T-line May 18th-19th that was scheduled last November. I looked at changing the dates so I could come to the Dirt Nats. The race is a 2 day, two different track race. The other track cant change there date. SOOO, I will be at the 2nd annual Dirt Nats. Race, in 08.
big maestro 02-27-2007, 02:44 PM Yea, there going to be really busy here in a few weeks.
I'm going to call todd and see what he thinks about the wheels.
Belf28 02-27-2007, 03:02 PM has anyone ran the top wing mounted to the car with bolts and brackets instead of velcro.
im sure if you flipped it would wreck the wing but im just not keen on the velcro deal what you guys think ?
IN2RACIN 02-27-2007, 03:15 PM Belf28 - Velco is plenty strong enough to hold the top wing in place.
Alloyparts 02-27-2007, 03:17 PM I would not bolt my wing to my car, if you use the 3m plastic lock it will not come off the car.
Alloy :)
Alloyparts 02-27-2007, 03:19 PM Guy's if you have not done so yet, I would look into hotel's.
My dad called to reserve our rooms today and the one is all booked out.
I will double check with him which one it was and which one we are staying at and post it here later.
See you all at the track
Alloy
