View Full Version : A G-Plus question....

An older gentlemen who hangs out at my local hobby store found out i was into HO slots and brought a box of G-Plus stuff in for me to look at as he isnt into slot anymore...

In the box was:

A nice little pit box with some killer stickers all over it...containing several bodies and a couple complete cars...

A red cam-am #2 on a chassis (yellow rims) with a small HEIJER sticker on it and a spare body...

A 6 wheel ELF FI on a chassis tires intact ,and with black rears..

A blue oscar track cleaner #54 that seems to be seized up...

A red and white "good year" #6 body intect with tall mirrors and yellow windshield...

A multi colored "auto world" can-am #6 ,body intact ,with chrome roll bar and driver head...

And a parts "bin box" containing:

Springs

Shoes

Brushes

A couple green armatures

13 bare chassis that look "new" to me...

3- G-Plus tune up kits still in the blister pack

1- set of "rare earth" magnets, still in blister pack...(and I'm pretty sure the chassis in the above cars have them allready installed...)

A couple of broken chassis and some other Mics. parts...

I asked him what he wanted for the lot...and he said 30 bucks....

I bought it right there...and gave the hobby store owner 6 bucks for "shipping and handling" *snicker*

I told him it seemed kinda "cheap" of me to take him up on the offer...

He said he wasnt really concerned about the money...but wanted to get the stuff to someone who would use and enjoy it...

That leads to the question....

What the hell am I going to do with this stuff??

I have two G-plus cars I bought on my second purchase as I didnt read the ad carefully and thought they were (super) G-plus cars...

They are dogs....but I'm sure it is only for lack of a tune up...they seem to run good RPMs but jerk alot ,dont run smooth ,and slip slide like x-tracks...

I run them once and a while so they dont get lonely.....LOL...

The white can-am seems mint...as does the Good year Indy car body...

But the red can-ams I think where his favorite runners...they both have a ton of rubber underneath and some obvious heat coloration as well...and the air scoops are damaged...

Now they guy in question is no low rent guy....his current love is RC choppers....so I'm sure he didnt scrimp on parts and had some great running cars...( I cant test them yet as my track space is "in use" for no track storage of ...*ick*...furniture of all things...)

Should I try my hand at building up a couple chassis and maybe ruin them as I know squat about tuning...or should I find someone to build a couple for me out of the parts I have?

it sounds like you git one heck of a good deal there. I would sell off what you donpt want one ebay. I LOVE AFX Gplus chassis. Fast and sticky, but you still can get some drift out of them

the original Gplus cars are fun to run, but they are in a racing class all by themselves. just run them against each other. and keep them.

I'd like to buy the blue Oscar from you.

Those G+ cars probably need new comm brushes and springs, and a good lubing of the arm shaft and axles.

The Oscar is probably not locked up...
If I am not mistaken they have worm gear drive.
And because of this you cannot turn the wheels by hand...

ah...ok...that would explain it...

I didnt try and crank it or anything...just fiddled with it last night...

The wife makes custom draperies and slip covers and works from home (thus my loss of the basement)...but she has no jobs going out this weekend...so I'm going to commondeer the 9x5 cutting table (built on MY pool table no less) and set up a track for the holiday....my excuse?..."honey...I bought Megan a slot car and I'm sure she will want to play with it..."

LOL.....so I'll give the cars an oil and try them out....I hope the oscar works...

I'll need to order some cleaning fluid from somewhere unless someone knows of a good subsitute..

THANKS!

Well...I ran the oscar...needs tires...but it runs great...

The Red can-am ferrari screams....needs tires badly....it must have a set of the rare earth magnets as well....as it sticks way better than the stock G+ cars I have...

Love the TJ 500's I got....way fast....freakishly fast from the TJ I allready had...a hug improvement over the JL stuff..

Love the AW X-track challenger....again...WAY fast...much faster that the JL x-tracks I have...

But the tires all suck....I must add..not all.....the stock AW X-track tires are way better than the stock AW JL 500 tires...

TIRES.....dont go racin without them...

So....I will follow through with a commitment to buy some track....will hold a few bucks for scafremon if he wants to off his SG+ cars...will scrape a few bucks for doubledeuce's SG+ cars...

and I need tires....alot of them....I just went though my cars and almost every front set is dry rotted...shew....who said HO was cheap

hehehe...

I prefer Gplus to all others, if you want to swap them for something else drop me a line. I find a well tuned gplus is just about perfect for racing. not as fast as some, not as stickey as others but quick enough to make you think about how hard you lean into the trigger..lol...I also have a boat load of tires..lol...

I'll think about it coach....but after seeing them run in good tune...and see them stick as good as the SG+ with those after market Mags...I will most likely hang on to them...

Dave......

When I was a kid and they came out,I thought they were the greatest thing in the world.

This evening,I pulled a few out of my box.Changed some brushes, trued a few coms, added some sponge sillys, and so on.

Man,they ARE a blast to drive!!!!!!!!!Awesome speed, and a bit of a challenge to drive. I just wish that there was a good source for the parts and chassis.Or am I looking in the wrong place?????

If someone(like TL) was going to repro a chassis from the old days, and some of the bodies,I would vote for the Gplus.
Man,some of those cool old Indy type cars. And I LOVE the Ferrari Daytona.

Gentlemen

May I just add that G plus are not so common this side of the pond but the few that I have in my collection are the ones I use the most. I just clean, lube and thrash them. I can even keep up with my slower Tomy turbo chassis when number two son having a bad day ! I will add that silicones are better than the stock sponge rears though.

Tubtrack sells parts lots now ands then a mismasg of gplus parts for around 30 bucks. I have bought a couple of those and I scored a huge gplus lot last fall that will keep me rolling for many years to come. ( Expecially the way my TM uses the track as storage while she "Paints" the house.) You just have to keep your eyes open for them..
