I wanted to start a disscusion on 10th scale car weight. I have a ksg gen 2 and for the life of me cant figure where the extra weight is at. It currently weighs 41oz race ready(stock or 19 turn). Im running a jr 4735 servo,rs310 reciever, quantum 2 speedo. I scaled my body and wing and got 5 oz. My 4735 servo weighs 1.8 oz. Was thinking if I should go micro and cut that in half? My buddy as to add weight to his Silva(2.0 oz) in the day I had to as well not no more lol.Any Tips would be helpful thanks Tim

One thing that gets over looked is tires.
And Servo, large shock addeds to car weight.

Also, use aluminum screws where you can.

Hope this helps.

Slidders tend to be on the heavier side. Also body and wing seem on the heavy side.Check an unpainted bodies weight to compare. Tires and wheels tend to be overlooked especially if you compare pinks and purlples to white/grey/black foam.

Just my $.02

Thanks where should the body and wing scale too. Also I read the specs on a 9650 servo to be under a oz weight my 4750 scaled at 1.6 oz

I really don't think weight matters, My MOD car weighs 47oz. and when i run stock with big tires it weighs about the same and i have a track record with that weight, So i really dont think it matters..

My body, wing combo weighs 4.5 oz. Your servo is a lot of it. Also, the wires from the speedo are heavy if they are too long. What do you have for a bumper? That is a heavy car anyway, but you should be able to get it under 40 oz easy.
My leading edge car with the brushless setup in it is only 38.5 oz race ready.
Also tire size is huge. I run my tires around 2.20 (BSR's)

As stated the servo is probably the biggest bang for your buck... the GEN 2 I would imagine has some extra weigt because of the front end locators.. that Adds the loacatos and a bunch of extra screws.. then the center shock mount probably has a little wieght to it as well...I cant recall but I think they still use the alum ones>>> personally I like running the darkside center mount.. it weighs nothing.. Then tire size as stated... and how much paint is on the body/how the wing is mounted..

My old custom works car was a sled.. I seem to recall the tech guy at birds laughing at me when I first scaled it... I remember cutting a ton of weight from it after round 1.. I went to mostly alum screws..and where there were steel screws>>>like on the t-plate>> I cut the screws so that they were JUST long enough>>box stock they were waayyy longer than necessary. then I cut the tires down to nothinggot rid of all unnecessary washers and heavy stuff.. Had I switched servos my weight would have been perfect...But my insistance on running my 9550 on that car kept the car about 1/2 oz heavy.. but WAAAYYYY lighter than it was when I first teched..

I have been running my KSG gen 2 box stock with all the steel screws, wing, 9650 servo, Novak GTX speedo, Airtronics reciever, 5 cell reciever pack, 2.20 ish BSR tires and have to add 1/2 oz of lead to make 40 oz's. I do run a one color body which I thinks helps a ton over some of you guys that run a cool looking body, but it weighs 2 oz more the one color body.

Cool I run hardly any steel screws and just enough wire on speedo to what is needed. I run my tires no taller than a 2.25 (new). My rs300(receiver) and 4750 (servo) combine for about 2.5 oz. If I cut a half ounce off my body and 1 oz with smaller servo/reciever I wil be at 39.50 oz race ready that will be cool.

The weight really doesn't matter much. There are probably more productive things to worry about.

I used to worry about the weight issue, but realizing after lots of attempts to make my car lighter that I saw NO performance gains on the track I really dont think it matters much.

I was at the Velodrome once and took 2 ouncs of lead off my car after I was 3 ounces over (due to the big tires) and I went 3 secs slower changing nothing other than that. If your within 1-2 oz I wouldnt worry about it. If your like 5 over then it might make a diff. The only time I've noticed weight being an issue reallyis when forgetting to tech my car and having to throw on 2.5 oz on before the first qualifier LOL. As long as your tuning around a certain weight you should be fine, having to add a ton of weight at a moments notice is what can screw you up.
