I blew my old 12 hp briggs and bought a used one in decent condition as a replacement (289707). My old one had only one wire (my research tells me it was DC only?) coming from the harness. The new engine has one wire that looks like it wold connect to this old wire but it also has 2 wires coming from under he flywheel. Stator I assume. From what I've read I should have one or the other connections but not both, is this right? and should I be ok just connecting the small one black DC only wire and leavin gthe others unconnected? Also not connecting either of these- would it stop my starter from tunring?

the stator is for charging and lighting becarefull not to hock the wrong wire to it or you could melt it. leavin it un hooked wont efect the engine running just the charging system. if you want it to charge properly we need to know what type of tractor you have so we could help you could hook it up correctly.

I thinnk I have the stator firgured out thanks to another post an an alternator diagram. New question. Does the mag. need to be connected to the governor or grounded anywhere?

if the mag. has a ground option, or the previous one was grounded, i would, but it doesn't have to be connected to the gov.
