View Full Version : Santa Clause Arrived Early

My new track arrived today.

For different reasons I chose an Artin two lane (w/Stockers). It came with the lap counter. The main reason was price because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the track and didn't want to invest much at least at first. I have been known to sink many $$$ into hobbies in the past.

Well, so far I think it is great. The kids love it. I am sure I will be expanding and upgrading as time (and budget) allows.

The set didn't come with any documentation but it was easy to figure out.

Now I have a couple of questions:

Is there anything I need to do to "break in" the cars just out of the box? Is there any "tuning" I can do/need to do? They seem to run great as long as I don't "hammer down" the throttle. Any tips for keeping them grounded? The kids get excited on the gas.

What would be the next logical step to upgrading this setup?

Thanks to those who posted in my other thread with all the great info!

Charles

I know some guys who swear by Artin track even if they don't like the cars. You might be dissatisfied with how the cars perform on any other track, but you can just get more cars later. Long as you guys have fun, that's what matters.

You should take out the rear axle, oil the motor, put onr com drop on the com,the break in the motor at 3v for 4-5 hours without the rear axle installed. You can help the handling by truing the tyres, and adding a thin bar mag infront of the motor.

Thanks for the info. I worked on truing the tires. It has helped a lot.

Are there any sites that explain the rest of that in detail? Thanks again!

Have you ever checked out Harry's Pit Road (http://www.homeracingworld.com/pitrow.htm)

He has a lot of good information about tune ups & upgrades.

The Artin 1/32 sets are great!
The only thing I would do to the cars is true the tires. The Artin cars are perfect to teaching people how to drive and race slot cars, if you want to go faster just get cars with strong traction magnets.
The three things to do to any 1/32 scale set is:
1) 12 volt power supply with more amps
2) more straight track
3) Parma 45 Ohm controllers
Every brand of 1/32 race set has power supplies that are marginal. A simple 12 volt power supply with 3 amps or more from Radio Shack or a adjustable voltage power supply is the best upgrade you can do. The Artin controlles are very good but spring tension is rather high for little kids, I like the Parma 45ohm economy controllers for an upgrade. Other than that just get more straight track and some ot hte great cars by Carrera, FLY, Ninco, Scalextric and a host of others and enjoy!
