I've been thinking of getting into lawn mower racing ( riding mower that is) and was having some problems finding basic info. Unfortunately, I live in California but grew up in the South where this kind of sport is very popular. I have been unable to find a club in California period.
I also had some very basic questions just in case someone on here has made a racing mower. I assume that for a bare-bones racer all you would need to do is put a big pulley on the engine shaft and a small one on the tranny. That way the ratio would be different and hence- more speed! Other mods I suppose would be a pipe sticking out to a certain length ( one guy mentioned painting the pipe white and chopping it off where it was just cool enough not to burn) and putting on a better intake, as in a non-restricted air filter.
Other than that, I was wondering if I would need to look into a different tranny or put a lighter weight grease in it. I imagine having a tranny built for going 5MPH go 30MPH isn't that great for it. I was also thinking of using a smaller Ariens because they are easy to work on and made a lot better than the typical MTD/Sears stuff.
Anyhow, I've never done this before, so I'm a little in the dark. thanks guys!
