WOW - now THAT is some fast action!!!! Did you move to a different county??? :)

But seriously, it looks like Dave has got the wheels rolling on a buncha' GREAT upgrades for the Timberline oval track! From what he's ordered and already got built there is going to be a fencing system that not only meets QSAC requirements but EXCEEDS them!!!!! One thing that I like about Dave is that he's a LONG way from a 'bare minimum guy'! OOOOOppss, did I say BARE and Dave in the same sentance??? MY BAD!!!!!!!!!

PLUS, the new hot pits will not only meet the requirements but will be easy to work out of too! I think the Timberline oval will be the nicest facility in the Nation soon!

I hate it; today I was really hopeing to sneek down and give him a hand BUT I have a high performance case of the flu and need to be WELL and in Iowa on Monday for a week of meetings! I'm just glad I acted grown up yesterday and stayed home and WORKED; I could have infected Dave and a couple of other of my friends! :(

Ya I saw that today. Like a coupon or something?

I am on my way. I sold 11-Nitro/Electric, small scale cars this weekend LMAO. And I'm selling MORE!
Culling the heard!

Was planning on a lot of dirt work this weekend (was going to post pics). But it snowed all weekend. I started building the fence post's instead. Cut 150 pieces 8 foot long, using 1.5" ...11 gage tubing. I am bending the top 24" curved in for the catch fence effect...lol
09 Dirt Nationals will be cool!!

Wonder if Jim @ Pro1 has layaway??? LOL

I saw a segment on the Travel Channel about a place in Paola, KS. (it looks like 15 miles from your track) that served great BBQ...do you locals know anything about it?

Larry:
Fear not on the BBQ I'll make sure you get some of it. Trust me on this one. Did you get in touch with Mikey about the tires?

You bet!!!
There is actually two BBQ Joints in area less than 15 minutes from the track that have been on Food Network/Travel Channel.

One of these will be Catering the Dirt National RACE!!

The other is 50 steps from the Host Hotel!
http://www.bestwesternkansas.com/paola-hotels/

I was saving some of this for a 2009 QSAC Dirt National @ Timberline Raceway......Thread lol.

So expect a copy/paste here in a few weeks.

As a regular at Dave's track for a number of years, AND a somewhat 'portly' person, I can assure you that Miami County KS is a great place to.....

GAIN WEIGHT!!!!!!!

The BBQ from WeB Smokin' is GREAT - I've had both the catered and the restruant versions - GOOD STUFF - and I believe that I *know* BBQ!

The one close to the hotel I haven't had a chance to get to yet.... BUT, I'm assured (by the Food Channel) that it's good stuff!

PLUS, there's a number of 'mom & pop' places in both Osawatomie and Paola that are excellent too!!!!!!!

So, bottom line: you won't go hungry!

I recommend that trip for EVERYONE!
Puerto Vallarta is wonderful.
I got back today and was supprized to see 75 degree weather here in Kansas City!
As Chris said it has been an extra busy winter for me traveling so much. I do make another trip to Idaho this week but have the troops coming down next weekend so we will be getting back after it next Saturday and Sunday. The only dirt work left is building the hot pit like I want and Billy P should finish that up with no problem. I started on the sprinkler system and plan on continuing on that work with the troops.

Vacation was great but I am ready to play in the dirt for both the tracks.

GREAT news from the LAND OF OZ!!!!!! (that would be KS lest anyone be cornfused!)

the stupid weather is cooperating!!!!! And as a result, the 'elves' invaded Northern Miami county for some work!!!!

First, if you are going to move a lot of dirt, you need a LOT of equipment - and some of it needs to be BIG!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07041.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0667.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07051.jpg

AND, some of you probably recognize the 'players' on Big Blue and the skiddy steer - Commissioner Dave and Elf Billy Pappin!

AND, lots of work got done!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0682.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0699.jpg

Power tools can be a dangerous thing in the hands of 'some' people - here's Elf Steve 'the toolman' Larson! No animals were hurt in the construction of this oval BTW... :)

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07101.jpg

and of course food at one of the many Miami county BBQ establishments was in order!

and of course, Dave is a good HOST!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0715.jpg

(to be continued!)

Then back to work!!!!!!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_07071.jpg

and the track is even beginning to look like a GREAT BIG Quarter Scaley TRACK!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0728.jpg

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0731.jpg

AND, some work is even coming along on the off road track!!!!!

http://photos.hobbytalk.com/data/510/IMG_0726.jpg

The new driver's stand is under construction and the grommet insertion is completed :) !!!!

Soooo, with a couple of more weeks of good weather, I would think that we'll be VERY close to QSAC standards (and beyond!) and ready to start our racing season!!!!!!!!

Hope you all enjoy!

and WHO'S idea was the 8 picture maximum?????? I'm NOT sure I can tell a good story with only 8 pictures..... :)

Well, the 'elves' were hard at work at Timberline again today!!!!!!!

Well, some NICE (ok, REALLY NICE) weather today allowed a lot of work to get done at Timberline today!!!!!!!!

AND, I got a few pictures of the 'elves' in action!!!!!! Dave asked me to send a BIG thanks to all of US who participated!!!!!! :)

Again,
We got alot accomplished yesterday!
Drivers Stand is basically all but done. I will get the concrete piers in the ground next weekend I hope. Call for the Crane and set her in place.

All the pieces for sprinkler system are made up and if it ever dries up around here we will be finials that project too.

I was able to get the track tilled up this morning (before the rain,GEEZ)and sprayed on some soil conditional to help break it own. So packing it in is next.

Once the drivers stand is set the fence is ready to go up.

what do you use to break the soil down gypsum?

fish4check
04-12-2009, 04:43 PM
I have used Gypsum. But when track is treated this way, it breaks up easier. "Blows out" they say.

I use this stuff:
http://www.chemcraft.net/envbroch.html

I can still work it, like rolling it smooth.

OOOpppss..... I posted the pictures on the 'other' thread!!!!!!!

So, here is everything from 4/11/09 - if you didn't see it 'there' you can see it 'here'!!!

Another work day at Timberline yesterday and LOTS more accomplished!!!!

First off, Dave spent the day pre-fabricating the sprinkler/irrigation system for the oval - if you haven't heard BOTH tracks will have irrigation systems this year and predicted watering times are running 10 minutes, start to finish for either track!!!!!!

http://chris-k.smugmug.com/photos/511005547_TLbFz-L.jpg

Chris S, Billy P and Joe L spent the biggest part of the day working on the oval driver's stand - it's pretty much ready to set in place at this point and the the additional ramping will be added!

http://chris-k.smugmug.com/photos/511005705_u9rd4-L.jpg

and Robert and Steve spent a lot of time attaching decking and drilling holes in PVC for the center border of the track!

http://chris-k.smugmug.com/photos/511005637_PKzDu-L.jpg

and of course, LUNCH at We B Smokin' was an absolut MUST

Got 110 gallons mixed, of Enviromax down tonight.

My vacation started tonight. I am taking this weekend off from Track work to go watch the Camping World Truck Series Race/IRL, at Kansas Speedway.

But plan on hitting it hard next week.

Picked up the Building Permit (for the concrete piers) today to relocate the new drivers stand.

Hoping to get alot done on my vacation next week!!

Geez,
We only got about fifty laps into the truck race before Dorthy from OZ showed up.
Tornados touched down just a few miles away from the track. Track officials told 70K+ people take cover!!!!

That was interesting to witness!!!

It has rained 15 days here, out of the last 25.
