View Full Version : What is this??
JasonAB25 12-17-2006, 10:05 PM Found this while comparing some prices online and wondered if it was something new or maybe a misprint. I can't find it anywhere on Novak's site or anywhere else, so thought i'd see if anyone had heard anything on it.

jenzorace 12-17-2006, 10:16 PM Oooooh!!!
Echeconnee 12-17-2006, 10:23 PM it's expensive, that's what it is!
Hays Jr 12-17-2006, 10:52 PM Tower always lists new products that arent available yet at an extremely high price, when the LRP competition's first came out they had them at $298 or something until they became in circulation. Its to avoid a thousand pre orders before they have the product but to still let everyone know its coming.
JasonAB25 12-17-2006, 11:25 PM Yea i've noticed that they do that, but i'm just wondering what it is since I can't find any other information about the ESC itself.
Sonny B 12-18-2006, 12:33 AM Jason, no need to worry. Novak is coming out with a 4-cell specific version of the GTB for oval racers and 1/12 scale on-road users.
Its the same GTB lower case but they have removed the large heat sink & fan and replaced it with a flat plate style heat sink. (Removes weight and makes it easier to fit on an oval car)
In addition it comes with a slightly smaller gauge wire (to save weight)
Smaller barrel cap (saves weight and space)
One new programe profile (for on-road racing).
If anything it should make it more convenient for new Brushless racers.
It was just announced to the dealers late last week so more info will be coming soon. Look for pricing to be the same or slightly less then the current GTB (The Tower Price is not correct) .
JasonAB25 12-18-2006, 02:14 AM Cool, I was hoping to hear/read the words "smaller" but it doesn't look like that's the case huh?? It's cool to see them making something for us oval racers. Reinforces my decision on ESC choices in the past year. Thanks for the info.

MIKE VALENTINE 12-18-2006, 03:14 PM Heres a pic of it.
Z-Main Loser 12-18-2006, 05:30 PM I notice that the switch and receiver harnesses are smaller. Any ideas on when it will be out to buy?

ToddFalkowski 12-21-2006, 04:40 AM Neat looking lid... How do you get ahould of Big Boy Toys? They the same ones who used to make the sprint car cages?
Kenwood 12-21-2006, 09:34 AM Yeah that looks killer... How much are they getting for one of those..??? and are you guys running 3.5 motors with the ESC like that???
Kenwood, on the general RC topic, under brushless and lipo there is an e-mail address. I contacted them, the are $9.95. Look good don't they.
Kenwood 12-21-2006, 10:35 AM Cool...Im going to have to pick one up..
SOBEIT 12-21-2006, 12:26 PM The aluminum plate looks cool, but how hard is it the install. I have never tried to take the heatsink off the GTB. Do I need to clean anything or replace the thermal compound, if there's any. Thanks
swtour 12-21-2006, 03:59 PM sorry guys , I forgot to post Randy's email here
bigboytoysrandy@yahoo.com
The one posted is on Scot Petitclerc's 3.5 MOD car I believe. This car just set a NEW track record a couple weeks ago on the High Banks of the ENCINO VELODROME with the fastest 31 lap run to date. (In 5 minutes)
LARCGuy 12-21-2006, 04:51 PM and are you guys running 3.5 motors with the ESC like that???
Yes. It works great!
LARCGuy 12-21-2006, 04:53 PM The aluminum plate looks cool, but how hard is it the install. I have never tried to take the heatsink off the GTB. Do I need to clean anything or replace the thermal compound, if there's any. Thanks
Install instructions:
Loosen the four screws on top. Loosen up all four a little bit first, then remove completely. Between the heat sink and the FET's is a thermal compound. When you pull on the heat sink to remove it, the thermal paste has a tendency to stick to the heat sink above it, and the guts of the esc below it, pulling everything out with it. A *small* twist motion inconjunction with sticking a hobby knife between the heat sink and orange plastic alignment square will help to ease it off.
Position the new cover into the plastic alignment square and lay the thermal compound back on top of the FET's and gently lay the cover assembly back onto the thermal compound. Re-install the four screws and tighten each until just snug and then take about 2 rotations around the screws tightening them up a little but more, but keeping the pressure even.
Tommygun43 12-21-2006, 11:16 PM ESC looks sweet. I want to go brushless racing, if anyone is interested in selling there original GTB, I may be interested, please pm me.
edit: nevermind, just ordered my new brushless set up, wooohooo!
Brad Boling 12-22-2006, 12:53 PM That heatsink eliminator plate is boss... I ordered one, and I dont even have a GTB yet!

I got mine from Randy today, very nice and fit perfectly. Great product.
JasonAB25 12-30-2006, 02:34 AM I second that, just finished installing the first of the two that I ordered. Took about 5 minutes. Definately a great product. Thanks Randy.
