For years I have preached to everyone that for around 2 bucks you can replace your front spring and for under 4 bucks you can buy side springs or center shock springs. Bottom line is for around 6 to 8 dollars you can keep new springs all the way around your car!
This week I got caught in my own procrastination! I was having trouble getting the car to work and I got another driver to look at it. One of the “many” things he saw was old springs on the side shocks. They had gotten so bad over time that I was loading them more and more to make them work until I was almost out of adjustment room! I put on a new set and it made a big difference. Then I changed the front springs and made another big difference. (At least I had a new center spring on it LOL)
So a word to the wise; before you spend a lot of money and waist a lot of time “chasing your tail” with tires and such……….don't put it off like I did.....put some new springs on your car!

other than the handling going away how do you tell that the springs have "lost their spring so to speak"
use calipers and measure them.

Yeah but when do you know to say its time for new springs? It seems that you would want a spring that is a little broken in?

When you can't tell the color anymore because the paint has chipped away completely you can do more than think about changing your springs.

"a little broken in???" .... I have never heard of a spring "breaking in". A spring is the best it will be when it comes out of the bag. From then on, it's down hill.
"other than the handling going away how do you tell ???" .....Dude, what else would you need to know? LOL
Measuring like DK said is the best way but the deal is "They ain't but Foe Bucks"! After a few races......toss'em or give them to someone that's just starting out.

honestly new graphite and springs every year will keep your race program consistent year to year. depending on how often you race it may be more than once a year.and front springs once a month for sure! well unless you use silva front springs, they tend to last alot longer.

be sure after racing every week to un-screw the collars on your side shocks.. keeping load on them while in storage kills them really fast..
