Tim Mc 12-18-2006, 12:48 AM Here is a document that was originally written by Terry Rae. It covers key areas of setup & will give good insight where to look when handling problems occur.
Tim Mc 12-18-2006, 12:54 AM Slider,
One must have tool for 1/4 scales is a temp gun. Tire heat readings will improve your setup & will save your tires.
jbell31 12-18-2006, 08:42 AM Nitrowolf, that is a very good document. I have some of the same things on our website under the "Setup" tab. http://glqsr.homestead.com/Setup.htmlIf you don't mind, I'd like to add this document or parts of it to our site.

Tim Mc 12-18-2006, 10:45 AM Jim,
yes, any information that wll help a racer should be posted.
Slider,
I hear ya.
Slider 12-20-2006, 05:48 PM BODY MOUNTING?
Best way to mount body. "Fasteners in both side panels" Or Fasteners in both side panels and in front.
Really wondering if in the frt would help body last longer or Make it worse. Thanks
Tim Mc 12-20-2006, 07:58 PM Slider,
I would not add any type of fastener to the front. It would only bind after a hit or two. You might support the hood area with foam or such on top of the chassis?
Slider 12-20-2006, 09:41 PM NitroWolf. I appreciate that. I had seen some pics of done both ways. and thought boy id hate to mess up a new body. ain't priced like a 1/10 scale.
Tim Mc 12-20-2006, 10:08 PM Slider,
Did you pick your car up yet?
Slider 12-21-2006, 08:52 AM Dec 27th. He is so busy with his buisness this time of year, he just couldn't get away. But I understand it. But I got ant's in the pants waiting.6 more days.

GILYHANTREE 12-22-2006, 12:03 AM Gilly,
Check our web site links area also.yeah i got those didn't know if their where some out their i was missing looking to get lots of stuff and didn't want to have to order from lots of different places. also i will be running the red cap motor. where can i purchase the correct restrictor plate for montgomery.i should have the car ready somwhere around the 10th of january maybe sooner depends on how quick i get my parts to finish the car out i have also got to fab a throttle servo plate for the car that shouldn't take long.

You can get the plate from Allen. Which throttle servo plate are you looking to use? There is one that WCM made tht mounts on the clutch housing.
GILYHANTREE 12-22-2006, 10:37 AM You can get the plate from Allen. Which throttle servo plate are you looking to use? There is one that WCM made tht mounts on the clutch housing. i haven't seen that one. i thought about making a plate like the cat 5 car has and either welding or brazing it to the chassis.what's allens # i may give him a ring and see if he can send me a plate. that way i will be ready to go and everything like it is suppose to be to meet tech.
Belf28 12-22-2006, 10:51 AM gily heres a pic of the mount you need ,it just bolts on to the clutch housing as tim stated earlier

Tim Mc 12-22-2006, 11:49 AM Gilly,
I have a couple of the WCM clutch housing mounts you can have if would like to go with that type. It will only accept a standard high torque sized servo. To be honest, I would use a Pro1 throttle servo setup. Jim has a sweet design and is capable of being position just about anywhere on the chassis. It accepts the larger servos. You can find Pro1's link on the QSAC site or LPR's.
Good luck,
Tim

Timtim if you have an extra throttle servo mount. i would like to have one. i can give you my adress to ship it to. and i will gladly pay you for it and the shipping. i think i may cange it up later but i have lots of standard high torque servos and that will work best for me right now. boy their are some great racers in 1/4 thanks for the help guys.
Tim Mc 12-22-2006, 10:46 PM Brandon,
Send it to me by PM. Can you get one to Will? If so, I will send both out next week UPS.

sprint2b 12-22-2006, 11:42 PM I was told to get the servo away from the clutch mount due to the heat factor. Is this a real factor to be considered when mounting the servo in this position?
GILYHANTREE 12-22-2006, 11:45 PM here i s another question what steering servos do most guys run. i was going to use 2 futaba 9550 will that do or do i need to get something else
Tim Mc 12-23-2006, 12:01 AM I was told to get the servo away from the clutch mount due to the heat factor. Is this a real factor to be considered when mounting the servo in this position?
Not, that it is not a problem but I have never experienced a heat problem with the clutch mounted servo bracket. The only problem I have had is with the vibration & bolts loosening up. This is a common problem with 1/4 scales.
I chose to go with a 1/4 scale sized servo & the cable system.
Gily,
What are the torque ratings on the servos?
One other thing to consider... servo speed. Some of us turn the servo speed rates down on the steering servos. This will eleminate the need for high speed servos.
Allen & I run the S3305. About 34.99 @ T/H.
Futaba S3305
Speed: 0.25 sec/60 degrees at 4.8V
0.20 sec/60 degrees at 6V
Torque: 124 oz-in (8.9 kg-cm) at 6V
99 oz-in (7.1 kg-cm) at 4.8V
GILYHANTREE 12-23-2006, 12:05 AM at 6 volts transit speed .11 and torque 83.3 in/oz
GILYHANTREE 12-23-2006, 12:10 AM why slower speed on bigger car ?
i ran those servos in 10th scale with steering speed wide open
Tim Mc 12-23-2006, 12:12 AM at 6 volts transit speed .11 and torque 83.3 in/oz
Those are a too weak for racing, but probably would hold up for practice?
GILYHANTREE 12-23-2006, 12:13 AM hope i am not asking to many questions. will can tell you that i am sorta a perfectionist when it comes to stuff on my rc equipment.
Tim Mc 12-23-2006, 12:17 AM For me it helps with over compensating.
Tim Mc 12-23-2006, 12:18 AM Bring'em on. If I can't answer one, I'll pass and let one of these other fine racers jump in.
chip bonds 12-23-2006, 12:19 AM Tim when is the next race at LPR?
Tim Mc 12-23-2006, 12:21 AM Chip,
I'm not sure of the actual date but it is March. The schedule will be voted on at our meeting next month and will be posted afterwards.
chip bonds 12-23-2006, 12:26 AM Thanks I was just wanna watch all the new drivers and see how they do. If they do good I may have to join in.
GILYHANTREE 12-23-2006, 12:29 AM Thanks I was just wanna watch all the new drivers and see how they do. If they do good I may have to join in.me will and slider are gong to race for the ranks of rookie of the year at LPR so you might as well join in on the action chip.
chip bonds 12-23-2006, 12:34 AM I would need to look at the different chassis to see how each is built and what makes each tick. I have looked at pics but I can't tell what I am looking for in them. I need to see the real deal.
GILYHANTREE 12-23-2006, 01:26 AM I would need to look at the different chassis to see how each is built and what makes each tick. I have looked at pics but I can't tell what I am looking for in them. I need to see the real deal.i don't know yet either. i just went for a good used one that i don't have a ton invested. and will has a wcm also so that is better so we don't have to have a ton of parts with us. slider got a pro-1 i believe it and cat-5 cars look good but i imagine that they are like pan cars the right driver and crew chief can make anything fast.
Slider 12-23-2006, 09:31 AM I said to myself I see Chip over on this thread and said Chip is Next!!!
Gilly is correct, Mine will be the Pro1. Chip they are all decent cars. I like some features on all the cars. The Cat 5 really was my first choice. I like the way frt end can be adjusted. I like the rear of chassis better angled up.Like the laydown motor. But NitroWolfe had said no advantage noticed with that. But I talked to Jim at PRO1 and they are making a bracket to make theres a laydown as well. And really like the new Pro 1 overall.I wish i had 1 of each. But that won't happen.
GILYHANTREE, we have enough for a Novice class. we can see who gets the Rookie of the year. I know Novice would get to ya.LMAO. :p
Gily Think about the Load that is getting put on those servos compared to a 1/10. OVER 10 time's the car wheight.
shaker 12-23-2006, 10:01 AM HOW DO YOU KEEP THE JUG FROM LEAKING AMD DO YOU RETIGHTEN IT OFTEN.
