View Full Version : T-Maxx or E-Maxx
stampedbasher8 12-14-2006, 10:42 AM hey i want to get a new truck i know im gona get a maxx but i don't know if i want a nitro or electric. doesn'e anyone know which one i should get. i love the real sound and smell of the nitro and i like the easy convenince about the E-Maxx. which one is better or is it just preferance.
JS12581 12-14-2006, 05:05 PM I had both. Sold the T-Maxx on ebay a few years ago. It's a great truck and at times I wish I still had it. but it was a very tempermental truck one tank of fuel would run great, the next would run like s!@#. If you like constantly tinkering and adjusting to make it run you would probably like the T-Maxx.only thing I dislike about the E-Maxx is run time, dual Ni-Cd 2400's run about 10 Min. thinking about getting dual 3800 NiMh can anyone advise whether it is worth the $70.00 per stick to upgrade?
stampedbasher8 12-14-2006, 06:35 PM $70 f@#% that. Duratrax makes 4200 and they are 45$ each. thats for the dean connectors deal. they also make 3800 w/ deans also for $47. its kinda messed up. i suggest the 4200 from Duratrax. you can get the at www.towerhobbies.com. thats a great hobby shop. i order all my parts from their. so u think the E-Maxx is better or not. you said you wish you had the T still at times.
JS12581 12-14-2006, 06:55 PM The T-maxx is a faster and more powerfull. it will do doughnuts in loose soil without rolling over, and it is significantly faster. But this all comes with a downside. it breaks easier and it takes alot of tuning to keep it going. thanks for the info on packs. I was looking at SMC online store
JS12581 12-14-2006, 07:00 PM One thing I forgot. I could never get the T-Maxx to stay running when messing around with obstical courses and technical manuvering. it seemed to like being run wide open or it would stall.
JS12581 12-14-2006, 07:21 PM I guess that really didn't answer your question. I would have to say the E-Maxx is better or I wouldn't have sold the T-Maxx. I guess it really comes down to how you intend to run the truck. The T-Maxx was more fun when it ran. but the E-Maxx is more consistant and I would have to say more reliable too. I had the original T-Maxx with the traxxas 1.5 engine and the and I upgraded to an OS Max Pro 15 engine hoping to improve performance in the truck. with no luck. I will say that it was my first and only nitro RC. If it was possible to protect the E-Maxx from water and make it run 15 to 20 Minutes it would be the better truck by far. One last note remember, I sold the T-Maxx but I still have my E-maxx
stampedbasher8 12-14-2006, 07:27 PM the duratrax packs are so-cal matched packs for serious competition and for the regular old basher like me.
this is the 4200 with regular tamiya connectors

this is the 4200 with deans ultra connectors

i am thinking about getting the 4200 but idk about how hot the motor would be.
i was running a 12T motor until i fried it today, in my stampede. do u think a 15T motor would be a good for a pede?
stampedbasher8 12-14-2006, 07:35 PM u think the E would be better at bashing. thats all i do. is there many motor hop ups for the E. i think im going to get the E-Maxx. it is nice and i do like electric. my neighbor had REVO and we couldn't get it running. it would bog out when you pulled the trigger.he sold it and hasn't gotten another one since. i am so much better at tuning electrics. plus they are less expensive and a lot less maintenance.
whalebone 12-22-2006, 11:36 PM I have a e-maxx with the hv maxx brushless system on it i can smoke a stock t-maxx all day long with my 4200 smc
Minreg 12-23-2006, 02:12 AM I have a tmaxx with a Sirio engine and its scary fast for me.
Good thing it starts cause I dont know too much about nitro tuning.
I bought parts to convert it to an Emaxx when I kill the nitro motor.
Butters16 12-23-2006, 09:50 AM There is no comparisen between duratrax batteries and SMC or other matchers, Tower buys the cheapest batteries they can get, and seeing that smc imports most of the cells for everyone that would be where my money would go. But if you are just bashing around and not racing competitively than the Duratrax is the way to go. It all depends on what you want to do with the Maxx. And being where we live with all the tempature changes i wouldn't go with nitro (just my 2 cents). Get a hold of Steve Burdo in Dannamora he runs alot of Nitro and would be a good source if you decide to go with the nitro unit.
stampedbasher8 12-24-2006, 12:28 AM i know tom whitman has his T-Maxx. he said it has been up on his self for a year due to water damage to ALL his electronics. he said that if i get a nitro, he would help me keep it tuned w/ the weather chane. al ill also consider steve burdo in dannamora. ill find him in the phone book. i want to get the nitro for the full on power. electric die out slowly and nitro's just quit when they run out of fuel. i want that. ill proly get a jato. i love speed.
stampedbasher8 12-27-2006, 09:03 PM soo you guys think the E-Maxx would be a better basher. you said that u bought part to convert the T to an E once u blow the engine. do u like the electric power better? i still not sure what to get. its between an E, T, JATO.
general pedestr 01-06-2007, 09:50 PM id go E, get a few RS3300's at $25 a pack, and enjoy the truck.
stampedbasher8 01-07-2007, 11:37 AM iv desided not to get either. im just going to keep my stampede that i have and put some mods on it. like a brushless and aluminum stuff. thanks for the tips. ill keep them in mid for the future
stampedbasher8 01-09-2007, 01:39 PM hi mu friend up here in ny said that he didn't run his T-Maxx because it is so hard to keep it running with all the change in wheather. b/c it get to close to below freezing in the winter and it can get up to 95 degrees in the summer. he told me not to get a nitro b/c it is hard to tune w/ the weather changes. is this true or not. i belivive him b/c he has both electric and nitro and he likes elctric better. i it true that it is hard to tune here?
cjtamu 01-12-2007, 12:42 PM Nitro engines have to be re-tuned no matter where you live b/c conditions change. It ain't rocket science, but there's a learning curve associated with it. A stock T-maxx is much faster then a stock E-maxx, period. You can drop about $300 into an HV-maxx system and another $150 or so in drivetrain upgrades and have an E-maxx that will run with anything. That said, my stock (mostly) E-maxx is my favortie bashing vehicle. Ditch the Tamiya connectors and keep the motors clean and it will run for a long time.
E-maxx92 03-22-2007, 05:21 PM I had both too, but go with the e-maxx. It's alittle slower but the motor doesn't wear out as fast as the t-maxx
