View Full Version : 1950 Dodge Wayfayer coupe
STUTZ 12-13-2006, 05:08 PM A 1/43 scale 1950 Dodge Wayfarer coupe made by Brooklin.
This is not my favorite style of car, but I plan on using it in a 1950's McDonalds diorama. I bought the McDonalds building this past summer. It's a matter of selecting the cars that I want to use in the diorama.
The big problem is that I don't have any 1/43 scale people for the diorama. I stopped at a couple hobby stores in my area, but they didn't have any 1/43 scale people that I could use with my McDonalds building. The 1/43 scale people that the hobby stores had were more fit to go with a train layout. They were factory workers, ice skaters, and people that worked at the train station.

Thanks for looking.
Please post pics of your 1/43 scale diecast cars.
StreetFreak 12-13-2006, 09:00 PM Stutz...Never heard of a Dodge Wayfarer coupe before and that is why I like this 1:43 scale forum so much. Collectors like yourself have really been giving me a good education lately, especially about Brooklin diecast. I never knew about them until you started sharing them with us. THANKS!!
I find it kinda interesting that alot of the Brooklin Diecast cars came out in that forest green color. It's also interesting that on ALL of the Brooklin diecast shown, they all have nice chrome grills, headlights, hood ornaments, radio antennas, but decided to not provide detailing around the windows, the door handles, quarter panel insignias, or the chrome trim pieces that run the length of the quarter panels. Is there a reason for these missing details?
As far as the car goes, I actually kinda like it, and could see it cruising down some big city street. What did the 1950 Dodge Wayfarer coupe cost to buy back in it's day?
I wish I could help you on the 1:43 scale figures, but I too have the same problem out here with 1:43 as well as 1:64. It seems anything that is available either fit in with train or farm dioramas.:p
BluntFronts 12-13-2006, 10:15 PM That's a cool looking model. Great color, too. I think I've read that those were intended as traveling salesmen's cars, with the big trunk for sample cases.
The only reason I've ever heard of the Wayfarer is that some friends I used to work with about twenty years ago were searching for a nice 1:1 Wayfarer, because it was the car he drove on their first date way back when.
Apparently good ones are a bit scarce, because they had been searching for a couple of years when I knew them. Lost touch with them so I don't know if they ever found their romantic/nostalgic dream car or not.

Thanks again for the kind words StreetFreak.
I'm learning about other makers of 1/43 scale diecast cars in this forum too. I wish more people would post pics of their 1/43 diecast cars.
I always wondered why Brooklin didn't detail the door handles, windshield wiper blades, logos, trim around the windows, etc. myself.
I don't know what the price of the original 1:1 car was. My guess would be well under $2000 list. Perhaps one of our HT members can give us an answer.
If you look in some of the vending machines in stores like TRU, you may find figures of people for 50 cents that go with 1/43 scale diecast cars. You gotta get lucky to get the figure that you want in 2 or 3 tries. There are also figures of people that are 1/64 scale that come with the 1/64 scale cars in clam shell packaging.
Here's a Brooklin that has chrome foil applied to some of the chrome trim.

Here's a police officer writing a ticket that I got from a vending machine for 50 cents. The car is 1/43 scale.

Here's a pic of a 1/64 scale JL car (I got it from HT member 6-b-kwik) and a 1/64 scale figure that I got a Big Lots with another 1/64 scale figure and a homie car for $2.00.

I believe you are right about them being intended as traveling salesmen's cars, they did have a big trunk.
StreetFreak 12-14-2006, 09:47 PM STUTZ...
Aren't those 1:43 scale figures from the vending machines called "HOMEYS"? I actually do have some of those, and I know what you mean about being "LUCKY" to get the right figure in 2 or 3 trys! LOL
That Policeman is really cool and at .50 cents (1 try), BUT I guess the big question is...how many times at .50 cents did you try before finally getting him! :p
That chrome foil sure makes a difference in the look of that Ford. I bet it would even look more realistic if you touched up the door handles and insignia with a little silver paint.
NICE pics!

I'm not sure if they are called "HOMEYS".
I put $2.00 in the machine and I didn't open the plastic containers until I got home, so I don't know if I got him on the first try or the fourth try.
I would like to be there when the vending machine person refills the machine. I would ask him if I could look through the plastic containers for figures that I want.
You are right about detailing the door handles and insignia with silver paint. I have thought about that for years. I may have to try it.

STUTZ 02-25-2007, 12:53 AM Hi triplett, and welcome to the 1/43 scale forum!
I'm honored that your first post was in this thread!
I bought the Dodge Wayfarer at a toy show at the EXPO MART in Pittsburgh, PA several years ago. If you do a search on the 'Bay for Brooklins you may be able to find one.
Hi 2fab4u! The White Tower building was bought at an indoor flea market in the early '90's from a diecast vender. The building was new when I bought it. There were several other diner type buildings that the vender had for sale.
Here's a pic on the base of the White Tower building (dated 1993). I believe that is the year that I bought the building.
