Awesome!!!

I'm sending that to my ex-boss who quit last year to work in the Caymans and left me with a nasty main frame manual file downlaod to do each month!

I think Adams created the situation just so he can stick the "frack" at the end. :D

I've been saying "frack" for quite some time, but I've been careful not to say it in front of my niece and nephews just because it's pretty obvious what that word means to replace. That was until Thanksgiving and I let out a hearty "frack" under my breath because I screwed up during my turn at a game we were playing with my dad, siblings and teenage niece and nephew. My sister-in-law almost killed me when I said it and asked in a very accusatory manner, "What did you say?" Luckily my wife was there to validate I did say "frack" and not the other word. Thank God for technicalities.

Couple ironies here: First, I'm sure your brother's kids are well-versed in the use of the real thing, by now. Second, God likes to hear the real thing, and sends us euphemism-users to hell for false righteousness. Shhh- don't tell Hank! ;)

. . . God likes to hear the real thing, and sends us euphemism-users to he[ck] for false righteousness.

^^You're right, toyroy. I had a Bible class when I was a kid that pointed out the pointlessness of euphemisms. If the intent is still there in the heart, the word is merely a thin veneer of politeness.

I find it amusing that many a euphemism comes to be as tainted and as poisonous as the word it replaces and the culture seems to dredge up yet another euphemism to take its place.

Dr. Seuss once had a TV cartoon character go outside to the "euphemism" to "relieve himself".

True, but you don't know how devout my brother is.

Regardless, the use of a euphemism is only polite to others. It's human nature to express frustration, and that sometimes leads to an involuntary statement. No one would deny your right to express the frustration, but you can be damned sure that not everyone wants to hear your expletive, especially one that is almost universally considered to be the strongest one. If I burn in hell for using a euphemism, then at least my intentions were good. :)

Sometimes, it seems it goes the other way. In the 60s, dork was one of those words not used in polite conversation. These days, you hear kids on family TV shows say it constantly.

Good point. Some words lose their power along with their original meaning.

I really don't mind adjusting my language to the sensibilities of others. I have no interest in hurting anyone. Just as long as it is understood that I am utterly contemptuous of petty fascism.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to political correctness.

Is this a reference to how short Mussolini was?

Maybe it was supposed to be a reference to Eva Peron and he left the "r" out of "pretty."
