Well, it just hit cable, and I got a chance to see parts of it over the weekend. Visually stunning. I wonder how well it holds up over 10-50 viewings?

ChrisW 12-11-2006, 05:08 PM Speaking for myself, I find that I tend to skip over parts to get to the "wow" scenes - never did that with the original... Griffworks 12-11-2006, 05:59 PM I've seen it about five times and still sit rapt by it with each viewing. I really think that Jackson's love of the original and of the art of movie making shines thru. jheilman 12-11-2006, 10:39 PM If I do get it on DVD, I can see skipping over the too-many monster scenes particularly the spider pit. One scene too many. Y3a 12-11-2006, 10:44 PM Being a fan of Harryhausens "Mighty Joe Young" and not so much of Willis O'Brien's King Kong, I find that the original Kong's stop-motion animation and film edits kept the illusion from happening, as it seems to remind you that you are watchng an effects movie. MJY from Harryhausen (and a mere 3 weeks of help from O'Brien) holds up far better. I still get a lump in my throat when Joe and the orphan fall with the tree, and when Joe shields the orphan from the burning and crumbling building. I got the same feeling from the new Kong. jsnmech18 12-12-2006, 08:02 AM Being a fan of Harryhausens "Mighty Joe Young" and not so much of Willis O'Brien's King Kong, I find that the original Kong's stop-motion animation and film edits kept the illusion from happening, as it seems to remind you that you are watchng an effects movie. I never thought in a million years I would choke up over a 50 foot ape. :( I really enjoyed this movie and thought that from start to finish that it was well done. Those final scenes with blondie weeping over Kongs death....pheeew! My wife cried like a baby. j John P 12-12-2006, 08:49 AM He's only about 20 feet tall, actually. I think 18 feet was the number Willis O'Brien used. The only part of the film that really annoyed me was the multiple-T-rex fight. Especially the part when they're all falling through the vines. That's the only part I found too silly to suspend my disbelief. nx-o1troubles 12-12-2006, 12:14 PM If I do get it on DVD, I can see skipping over the too-many monster scenes particularly the spider pit. I thought that there was just way to much material that didnt necessarily need to be there. The blondie should have died 100 times, and she went through ordeal after ordeal after freakin nonstop ordeal for about 45 minutes with no break. I didnt have time to catch my breath. The natives were also disturbing and they could have done without that. I guess it was a good movie, and I liked it, but like I said, way too much. Y3a 12-12-2006, 12:55 PM Well, King Kong IS a Fantasy. 18 feet tall or 25 foot tall , or even 30 feet tall Gorilla, AND T-Rex's AND Brontosauruses?? At least I didn't have to hear Armstrongs words "Why..Something from the 'Dinosaur Age..'' vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
