View Full Version : Deja Vu
Jim NCC1701A 12-08-2006, 02:41 AM Saw the trailer for this last night. Looks pretty good, in a Jerry Bruckheimer / Tony Scott kinda way.
But, how long does a TV show have to be off the air before someone can come along and rip off it's plot? Because this movie seems an awful lot like that one-season wonder 7 Days...
Eric K 12-08-2006, 09:13 AM 7 Days actually lasted for 2 seasons and also had a plot about planes being flown into the World Trade Center in one show. Bet that one won't see the light of day again. But I thought the same thing when I saw the movie trailer.
Lou Dalmaso 12-08-2006, 10:31 AM ^^Erik,
Speaking of "borrowed" ideas. The pilot of the Lone Gunmen series also featured a plot of terrorists flying a plane into the WTC. It did see the light of day on the DVD box set. Perhaps there will be a 7 Days DVD set in the future. I mean hey, they've released lesser series
Eric K 12-08-2006, 02:08 PM Hmmmm, don't remember the pilot for the "Lone Gunmen". But Who knows about "7 Days" being released on DVD? It was goofy and fun in a very "B" fashion.
Griffworks 12-08-2006, 02:31 PM I thought the plot of Deja Vu (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0453467/)was that they could only view 4 days in the past, not actually journey there? At least, that's what the commercials show.

Er... Just read the basic plot synopsis I link to above from IMDb and see that they're not including all the info in the commecials/trailers for once! Wow. I also see that Val Kilmer, Jim Caviezel, Bruce Greenwood and Matt Craven are in this one and I don't recall seeing them in the previews, either. Kewel!
The show "7 Days" was fun, and had good ratings. What it also has was a male, and female lead that hated each others guts. It got to the point where they refused to appear on set at the same time. Paramount set in mediators, but it was no use, so they canceled the show rather than put-up with the discord.
David.

Man, that's some serious hate going on. Never sleep with your co-star until after the series gets canceled.
Lou Dalmaso 12-08-2006, 03:11 PM At least they didn't go the "moonlighting" route and turn the show over to the secondary characters :)

“An FBI agent travels back in time to save a woman from being murdered, falling in love with her during the process.”
When I first read IMDB’s plot blurb for DÉJÀ VU (the new Jerry Bruckheimer/ Tony Scott/ Denzel Washington Time Travel thriller) I couldn’t help but laugh. If any plot is worthy of the title DÉJÀ VU it’s this one; a premise so shopworn and familiar it’s practically invisible.
Thing is, I just now finished reading the DÉJÀ VU screenplay and, much to my surprise, it turned out to be a real page turner. Sure I knew how the story was going to end, but getting there was so much fun I didn’t care. Despite my familiarity with the conventions of this hackneyed genre (or maybe because of it) the story managed to surprise me with the expected.
Having recently seen the finished film I'm happy to report it more than delivers on the promise of the screenplay.
I'm not a big Jerry Bruckheimer fan, but when he teams up with Denzel Washington and Tony Scott (a la "Crimson Tide" and "Man on Fire") the results can make for a pretty entertaining couple of hours at the theater.
Griffworks 12-08-2006, 04:16 PM Kewel, Rob! Thanks. Sounds like a definite SciFi Thriller, than! I really liked Man On Fire, tho certain elements of the cinematography sort of bugged me. I was able to overlook those elements, tho, and allow myself to enjoy the movie thru two viewings.

Okay, my bad. 2 seasons :)
Didn't know about the WTC plot, though to be honest I turned off from the show after a while...

The trailer is definitely misleading; perhaps intentionally. I thought the film was much better than the advertising led me to believe it was going to be. Excellent casting and believable performances all around. The ending was a bit "hokey", but, hey, it's a Bruckheimer film. And I caught a couple of very minor mistakes (the eyes of one particular "corpse" are looking in a different direction every time they show it, an ambulance with no license plates, stupid stuff like that). But, overall, I'd recommend this film to anyone.

Exactly (hokey or not, I loved the use of the Beach Boy's tune).
And I'll second your comment re: the performances.
terryr 12-08-2006, 08:13 PM Watching Bruckheimer films are deja vu.
