The '77 Caprice, for you Chevy Aficionados, is actually a '76 model; if you remember, the body was restyled for the '77 model year.

Correct. And the coupes had the bent rear window. Seems like Motormax occasionally gets the year off by one.........they did the same on the first releases of the Fresh Cherries Pinto. They incorrectly listed it as a 1970 but, the current release in brown has it corrected to 1971. BluntFronts 12-08-2006, 11:48 AM I'm trying to remember - was there a regular rear window Impala coupe for '71-'72? I know there was a version made for '69-'70; I think it was called "Sport Coupe" or something (as opposed to "Custom" for the curved, concave rear window model.) Does anyone remember a convex, bubble rear window on some '71-'72 Impala coupes? (I couldn't find a pic of one on google.) If they did make a version like that, then the Motormax model of the '71 would seem to be accurate, too. jimhowie2000 12-08-2006, 03:35 PM I'm trying to remember - was there a regular rear window Impala coupe for '71-'72? In 74 and 75, the Sport Coupe looked somewhat like a cross between the 69-70 style and the side windows of the 71-73 Custom Coupe. I will post pictures if I can find any. I still am trying to find a Wal-Mart that has the 74 and 76 castings in..........no luck yet!!!! Ok, found a few pics...the brownish colored one is a 72, the white is a 74 (photo from buzztrader.com) BluntFronts 12-08-2006, 04:01 PM Yes, they did make the Sport Coupe through 1973, with the rounded rear window. When I first saw the Motormax '71s, I thought they looked wrong, but then I started to remember the rounded rear window version in my head. So thanks for letting me know I wasn't imagining it! Of course, now I'm having trouble remembering those '74-'75s...(A picture would be appreciated when you get a chance.) I owned a '72 Caprice 400 with the bent glass roofline for a few years - I really loved it - a beautiful car with tons of scoot, until it got slammed by a guy who ran a stop sign. I was incredibly bummed to let it go, but there was no doubt that it was totaled. No luck so far at our WMs either... RobDog 12-08-2006, 04:59 PM I found me some 73 hard tops today at KB, for those looking, that store has em. They're those stupid-ass Donks but they can be fixed to ride normal. craftymore 12-08-2006, 05:39 PM Got any pics of the 73s yet rob? Have not seen any of those yet. jimhowie2000 12-09-2006, 09:12 AM Here are a couple of pictures of the 74 (green) and 75 (white) Impala Sport Coupes... They are still great looking cars. Now I realize how much I miss seeing those big old RWD Chevys out on the roads. They used to be EVERYWHERE! Thanks again for your help. jimhowie2000 12-10-2006, 03:07 PM Ah, now I remember those. Thank you for posting the photos. They are still great looking cars. I learned how to drive on a then brand new 74 Impala Custom Coupe. My father hated the huge triangular side window and had the car modified to have a small opera window. It looked a lot like a new Cadillac but, was extremely hard to see out of due to the huge blind spot in the quarters. Here are a few a pictures of the car when it was brand new. My Dad also hated the front license plate mounted in the stock location off to the passenger side, so he made a new bracket and mounted it in the center as on a 73 Impala. wildbill63 12-11-2006, 11:39 PM No Problem. Sounds like your pop knew what he wanted in his ride and wasn't afraid of what other people thought! Good for him. I kind-of like the opera window. If you seen that car sitting next to you at a light it would make you think that there was something just a tad different but just not quite able to put your finger on it! Have you thinking about it for blocks and maybe still not figure it out. BluntFronts 12-12-2006, 08:21 PM I agree...that's very cool that your dad made the car more to his liking. I always liked some of the GM opera windows; the ones he had put on his Chevy look like the "Original" introduced on the 1971 Eldorado. Very nice, in my opinion. I was thinking about how bad the blind spots were on my '72 Caprice coupe - that roofline was very stylish, but changing lanes to get off of the expressway took extra skill, some guts, and lots of good luck! (Those rear roof panels could hide an entire car if it was in the right place. And the right side door mirrors were still optional on most cars back then.) jimhowie2000 12-13-2006, 10:20 PM I'll have to dig into my box of photos. My father also had a 1983 Cavalier coupe that he had done in a similar style to the 74 Impala he had. This one was red with a tan roof and interior. The car still is in existence with over 320,000 miles on it but he no longer owns it. Those old big cars sure did have blind spots in the quarters........my 69 Impala Sport Coupe has a good sized one as well. Still, it sure looks nice from the outside! BluntFronts 12-19-2006, 10:01 PM Your '69 is a true beauty. Great color combo, too. Thanks for posting it. The '69s & '70s are my favorite full-size Chevys, followed by the '65-'66s. Someday I'll have at least one of them for fun, I hope. bugo 12-20-2006, 12:17 AM I found the "77" and the 71 at Wally World tonight, and I noticed the "77" is indeed a 76, so I did a websearch and found this forum. I wonder how this slipped through, as it is common knowledge the 77 GM cars were downsized. Regardless of the error, they are very nice models. bugo 12-20-2006, 12:20 AM I'll have to dig into my box of photos. Do you have a picture of the custom Cavalier? jimhowie2000 12-20-2006, 12:19 PM Do you have a picture of the custom Cavalier? I will post pictures as soon as I can figure out what is wrong with my scanner. stanmmx 12-23-2006, 02:09 PM Dear All: If anyone remeber these,Imperial Toys released a either Caprice or Impala sedan 1971 in police Form and that came under several liveries. This comes with the 'hump' at the trunk (and I still trying to find out what model had these). The 1971 had the tailights above the bumper - while later models had these inside it - and this model reproduces that perfectly;three tailights,so it is a Caprice or Impala. I got Maisto's Chevrolet 1971 version (too bad it is a 4x4 type;otherwise, that is good casting, too).Had no luck to find the Motormax (I want mostly the 1976 model;talk about a unique casting),but yes,if I find the 1971,I grab that too. jimhowie2000 12-24-2006, 12:00 PM Dear All: If anyone remeber these,Imperial Toys released a either Caprice or Impala sedan 1971 in police Form and that came under several liveries. This comes with the 'hump' at the trunk (and I still trying to find out what model had these). The 1971 had the tailights above the bumper - while later models had these inside it - and this model reproduces that perfectly;three tailights,so it is a Caprice or Impala. Are you meaning the casting that was in the series for the 1974 TV show "The Rookies"? I have two of those. They are much smaller than the current Motormax 71 Impala. Oddly, just as the current casting is a little off in that it has the side profile of the Custom Coupe with the rear window and trunklid of the Sport Coupe, the police car casting used the Custom Coupe trunklid with the four door sedan side profile. It also had a 74 style front bumper instead of the 71. I will see if I can get photos of mine. jimhowie2000 12-24-2006, 12:09 PM I will post pictures as soon as I can figure out what is wrong with my scanner. Got the scanner working so, here are two pics of the 83 Cavalier with Landau roof and opera window tht my father had. If it had been bright Aqua blue metallic, it would have been a baby version of the custom 74 Impala he had. Though it was not as pretty, as powerful or as soft riding as the Impala, it was reliable. It had about 320,000 miles on it when he sold it a few years ago. stanmmx 12-25-2006, 02:00 AM Are you meaning the casting that was in the series for the 1974 TV show "The Rookies"?
