My daughter and I want to start doing HO scale model railroading. What do I need to know/read before I go down to the hobby shop? Thanks.

Your library or bookstore probably has Model Railroader magazine, and/or Railroad Model Craftsmen. Also, see if they have any books on layout construction.

They have those at the train shop, too, and if it's not that far away, that is really the place to go. Some of them even have folks who will give you good answers to your questions.

Try going to this website.
http://www.greatesthobby.com/ They have lots of good info in there. Hitting some train shows can be good as well. Go to www.trains.com and check their calendar for shows in your area. www.greattrainexpo.com runs big train shows around the country, and you can see some amazing layouts that can give you ideas you can use at home. They also run clinics for beginners at the Train Expo shows.
