View Full Version : Let's talk about tires
Echeconnee 11-29-2006, 09:55 AM I wanted to find out what tires are being used at tracks close to me. Does anyone have tire set up info for Montgomery, Easly, and other tracks in the southeast?
Stuch 11-29-2006, 10:06 AM I am also fairly new to the Quarter Pounders and had pretty much the same question last fall when I started. I was refered to Todd Bishop at BRP and found him more than willing to share info with me. The thing I found most refreshing was he didn't try to sell me tires I didn't need, I actually ask about a couple different variations and he talked me out of them. Give him a call at Bishop Racing Products you won't be dissapointed.

IN2RACIN 11-29-2006, 11:58 AM When I raced @ Easley in 2005 I used all BRP Tires. RF 96, LF L-20, RR C-5, LR L-20. It was in May so it wasn't that hot. When you get into the hot months you may want to try RR 410 cat, and L-30's on the left side.
All my RR tires are 18 1/2 inches around, I get the stagger I need through my left rear tires. Helps keep the cost down a bit. I normaly run about 1' of rear stagger to start, then adjust from there.
IN2RACIN 11-29-2006, 12:02 PM L-27?
i called BRP and told him the track i ran at , and he seem to know what i needed. and the tires worked great this was for a banked track
left front-L27
right front-96
left rear-L20
right rear-C5
1/2" rear stagger

DCLARK 12-31-2006, 08:51 PM At easley this year my tire selection was
RF - 96 - 18 1/4
LF - L20 - 18 1/4
LR - L20 - 17 3/4
RR - C5 - 18 3/4
RR - 410 cat - 18 3/4
you can get by with a 410 cat in the cooler weather if your easy the first few laps till heat is built up. The new surface at Easley is very easy on tires and very fast. Most guys are 1/2 a second fast than they were on the old track.

I 've had some success at Easley with a sprinter , the compounds I used :
LF L20 2 1/2 " wide 17 1/4 " rollout Soft Host
RF 96 2 3/4 " wide 17 1/4 " rollout Firm Host
LR L20 3 " wide 17 1/4 " rollout Soft Host
RR 410 cat 18 1/2 " rollout Firm Host Warm outside Temp
405 18 1/2 " rollout Firm Host Cool outside Temp
Looking forward to racing with ya in the spring

sprint2b 02-02-2007, 08:12 PM Randy thanks for the good info. How about a gear with the 230RC red cap? Being new to the 1/4 scales can you go a little deeper on the set up? Shocks, spring, shock pistons etc. Not asking to give all your secrets just some to try to keep up.
Anyone ever try the light weight clutch shoes or different spring??

I used a 15 /78 gear . Reversed stock clutch shoes with the stock spring . What type of sprinter do you have ? Reason I ask is mine is a hybred and offset to the limit and what I use for springs might through you out of the ballpark set up for your car , but I have run both WCM and PRO 1 and could give you a few ideas as what to try .
Randy
sprint2b 02-03-2007, 03:33 PM I have a 03 WCM with a black cap motor. I figure the caster & camber will be determined by the wear of the tire. Just trying to get as close as I can so I'm not in the way of the rest of you guys.
Randy Baker 02-03-2007, 08:17 PM Ok , Ballpark start . RR spring 25# , LR spring 12# , 16# across the front . Shock oil I used Associated , RR 25wt , LR 10wt. , 15wt. across the front . I've noticed a few times you've mentioned that you didn't want to be in the other guys way . When I started out I felt the same , and what advise I was given by the veterans at the time was just hold your line the best you can and let the faster cars do the figuringout how to move around ya . Talk to you later,
Randy
sprint2b 02-04-2007, 08:47 AM Thanks Randy hope to meet you in Easley in April..
