We use Laps Free...can find at www.rctiming.com. Free program, can just about run the whole day by itself if your racers can be on time, if you wanted it to.

Windows Autoscore here in Smethport, PA. Haven't had a glitch with it yet (knocking heavily on wood) and is very user friendly.

I use WINDOWS Autoscore w/ the AMBrc system and personal transponders on a laptop for the SWTour.

If I was in the market today however, and was planning to purchase a program it would be RCScoring Pro.

I've used J-Lap and give them credit for always trying to upgrade their program, I just don't think it's user friendly and have seen race delays caused by little things caused by the program updates.

Both the RCScoring Pro and J-Lap have better graphics options than Autoscore (If you are interested in what your printout LOOKS Like)

Autoscore (At least the version I have) still has some annoying crap, like having to reset the paper size so it doesn't spit an extra sheet of paper out each time, becomnig a paper whore. That coupled with not being able to get it to recognize LEGAL size paper so I can do long race results on a single sheet instead of always having 2 pages.

I do like (With AUTOSCORE) how you can select the results to "Print to Printer" and to "Print to File" and have a full .txt version of the results for easy uploading to a web site, or you can save them as .htm also. (I prefer the .txt and save them upload them as a "preformatted" text)

I like one of the features J-Lap has, if you decide to run a longer or shorter race...and you make the decision during the race, you just click on the count down and add a minute or subtract a minute.

I find the AUTOMATIC features annoying in both of these programs. I would ALWAYS rather hear an announcer than a computer telling me whose where. (I do like the auto voice feature on J-Lap for Practice laps however....except on a short track you get about a dozen laps ahead of the computer voice)

B & B up in Northern Central Wisconsin. Having problems with occasional noise and misses laps. Been running a ground wire from battery to chasiss and seems to help my car. Static problem? Being an old building, could be an electrical problem too. But, it's better than counting by hand!

Spoiler, We're all using Personals. It calls for the loop to be 12-14 inches apart. We've tried a few different loops but nothing seems to help. :(

now I'm not bashing autoscore or anything like that...but mine was doing the same thing your describing and I noticed a dramatic delay in the hit counting sound the beeps when the cars crossed the loop... My thought was this it was the laptop I was using..and when it went to the outdoor track this summer..when it came back this year the the track owner told me he was missing laps also..he said when he stopped using the mouse it resolved the problem....but that says to me there was a conflict in the computer...either software or computer hardware it was a ps2 mouse and the laptop has a built in mouse also he resorted back to the laptops mouse...I don't believe it is your AMB equipment it is computer or software related i would dare to say...when I went to RC Scoring Pro and a brand new pc based computer ...I haven't had a problem since...see you also have another outside element that I don't have ..that being personals...I run house transponders...if you know for sure it's not the drivers transponders that's fine but if not make sure Tech checks there mounting and operation thru checks...I hope this helps....

Andy,

Does your track run a Bridge or a onground loop?

All of the racing I put on is done on a portable basis, so I usually duct tape a wire to the ground for our loop. Generally I space the wire between 10 - 12 inches apart max. (I also DON'T use the AMB Loop Wire, I just use the thinnest speaker wire available on a 100 ft. roll. the 2 wire kind) I don't add a resistor inline either, just the wire hooked to the AMB Coax cable (I do use the Yellow AMB Coax w/ the resistor and 2 leads on it. I just put alligator clips on the ends of the leads to hook to the speaker wire.)

We use both Personal and House transponders w/ the AMBrc system, generally the only concerns we've had w/ scoring is if a guy mounts his transponder too high or close to a motor, or if he plus his personal in backwards.

Make sure the minimum lap is set low enough in the program however.

RPM,

My windows autoscore pro only cost me about 480 bucks...but it was because I had the Autoscore Pro dos program, so I was charged for a upgrade.

I was looking into RCScoring Pro at the time, because I wanted a program that would actually do 20 car mains. Doug was going to work on his program to do it, but had a few major races ahead of me, and Autoscore had theirs ready in time for my event...

Info from RCScoring Pro was great...seems like a very good guy to work with, but so has Bill Wishon from B&B Autoscore.

(I have used the Laps Free program too. No frills, but great for the price - FREE)

I just need a program to hold club racing for now...starting a new track.
This is just a fun hobby for me.

Would this Free laps work for club racing??

I used to be in the programing field and don't see how a program to run
a 20 car main race would cost $1100.00!
This seems crazy to me even though I could afford it.

Yes, Thats what we use it for- It doesn't do any type of practice timing however we use it for 11-13 car field with no glitches and it can run through the heats/mains pretty much by itself.
