Will automobile xmission oil work in a hydrostatic? Just rebuilt first Cub Cadet

tanny fluid will do in a pinch but you should use the recomended oil for this tranny some take 90 gear oil some take hydralic fluidand some take grease. what series of hydostatic you have there

Most of the newer Hydro units use a standard multi-viscosity motor oil (i.e. 20w50) it all depends on the particular hydro unit you have. The owners manual will generally provide that information and may be available at the Cub website.
If you know the brand and model of the Hydro unit such as Hydro-Gear, Peerless etc.. you can probably find that info at their site as well.

I have a lot of reference manuals, if you have the brand and model I may be able to find out for you.
