I recently came across a good deal (an MF2 Losi with Spectrum DSM tx/rx for $150.00 - excellent shape). I don't think he wanted to sell but his wife was in charge. Anyway it came with a Fantom Vortec 10t motor. He said the motor needed new brushes and gave me a set. He said I just swap them out. After reading on various sites most say you should put the motor on a lathe each time you change brushes. I do not have a lathe and neither does my local hobby shop. Can I just replace the brushes? Also this motor has the springs and brushes in a copper tube. Does anyone know how to replace this type of brush? I read an article by Hankster but the springs and brushes are different on this motor.

mdy120. With a 10 turn it needs the comm cut about every 2to3 runs. and is a good idea to install new brushes at that time as well.
If it was a stock motor you can get more life out of it without as much maintence.

if you have a local track in your area i would go and see if someone there would be willing to cut your com for a cup of joe or a few bucks to help you out...

Thanks for the replies. I think I will get the com cut on this motor and look into possibly buying the equipment to do it myself. In the meantime I have put a Venom 13t motor in the car for driving. It's still fast. The guys at the track said this car was beating the nitro Revo's on the oval track with the 10t motor I was asking about. Thanks again for all the info.
