View Full Version : Heroes - Anyone Else Watching?
Griffworks 11-21-2006, 06:43 PM Is anyone else here watching NBC's "Heroes" (http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/)? The Wikipedia Section For "Heroes" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_%28TV_Show%29).
I really enjoy this show and have caught every episode up to "Nothing To Hide". Wife is recording the episodes to DVR and send them to me Over Here. It's the first time I've been this excited about a Comic Book Related show or movie in a while. I enjoyed the X-Men movies, as well as almost all of the DC Comics and Marvel Comics adaptations of the last three or four decades - the last two Batman (from the 90's) movies and Superman III and IV excepted - but still haven't been quite as happy overall with a story and execution as I am with "Heroes".

Eric K 11-21-2006, 09:12 PM I've been enjoying it very much. good stories, good twists.
aurora fan 11-21-2006, 09:28 PM Heroes moves along at a good pace, and I never know what they plan next. Good show. Then again, I like Smallville too. On a semi-related topic, I don't think we've ever had so much Sci-fi related television progaming to choose from at the same time. Perhaps time to start a thread about Sci-fi on TV. Some of it is actually good! This might be the Golden Age of Sci-Fi!

Good idea!
Hey Mr. Hankster, how bout it?
Zorro 11-21-2006, 10:36 PM 70% of the threads on this board are about Sci-Fi on TV. I've caught a couple of episodes of Heroes. I like the Japanese guys and the blond woman.
El Gato 11-22-2006, 01:52 AM My clerk tells me it's an excellent show. I haven't found the time to watch it. Maybe I'll catch it in reruns.
Eric K 11-22-2006, 02:29 AM It also runs on Fridays on Sci-fi 7PM EST. Although it's a little late to get in on a serialized show. Make sure you catch it in re-runs. It treats comic type characters wtih a dose of respect.

I think it's one of the best paced shows out there - SciFi, Drama or comedy. And the character development has been great, too. We've got some folks who're pretty easy to read - like Hiro - and some that are pretty complicated and conflicted like Nathan Petrelli. Imagine if Nathan were to direct the energies he does towards his campaign towards being a superhero. He'd prolly become their defacto leader.
Then again, I like Smallville too.
What's wrong w/Smallville? I don't watch it 'cause it started while I was stationed overseas and having missed the first season, I didn't feel inclined to start watching, tho have watched a few episodes. I like what I've seen, but have found I'm somewhat lost in regards to some of the backstory so haven't made the time to watch it. They've got the first four seasons on the LAN here, so I'm thinkin' I might start watching it before too much longer to sort of catch up on things.
On a semi-related topic, I don't think we've ever had so much Sci-fi related television progaming to choose from at the same time.
So Say We All!
Some of the best, IMNSHO, is on SFC, too: "Battlestar Galactica", "EUReKA", "Stargate:SG-1" and "Stargate:Atlantis". For those who've not seen "EUReKA", you should try and catch it on SFC when they do the reruns. I imagine they'll be doing that at least a couple times between now and when the second seasons starts this summer.
Perhaps time to start a thread about Sci-fi on TV.
Do you mean a new forum or new thread?
Some of it is actually good! This might be the Golden Age of Sci-Fi!
And again: So Say We All!
John P 11-23-2006, 10:38 AM What's wrong w/Smallville?
Speaking as a fan of the show from the beginning, I think the general feeling is that it's been dragging terribly for the last couple of years, and fans are sick of the lack of progress. Lex still isn't an evil mastermind, Lana is still around creating teen angst. Clark is still mooning over her. Every DC character and his uncle has shown up in either Metropolis or Smallville, usually in a form drastically warped from their comic selves, whether they belong there or not. Clark still can't fly (and what a lame excuse we were given!), everyone at the Daily Planet has met Clark without glasses....
Hit the general scifi section at TrekBBS and you'll see a general impatience with the series.
Griffworks 11-23-2006, 01:38 PM Ah, OK. I seem to remember some of that talk here or over at Starship Modeler now that you mention it.
So, are you watching Heroes, John?
aurora fan 11-23-2006, 05:53 PM Yea, I cant stop watching Smallville because from the begining, it has always shown nuggets of genius. You just have to sift thru sooo much to find it. Agreed! Great show!
John P 11-23-2006, 06:40 PM Yep, I'm watching Heroes and loving it!
And I catch Smallville when I remember to, but it's drifted off my radar. Last week looked like they've got half the JLA showing up from Green Arrow to Martian Manhunter, but Clark still can't fly and still doesn't have a costume.

woof359 11-24-2006, 01:53 PM i used to watch it, really liked it but there draging it out a bit to slow. Like jericho the pace is becoming so slow im beginingggggggg to lose intrest.
same with the new BSG. i need a little action.
Old_McDonald 11-24-2006, 04:08 PM Hey guys,
I watched a couple of episodes and, frankly, it reminds me too much of the Xmen and similar shows. I did just finish watching the Eureka marathon yesterday and it's a much more interesting show for me. More intellectual with less screaming, punching, etc. It's more Dr. Who like with real puzzles and clues. Gotta love the Sheriff who is the most ignorant person in Eureka but seems to be able to solve or get solutions to all of the bloopers those genuis scientist produce. Also, S.A.R.A.H., who runs the Sheriff's house is a hoot.
aurora fan 11-24-2006, 08:37 PM I notice several of the shows I want to like seem too draaag it on a little. I wonder if its an influence from "Lost". I hope it changes. Only so much patience! I think that was the death of "Invasion" Nothing ever seemed to happen! And I miss "Surface" That was a cool idea for a show!
And "Smallville"... Ughhh! 6 years and the boy can't fly!! They got events so out of order its frustrating, but still, I watch!
I need to find time for Eureka, it seems. Sometimes, with so many choices, a few slip by me.
John P 11-25-2006, 09:45 AM And "Smallville"... Ughhh! 6 years and the boy can't fly!!
The "boy" is two years older than the guy who played SuperMAN in the new movie! He'll be 30 in April!
terryr 11-25-2006, 08:11 PM Ahha. A hollywood teenager.
seaQuest 11-27-2006, 05:48 PM Kinda like Patrick Swayze playing a teenager well into his thirties.
<cough> Red Dawn <cough>
Griffworks 11-27-2006, 07:33 PM Actually, Swayze's character wasn't supposed to be a teenager in Red Dawn. He was several years graduated, per dialogue in the movie. I don't think an age difference was ever given, but don't figure him for having meant to be older than his early-to-mid 20's.
'Sides, it wouldn't be the first time that someone played a teenager who was in their late 20's or early 30's.
phrankenstign 11-27-2006, 09:55 PM Wasn't Fonzie pushing 40?!!
Zorro 11-27-2006, 10:16 PM If I'm doing my math right, Winkler was 39 during the last season of Happy Days.
And Donna Douglas was 38 and Max Baer Jr. was 34 during the last season of The Beverly Hillbillies.
PhilipMarlowe 11-27-2006, 10:54 PM Don't forget Hoffman was thirty when The Graduate was filmed.
John P 11-27-2006, 11:36 PM Anybody else old enough to have watched "Fame" in the 80s? Some of the high school kids in that show hit 30 during the series. I remember a great line when a teacher referred to Nia Peeples' character as "no ordinary 16-year-old." My wife and I said "Yeah! She's 26!"
A Taylor 11-28-2006, 01:15 PM Ralph Macchio was 30 when he played Johnny in The Outsiders.
Griffworks 11-28-2006, 06:44 PM OK, back to the original subject at hand.
Just watched "Seven Minutes To Midnight" (the COMM Nazis have loaded the episodes to the LAN!). Really chilling scene where Charlie is in the back room opening the can of mixed fruit w/the industrial can opener, peeling back the top - and then we see the blood start trickling down her face telling us that Sylar was there taking her brain....
Interesting comment from Mr. Bennet about his motivation. His interesting discussion about how they came to "adopt" Claire after apparently accidentally killing - or somehow being involved - in her mothers death was quite revealing. He really does seem to be a good guy, tho has somewhat looser morales than your normal hero in regards to getting the job done. Still, glad my theory on him was right and he's not evil, just one of those "Rough Men" that George Orwell talks about.
I thought the picture in the diner that first had Charlie over a birthday cake by herself, then later had Hiro in it was a nice touch, too.
nx-o1troubles 11-29-2006, 05:06 PM I was watching it, but I had to miss a couple of episodes. I think the story is moving way too slow. Very little development. So many characters to watch in each episode that the story doesnt get very far.
Anyone watch Kyle XY and know when season two starts?
Griffworks 11-29-2006, 05:17 PM You can catch the episodes off the NBC.com site or off of the SciFi Channel when they run the episodes on Friday evening before BSG.
As to the pacing, it's only been a couple of days in the show, thus far. Plus, it's a fairly complicated plot. I don't think it's too slow at all. I also don't feel that it's nearly as frustrating as something like "Lost" where they give more questions than answers each and every week.
