There have been many films about Jack the Ripper which incorporated details that may not be accurate. Here is a link to a very reputable report that has an interesting take on the Ripper, who he may have been, the street he lived on - and what he looked like:

If anyone sees this man walking around the 19th century please call police, or Victorian Ages Most Wanted. Telegraph operators are standing by.

I don't think we're any closer to solving this than they were 118 years ago. Pat Cornwell's excellent book makes a strong case toward artist Walter Sickert being the ripper, but her case all hinges on Sickert being the author of several (or more) of the infamous Ripper letters. Many experts agree that most (or all) of the letters are hoaxes. So all she can really prove is that Sickert wrote a few hoax letters like many Londoners of the time.

It's still a fascinating mystery and I have hopes that some day a new clue will come out with definitive proof.

Anyone see "From Hell" with Johnny Depp? Decent Ripper film and fairly accurate about the killings. Of course the ID of the killer is from a fairly far-out conspiracy theory, but it's entertaining.

From Hell wasn't bad at all.

"Muder by decree" was also a great movie - Christopher plummer as Sherlock Holmes investigating the ripper murders. It used the same theory as "From Hell" for the resolution.

Yeah John, "From Hell" is, in many ways, a remake of the Holmes film. I have a friend who is a Ripper enthusiast and he says that "From Hell" is to the Ripper case as "JFK" is to the Kennedy assination. Both outlandish theories that still make entertaining films.

I hafta agree with 'Ripperologist' Donald Rumbelow when he says we'll most likely not learn the Ripper's true identity until the day of judgment.

The theorists always choose someone famous, don't they? It was probably some shmoe who just died anonomously.

That's exactly the hypothesis of the article I referenced - an otherwise unknown individual and not a person who was a known celebrity of the day.
