View Full Version : were have they gone
B-man777 11-21-2006, 03:01 PM hey all:can someone please tell me what ever happened to the following companies cam motors, pti and new wave batteries,wimpy/gonzo and woods racing?these may be old school companies, but they were very popular back in the day when r/c oval racing ruled.
davepull 11-21-2006, 03:11 PM New wave cells is still around. Chris Marcy from rc madness in enfield ct now runs the company www.rcmadness.com for contact info.
rccarpy 11-21-2006, 03:48 PM I know Tate from Cam motors closed up shop about 8-9 years ago, after selling to PTI which owned Hyperdrive at that time. Pti went on to sell Hyperdrive to Ronnie Vines (former BSR owner) which went on to sell Hyperdrive again to its curren t owners Joe and Barry Hill. PTI sold off all its r/c equipment. And of course BSR is now owened by Oval guru John Foiester.
SHAKY DAVE 11-21-2006, 04:14 PM Just to add a few,B&R Motor works(don't know where Randy Moller went.Arts making furniture?don't know where Barry Hedrick went),Twister,Composite Craft,Vicfor(is Art Carbonell still alive?),Stealth batterys(who knows what Derrick Povah is doing now?),Team Smooth,CKW tires(Kevin Winens died)Cheetah(don't know what happened to Carlos Turano)Dans rc stuff(Moynahan still alive?)We might have to add Associated to the list.Seems their having a clearance sale & moving.I believe their trying to do away with their oval cars. Not able to get some parts, like rear axles.
davepull 11-21-2006, 04:18 PM FYI IRS makes the rear axles for associated
hobbyten 11-21-2006, 04:28 PM Wood Racing Has Gone Out Of Business. I Do Know That He Has Alot Of Parts But Ed No Longer Races Rc Or Goes To Rc Events. What A Shame That A Co. Like This Is No Longer Able To Make It. They Have Had Some Of The Top Oval Cars Ever Made.
SHAKY DAVE 11-21-2006, 04:42 PM FYI IRS makes the rear axles for associated
10-4.Just stating a fact.I like Associateds rear axles for my drome cars.I dont run associated cars & i've used IRS axles for years,
Kenwood 11-21-2006, 04:43 PM What about Technacraft(titanuim and magnesium parts), and redline motors.. Just 2 others that popped into my head..
davepull 11-21-2006, 04:46 PM what about Mighty Motors
mhawk11 11-21-2006, 04:54 PM what about TRINITY's oval program...?
they used to be a contender.
You missed Chris Smith owning Hyperdrive between PTI and Ronnie, and does Mike Wood still work for Trinity? How about EastCoast motors[David Timmerman] i believe he works for Lowes. And Tom Crowe?
huffrcman 11-21-2006, 05:06 PM Lee Morrison still owns Gonzo/Wimpy.He is more into 1/8 scale offroad now.
Z-Main Loser 11-21-2006, 05:07 PM Lee Morrison that "Wimpy" guy is headed to Horizon Hobby.
THE DARKSIDE 11-21-2006, 05:11 PM The owner of Team Smooth, Mike McBride I believe, is still around. He's a frequent posted on Rctech.net
ovalrc 11-21-2006, 06:18 PM Mighty motors closed up shop and sold off all his winding equipment.
Echeconnee 11-21-2006, 06:35 PM I ran a big PTI hood sticker on my Charger r/t this past weekend, ah the good ole days!hey all:can someone please tell me what ever happened to the following companies cam motors, pti and new wave batteries,wimpy/gonzo and woods racing?these may be old school companies, but they were very popular back in the day when r/c oval racing ruled.
hobbyten 11-21-2006, 07:19 PM You missed Chris Smith owning Hyperdrive between PTI and Ronnie, and does Mike Wood still work for Trinity? How about EastCoast motors[David Timmerman] i believe he works for Lowes. And Tom Crowe?
YES MIKE WOOD DOES WORK FOR TRINITY BUT HE WAS NOT THE LAST OWNER OF WOOD RACING ED WASSERMAN BOUGHT THE RITES TO WOOD RACING FROM MIKE JR AND SR
Z-Main Loser 11-21-2006, 07:24 PM I thought Blackstock bought Woods or what was his role in the last days?
davepull 11-21-2006, 07:28 PM what about TRINITY's oval program...?
they used to be a contender.
they still are there just called custom works now. pretty much that last blue thing that trinity made killed there oval program.
Jim Dieter now works for custom works/ truespeed
Arnie Fie works for custom works
Phil Marabella runs for custom works
Jason Lambert was last seen running a darkside motorshorts car and running his mouth as per the lamballs book of rc racing.
YES MIKE WOOD DOES WORK FOR TRINITY
Mike hasn't worked for Trinity for several months, he moved on to a better paying job with a future.
Art Carbonell of Team Serpent is no doubt still playing with these toys, but there is nothing to be found about Serpent cars. I would imagine that the 1/10th and 1/18th RTR's may have been the demise of this company.
Trinity's "oval program" is the Snowbirds.
Anchor2 11-21-2006, 08:30 PM A&D Batteries (Jim Peirsol) ran for them at one point, Quarter Flash motors, and Bruce from Maxcell Batteries. Lazer Lite, Team Cobra, and Speed Craft to name a few 10th scale cars, from the Wakefield MA oval track.
Anchor

Dave, WHEN did that happen? I think about him all the time...ran his tires for years~ No WAY~
Randy Moeller - Last I knew was in IOWA or IDAHO (they are both the same place aren't they?)
Derek Povah (STEALTH BATTERIES) I saw at a dirt oval race in Camarillo running a CW Wedge bodied car late last year or early this year
Andy Jacobsen - (Andy's R/C Bodies) Managing I believe it was Pegasus Hobbies in Southern Cal.
Ira Dahm - (Dahm's Racing Bodies) retired & sold company to Van's Invent
Bud Bartos - (Bud's Racing Products) - shriveled up and become 1/18th scale LOLOL
Big Jim Greenemeyer - (Big Jim's Motors) - R.I.P.

However, that opens the doors for New Companies, New Legacies, New KINGS of the R/C World.
Who's come on strong the last few years in OVAL mfg. names?
PRS Gears
Murdock R/C - Springs, bodies, parts...You name it
Maverick Oval Chassis - Swift MFG and JPH Hobbies
