Well I just saw Space Seed, I'm disappointed that they didn't bother with a tractor beam, but I did like the shots of the Botany Bay.

Speaking of the Botany Bay, I wonder if they going to use the same footage of the ship in the Ultimate Computer when it gets remastered.

Thanks for the caps! Great shots!

This episode really showed some great improvements over the original. The nacelle effect on the 1701 is nearly accurate as well.

That is the main thing that's been bugging me. Big improvement.

My little nitpick:

The CGI version looks like it has recessed panels on the front of the cargo pods.

It would make sense to use a totally different design.

I like the 3D drifting effect.

My one nitpick is why would the Botany Bay start to tumble once the tractor beam is cut off? It's in vacuum so it should just keep going as is unless affected by some other force.

Maybe they gave it a little kick!

I believe that Okuda hinted at a new design for the Woden in UC...we've already seen a totally new Gorn ship, so it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I think I got it... it should just drift straight if the tractor beam stopped pulling on each surface of the ship that the beam hit simultaniously. But if there was one part of the ship that was (even for a second) still attached to the beam while another part was released, it could start the tumble.

I forgot where but, I read some place that they are gonna use a different ship.

Since the shots have been getting better I decided to start posting some of the starship shots on my yahoo group for reference

That way I can post multiple clips from a flyby ect... that I can't here because of space.

From the Q&A at startrek.com:
Will you be doing new models for cases where they simply re-used models, such as the Botany Bay from "Space Seed" being re-used as the Woden in "The Ultimate Computer"?
Where we can without affecting story or dialogue, we'll be generating new models.

I hope they take the opportunity to show different versions of the Constitution class starships for the opponents in the war game. It's be neat to see a first pilot version, a second pilot version, a 3 foot model version (different contours here and there), and perhaps have the Lexington be a version with contours more in line with the movie refit though maintaining the production style nacelles, impulse engine and other smaller details.

I really liked the fact that they made the ISS Enterprise a second pilot version so that it would be distinguishable somewhat from the regular 1701.

Which also stayed consistent with the way "Mirror, Mirror" was originally presented. ;)

Have there been any shots where different space ships meet, but are on totally different horizontal planes that are askew from one another? Example: Maybe with one ship viewing the other as being nearly upside-down at the 10:30 position?

It happened in STVI but the Klingon vessel quickly "corrected."

I've always thought it would be neat to see ships pointed towards a planet and flying sideways in orbit.

It was even textured differently. Somehow felt slightly more metalic.

It was nice that they did that, though I don't care for the bigger bridge and deflector dish from the 2nd Pilot.

Good point! I didn't notice that. The original 2nd pilot version did have different surface detailing.

I don't care for the 2nd pilot version that much either but it was a nice touch and the distinguishing between ships of the same class is always helpful for dramatic effects and clarification of the action.

And thank god. They're supposed to be updating the effects, not inserting inside jokes for the fanbois.

You're taking spelling lessons from Avril Lavigne?

ADDENDUM: I didn't realize that's a common "hip" spelling of "fanboy" these days. Well, I guess I'm just an alta kocker.
