View Full Version : Need info: on two Fords Galaxie & Ford GT
allthingsrdline 11-11-2006, 03:09 PM I think it's a '62 right? If so, I normally see two-tone versions of this Galaxie. All tan is uncommon? Idea of value of each? Also this blue Ford GT, I have never seen this color before. Anyway, sweet pair of Fords!

i have this one with a white stripe. The color in my pics isn't great, but it's a darker blue than the one in the pics above. The Bob Beers reference book says that the one with the black stripe is "medium blue" and the one with the white stripe is just "blue".
as far as the Galaxie, that's a Vibrator Galaxie. Aurora made Vibes till 1962. Again according to the reference book, the tan ones came with either a matching tan top or a black top, and the matching one is more desirable/rare from a collector's standpoint. The way the book describes it, yellow and red ones always had a matching top, white ones always had a black top, but tan ones came both ways. They also made a Galaxie police car, which came in red, yellow, tan, or white, and all were available with either black or white roof with a red roof light.
Then there were the Thunderjet '63 Galaxies, which came in lots more colors and combinations...

boss9 11-11-2006, 09:37 PM Hello Allthings-
I have them as well, and it has been pointed out that the Galaxie is a Vibe', but what wasn't mentioned is it can't be used on a regular slot track, as they need a different type of power supply and voltage.
It can be mounted on a Thunderjet chass'--but with much care!!
I don't think the chass' will "bottom out' on the T-jet, so it's advised to leave the screws a bit loose.
Also, tan colour is one of the most brittle bodies molded, so absolutely no pressure must be applied when removing and installing the post screws.
These colour bodies are prone to shattering, so take care when running the little bugger!
On the Ford GT40:
I believe this is one of the later releases of the final run of these cars by Aurora.
The reason being is it lacks the headlight and other trim prevalant on the earlier model.
My wife gave the GT for Xmas one year, some time ago-
I recall she'd bought it new from Bobby's Hobby Lobby in Mich.
Cheers..

SplitPoster 11-12-2006, 04:08 PM On the track and power supply: Aurora made the vibrator chassis to run on AC current, not DC. The early manuals list a 22v (A1) power supply, though the 4 lane set I have came with a 24v (A1-B). The track is identical/interchangeable. My vibe cars will run on T jet DC, not very well, but I understand AC will burn a Tjet out. If you are just selling these cars this probably isn't important to you.
From my un-expert observations, 62 Galaxie Hardtops bring less than the 5 other vibe Fords, but more than the most common vibes - the Mercedes or XK 140 convertibles. Not mint, so, $50 range sound right? To me tan isn't a plus.
could the Ford GT be a "get one free" special body, as done with Tuff Ones?
Not as good looking as the Gulf striped version. Less than the Galaxie
Then again, I have bid low not expecting to win and did, and vice versa... so you take your chances.
videojimmy 11-13-2006, 10:18 AM I have trhe blue GT, I'm pretty sure it was one of the Tuff Ones releases.. at least the one I bought had a tuff ones chassis. Always liked the GT's, wish they made them for Magna Traction
the tan 62 ford was a regular color but the ford gt had regular size wheels not the tuff ones type chassies i think some had white stripes
The car pictured is indeed correct (or at least could be) as shipped from Aurora. This is a second generation Tuff-Ones Ford GT 40, they also came in Red w/ a black stripe. Value MIB is around US$45 ~ 50 unless you also have the label, but it has been our experience that most second generation Tuff-Ones cars came with the generic "no specific car listed" label which ads only a little value.
Hope this helps,
