And just yesterday I bought a DVD of his Jekyll/Hyde, some of his best work.

Aw, man! Odd you should mention it. I just watched The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde last weekend. Still my favorite version of the story. Palance was utterly unique. His odd physicality and weird vocal cadence made for some singular and memorable performances in a number of classic movies. Jack prevailed for a lot of years. Sorry to see him go.

His Dracula was very good. He was another of the great old actors, now gone. Stuck with Tom Cruise again.

He had a pretty good run, sad to see him go. He was a big part of the reason so many people loved Shane.

I liked his Jekyll / Hyde the best as well. He had many good performances over the decades.

How old was he?

I thought that he was great in City Slickers as Curly.

Man... That's just sad. One of my favorites...

You'd never think someone could host a show on Ripley's Believe it or Not and load so many innocuous stories with that undercurrent of sadism he seemed to relish...like when he drove the straw thru a potato, if you recall that one...it was all an act but it worked.

I like his characterization of Dracula but the production was largely crap imo...had they decked him out as Stoker did (old man, long white mustache all in black), instead of a brown suit, it might have been different. imo

Jekyll is another story.

Ed Bradley of 60 minutes also died, at 65 of leukemia.

I guess the catagory this time is elder statesmen.

He was also a jazz fan and host of Jazz at Lincoln Center:

Mr. Palance was a native of North East PA, and was very popular locally. He had a farm there next to his brother's property and often visited there to hunt, paint, and just get away - coincidentally there was just a huge auction on his farm selling many items in his collection.

RIP
