I went to TRU yesterday to see what's new and pick up a few cars, when I come around the corner and there's this guy with a handfull of cars (no issues with that of course) but the cars he left on the peg, he's destroying!

He folded the cards of the other cars. When he saw me coming over he took his cars and left, but there was a nice Zinger Challenger I would have bought and a Christmas Corvette that were literally bent in half! I still bought a Cuda with the damaged card and liked it enough that I wanted to add it to my loose collection but still!

Anyone else ever see anything like that??

Does he think he's creating a market or higher demand for the cars he intends to scalp? What a chump.

I have bought toys on damaged, creased or otherwise shabby cards before. I don't think it's such a big deal. My attitude is my rebellion  against the type of nonsense that you describe !

That's pretty bad, what a total loser!

I went to tru last week, had the day off work, got there at about 10:10, they opened at 10, well needless to say I was 10 minutes late. I round the corner, and there he is, Mr. Scalper. Looked like the rack had been freshly stocked with JLs, now they were mostly strewn about, he tried very hard to hide the cars he had in his huge box, and without exagerating he had to have no less than 20 cars. I politely told him I only collected the BWF series and asked him if he would mind if I could have just one of the same three BWF cars he had on the top of his box, he said NO I need all these, with a very snotty attitude, as I started to look through the pegs for anything he might have missed, he told me I needed to wait until he was finished. I am honestly so sick of these guys.

Wait amin...does he OWN the store....and I'm pretty sure there was more than 1 peg, I would have started looking at the ones he wasnt just to piss him off. I havent run into that yet....just guys who know what you are there for and then walk around the aisles untill you are done. If I ever met a guy like that...talk about a major cleanup in the diecast aisle

Thats ignorance at its best for ya. Its just sick. He is not a collector he is a, well, I cant say it on here. For me personally, I dont get too worked up as I liberate 98% of my cars, but It bothers me when I see something like that because I know that there are a lot of collectors that like to keep all their cars carded. FOr this reason, If I see something I like, I will usually buy the most beat up card on the pegs of the car I want and leave the best cards for the people that like to keep them carded.

I run around some of the same areas as you, if your location is correct. And I agree, they are everywhere.

I haven't been to Toy Club in La Puente in ages; do you ever head over there?

There always are the strange ones. I Think I would have told an employee about him damaging the cards.

Yeah, this guy was the worst I have ever run in to anywhere. Before I had my kids he would have been picking up his teeth and putting them in the box with all his JLs. Now I have to be a mature adult, lol.

It's people like this guy that made me sell out the first time ( Hot Wheels back then). Yep...took the family to Disney World! The "collectors" took away the fun for me!

I don't see it as much in JL, but I know they are there, I just don't stop by early when I know they are there. Also...OLD's take care of this to a certian degree. But I do love the thrill of a hunt...just not when the waters is full of sharks like this guy.

However, I am a pretty big guy....I would have looked right along with him! All the while speaking kindly. After all, I have no reason to start a fight, ( hey, it's a toy car) but I have no reason to be scared off either!

I ignore jerkoffs like that. I dare them to even touch me while I'm checking out the pegs. It's like, who the heck are they anyway? Its bad enough having to smell their bad breath being that close to them but I have had a guy once asking me to go look at the other side of the pegs. I politely said, "make me!"

It's stories like this that almost make me embarassed to be an adult collecting cars... I have never had anything like this happen and hopefully I never do. Your right it does give the adult collectors a bad name.

Worst thing I ever had happen to me while browsing through the pegs was a woman muttered under her breath "Grown men playing with toy cars, they need to get a life." I smiled and continued to shop. (I must have picked up the car she wanted. :p )

half a bubble off plumb.

heeheehee! That's a good one I never heard before.

Closest I had was a guy try and lean me outa the way.
I've tried bein polite and he's at this one store every day(according to clerks) but after he was overheard bragging about getting over 50 of a recently released item that he sold on ebay for $100 profit on each one, I decided to start accidently helping out a local tire company.

worst i've had is someone walk over to the peghs I was screening through, look at them for 5 seconds and say "Nope, nothing new" and walk all.

I was all like "Huh?"

Agreed, they make me understand why so many store employees hate collectors. The worst was a guy who went into the back room unoticed and helped himself. The store manager told me she banned him from the store, the employees all kept their purses back there!

I am a pretty big guy....I would have looked right along with him! All the while speaking kindly. After all, I have no reason to start a fight, ( hey, it's a toy car) but I have no reason to be scared off either!

When someone is at the pegs before me, I always wait until their done before I take a look, but with this kind of guy, I'd make it a point to start checking every peg right next to his hand just to make a statement. What's he gonna do? As some of you may know from some of my past posts, I don't tolerate idiots, clowns or morons very well. Never have, never will.

If I saw where someone had blatantly damged blister cards and I knew who it was, I would beat them to the Customer Svc area and inform the Rep that this individual had damaged store merchandise and left it on the pegs. I would bet that he would have to buy all the damaged cards on the spot- at least that is what I would do if I were the Manager! Plus that may also be a crime in that he damaged someone elses property which could be a police matter as well!
