View Full Version : windows password
KDracing 11-08-2006, 06:59 PM ok i brought my computer into a repair shop a few days ago, to fix my boot block issue. they fixed that problem, sort of, sometimes i still get the same message then i reboot and it works fine. i had a password set to the computer before i sent it in, i gave them the password as they asked and when i got it back they told me the password was "PASSWORD" as written on invoice. anyway, it doesn't work, i have typed it every way i could think of (caps lock/ lowercase, etc), and it still says, "did you forget you password?" in the annoying little bubble. i did a little research online and read about jumping the password by doing something on the motherboard? will this work, how do you do it?
os is windows xp home
RCMits 11-11-2006, 01:10 AM curiosity, did you try your old password? ;-) if not.. there is a boot disk i can i have you try that can change the Administrator hive password...
cwinters 11-14-2006, 07:31 PM First off, which password was set? The XP password or the BIOS password?

good questions, but " ---"did you forget you password?" in the annoying little bubble" ----, the bios usually doesn't give you a bubble for wrong password. ;-) and most users dont set BIOS passwords. ;-)
just my two cents.
KDracing 11-14-2006, 07:42 PM it was the xp password, thanks for the help but the guy never reset it i guess. it was my old password, should of been the first thing i tried
thanks for helping with common sense
Nighthawke 11-26-2006, 02:26 PM Ouch.. If the XP password was forgotten, then your systen would have to go into a tech for him to reset the password for a nominal fee.
RCMits 11-26-2006, 03:13 PM actually... sure, but i have ways (80%) of resetting the windows password hive ;-) if i was consulting i'd charge, but for a hobbytalk cousin. no charge ;P
Nighthawke 11-27-2006, 12:25 AM I got one that'll do 99.95% of the passwords too, but it's murder if you slip up. And it MIGHT wipe out your files if you told windows to encrypt them when you set your password. That's the .05% that would make it ugly. But it bats a thousand on all of the password cracking jobs that I've done.

Your post was awhile ago, but when the computer is booting up try pressing F5 and bring it up in safe mode ........ it will bypass the XP password, choose administrator from the user list, you can then go in and remove any and all windows passwords for the user / users in windows xp
